To think you can't just trundle along at any old speed you fancy...

I fully expect to get flamed for this because I know I'm a tad over the top about this but it's my pet hate so here goes.

If say be gentle but I know this is the wrong place for that Wink

I drive a lot. Every day I drive on a road that's technically a country road as there are fields either side but it's more than wide enough and not too windy. This road is followed by two straight roads. These are all national speed limit roads.

This is comfortably attainable with a few corners on the country road where 50 is a better speed. Obviously various weathers call for different speeds. I was behind a double decker bus doing 50 down there today.

The last few days I have been stuck behind people doing 35-40. Today the lady flashed at me when I finally get chance to overtake.

They way I see it is if you are driving so slow on the roads either
A) you are unaware of the speed limit/unable to follow basic road signs and therefore shouldn't be driving
B) do not feel comfortable driving at an appropriate limit for the road and therefore shouldn't be driving.

I know it's a limit not a target but you fail your driving test if you 'fail to progress' so they shouldn't be driving like this.

It's the principle that they don't care about anyone's time frame or how they affect other people. They just trundle along deciding what speed they want to go at and not giving a fuck.

We all have bad days where we mess up roundabouts and misjudge but Jesus Christ, if you can't drive at 60 in a straight line...

Nope - don't drive any of them.

if a car was able to undertake you between lorries on a motorway why didn't you pull back in once you'd overtaken each lorry - although by your own admission it wasn't just one car and you were in the middle lane for 4 miles - why is that a stupid question exactly?

Backinthering · 30/11/2014 11:07

Formerbabe national speed limit on country roads is 60 not 70. It's only 70 on dual carriageways and motorways.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 11:08

Former babe, no one should be hitting 70mph on a country road. That's illegal.

I drive a BMW. It's well established I'm an aggressive cunt. Before that I had a Picasso, a focus, a ka and a punto... Car manufacturer means shit.

As one of the laid back drivers here I too fall outside the make of car norm.

I drive a 3 litre, 2 seater, BMW soft top.

I keep it and drive it as you, Tallulah, mockingly 'accuse' SirChenjin of driving - legally, considerately, properly!

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 11:31

No mocking no mama. I think sirchenjin sounds like my kind of driver. Grin

Nomama · 30/11/2014 11:33

Mmmmm! I'm obviously a tad touchy this morning... Smile

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 11:36

It's because you drive a BMW. Apparently we are all a bit antsy Wink

OMG call the police

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 11:41

Go on, dirk... What car?

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 11:45

70mph on a country road. More like call the undertaker.

dirkdiggler1 · 30/11/2014 11:46

BMW M3 with some mods and the 155 limiter removed.

PanISAButterfly · 30/11/2014 11:49

BMW, and other car makes, analysis re accidents - not the same as ansty obviously.

Notable all of the worst reported accidents rate are in the 'marquee' end of cars, excepting Volvos. The argument there I think being that because they are so 'safe' then it gives a casual sense of safety towards other road users.

Are Beemers the worst? No, but there is room for improvement

StripedOss · 30/11/2014 11:51

if you get undertaken on a motorway, perhaps you should consider the fact you're in the wrong lane? speed limit or not, its illegal to lane hog, and if there is room to undertake you, then you should have moved into that space they used to undertake.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 30/11/2014 11:51

I don't think top marques are renowned for their safety are they?

OP posts:
PanISAButterfly · 30/11/2014 11:55

You mean the drivers of marque cars aren't renowned for their safety?

StripedOss · 30/11/2014 11:56

my dad drove BMW's for years, even had a private plate.. and he never had an accident.

its not the car, its the driver thats the problem.

SirChenjin · 30/11/2014 11:56

I drive a Citroen C4 Picasso Grin

26 years of a clean licence, many thousands of miles driven each year and no accidents (caused by me). I am a bloody good driver, even though I do drive a Citroen.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 11:56

I have no idea what a marque car is, nor a 155 limiter, or a mod. Grin I need to watch more Jeremy Clarkson. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 11:57

Ooh I do know what a Picasso is though. Smile

SirChenjin · 30/11/2014 11:57

It's a 62 plate incidentally. No idea what year that is. It's got 3 full seats in the back for the mahoosive DCs that I have bred and a big boot.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2014 11:58

That would be September 2012 Sir.
