To think you can't just trundle along at any old speed you fancy...

I fully expect to get flamed for this because I know I'm a tad over the top about this but it's my pet hate so here goes.

If say be gentle but I know this is the wrong place for that Wink

I drive a lot. Every day I drive on a road that's technically a country road as there are fields either side but it's more than wide enough and not too windy. This road is followed by two straight roads. These are all national speed limit roads.

This is comfortably attainable with a few corners on the country road where 50 is a better speed. Obviously various weathers call for different speeds. I was behind a double decker bus doing 50 down there today.

The last few days I have been stuck behind people doing 35-40. Today the lady flashed at me when I finally get chance to overtake.

They way I see it is if you are driving so slow on the roads either
A) you are unaware of the speed limit/unable to follow basic road signs and therefore shouldn't be driving
B) do not feel comfortable driving at an appropriate limit for the road and therefore shouldn't be driving.

I know it's a limit not a target but you fail your driving test if you 'fail to progress' so they shouldn't be driving like this.

It's the principle that they don't care about anyone's time frame or how they affect other people. They just trundle along deciding what speed they want to go at and not giving a fuck.

We all have bad days where we mess up roundabouts and misjudge but Jesus Christ, if you can't drive at 60 in a straight line...

And BMWs bring driven by cunts is just some anti consumerist hype.

My parents both hate beemers for this very reason. Fools. My dad got in mine and instantly fell in love. Said he'd never drive one. The next time he got in he wanted to drive it. Even thought about buying one.

Audis are more popular than beemers now as a status car so they get the bad name.

That sounds about right Sparkling

dirkdiggler1 · 30/11/2014 12:01

I have no idea what a marque car is, nor a 155 limiter, or a mod

Many high performance German cars are electronically limited to 155mph and this can be removed fairly easily although many of the cars are barely capable of much more anyway. Mod is just short for modifications.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 12:02

Oh right 155mph, And mods like spoilers etc?

PanISAButterfly · 30/11/2014 12:05

Optional mods on a Beemer or Audi? That'll be indicators.

Kidding.....

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 12:05

I mean their safety rating. My e46 has a spoiler. Looks massively shit.

Yes, spoilers etc would be mods although I'm not really into cosmetic mods. If it doesn't make the car lighter/faster or improve handling or braking then it's not really for me. I'm very much a function over form kinda guy so will change things cosmetically for the sake of performance, think lightweight wheels and carbon fibre body panels for instance.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 12:11

Do you have a picture dirk? I'll show you mine if you show me yours...Wink

Lol, the last thing a 318i needs is more drag!

dirkdiggler1 · 30/11/2014 12:12

Not gonna out myself!

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 12:12

It's incredibly fast. I don't get overtaken by snails ever... Honest. Hmm

I haven't read through all the replies but I agree with you. I also live rurally and get fed up with people driving at 40 in a 60 limit where it's a straight road and good driving conditions. I want to get out and ask them what they think the speed limit is. I'm getting wound up just thinking about it.
Slightly OT but I also live near and drive through a forest, and throughout the summer months people who don't want to pay the parking charge for the car park clog up the road by parking on either side. There isn't really a verge so the road effectively becomes single track. Then they saunter down the road as though it's pedestrianised. Aargh.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 12:23

I am not a big fan of performance cars/spoilers/weird looking trim and wheels etc. The DSs are always 'look at that' when we are out and I just think boy racer. I just can't help it.
DH points cars out that are ££££s and they just look like cars to me. Same as classic cars. They look like old bangers.

I am on the whole unimpressed by anything on the road. Grin It is all wasted on me.

Belly chuckle :o

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 12:29

You're missing out sparkling. There's so much joy to be found in cars, driving a beautiful one, looking after it. Adding bits to it just for you.

I went to a car show in sept. 'Pistons and props' in sywell and they car had everyday cars that had been mod'd with such great care and attention (not to mention costs) and they were drag racing them quarter of a mile. They were faster than Ferraris and the sound and the smells were amazing.

I recommend you go to something like that. Just to open your mind.

No I hate chaved up shitters with loads of tat stuck to them. Usually all show and no go. Very difficult to work out what mine is, no badges, lightweight wheels and a subtle colour. I try to blend in as much as possible. Only someone who knows what they're looking at would work out that it's even an M3 let alone a hotter one... until the traffic lights go green that is.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 12:34

Mmm. Well I live with a bunch of car crazy males Tallulah. I have been exposed to The Haynes Motor Museum, Beaulieu (World of Top Gear was ok TBF), Motor Museum at Gaydon. Rows and rows of dead cars.

Then I had to go to the Motor Show, and the Classic Car show in Birmingham and it was all so boring.

I especially cringe at the shows where the owners sit at the back of their old banger rapidly appreciating classic with a thermos while people look round and then suck their teeth if anyone nearly touches it.

I have even been dragged to Stock Car racing and Silverstone. V loud and v yawn. Sad

Moniker1 · 30/11/2014 12:34

B do not feel comfortable driving at an appropriate limit for the road and therefore shouldn't be driving

So you are saying everyone should drive fast whether they are safe doing that or not.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 12:46

Sparkling, go to this show next September. Some are spectacularly boring but this will change all that Grin

Moniker, no you misunderstand. They should be so competent behind the wheel that they should feel safe at that speed.

Will have a look Tallulah the family will be Shock that I looked iy up. Grin

We are off to Mercedes Benz World next year for the DC to have a driving experience. Hoping for a nice cafe above all other things.

The only museum I refuse to go to again is the Tank Museum in Dorset, so not really cars.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 12:56
