To never buy women's socks for myself ever again?

PacificDogwood · 21/11/2014 16:26

I just bought these for myself - I'm sitting here with the blue pair on Grin

Bright colours - all the casual men's socks have colours that I like (I had sock envy when I last bought socks for DS1…)

Women's sock are all either a. black (fair enough - one needs black socks), b. Christmassy (again, fair enough, not my cup of tea, but I accept they have a market, or c. ALL various shades of pink/purple/mauve/grey/cream/rose/lilac/you get the picture.

I don't object in the least to these shades (like the Christmas socks, not my cup of tea, but great to be able to get those colours if you like them), what I object to is the lack of choice!!

Really riles me.
Yes, First World problem - I do have insight in to what I am raging against Grin

they never fit properly either.

I got some Muppets men's socks in Asda. they're my favourite socks Grin

BabCNesbitt · 21/11/2014 16:31

What size are you, Pacific? I'm a 4 - think they might be a bit big for me Sad

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 21/11/2014 16:31

I only buy men's socks too - I have size 7 feet... Women's socks are "one size does not fit all" and they usually shrink in the tumble drier. men's socks rule!

BabCNesbitt · 21/11/2014 16:32

(Sorry, didn't mean to suggest you had massive flippers!Grin)

PacificDogwood · 21/11/2014 16:33

I'm a 5.5 - the smallest men's size is 6 to ?9, so they are loose at the mo, but not overtly too big.
One round in the washing machine will sort them Grin

I'm wearing the green ones tomorrow

I pretty much only buy men's socks these day. So much more comfy.

I have recently converted to men's socks. Size 8 feet- women's socks just don't fit.

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 21/11/2014 16:35

(are you a hobbit?)

BikeRunSki · 21/11/2014 16:36

I have size 8.5 feet and have been wearing men's socks all my adult life. M&S are the best for colour and longevity.

WorraLiberty · 21/11/2014 16:36

I have size 3 feet

I'm wearing my 12yr old DS's hand-me-ups, now that he's a size 8.

BabCNesbitt · 21/11/2014 16:37

I did actually have sock envy when my brother was staying with us for a fortnight. He had days of the week socks! Envy

BikeRunSki · 21/11/2014 16:37

Gap aRen't bad either.

HugeFurryKnittingBalls · 21/11/2014 16:37

It's a bugbear of mine that men's clothes are generally cheaper than women's. It costs more than twice as much to get a haircut too. We get paid less and are employed in the vast majority of the lower paying professions and yet we're charged more for just about anything that can be gender based. Fuckers!

Pointlessfan · 21/11/2014 16:38

I often wear men's socks, they are warmer. I like stripy socks and it is easier to find men's than women's.

CyclopsBee · 21/11/2014 16:38

I bought some mens fluffy soft socks (im a 7) theyre fab and lovely to put on in the evening, all cosy
and Doesn't matter if they shrink a bit.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 21/11/2014 16:40

I'm a 8, most of the time I buy men's socks. I also have muppet socks from asdaGrin

WomanScorned · 21/11/2014 16:40

BabC, I'm a similar size, and it only occured to me very recently, to buy mine from the children's section! 10 pairs for a fiver. Bargain :)

choccyp1g · 21/11/2014 16:42

I don't see why there are separate men's and women's socks. A range of plain and coloured in various sizes would do the trick. Don't tell DS but he has been wearing plain black "women's" socks for a few years, as they come in size 5-8 which is just right, whereas "boy's" and "men's" have a gap at around his size.

Shockers · 21/11/2014 16:43

YABU.

Says the lady in the lovely soft, stripy Seasalt socks Grin.

PacificDogwood · 21/11/2014 16:43

KnittingBalls, too right Angry

Alas, am not a hobbit although DH may have alleged as much from time to time. He's not one to talk…

It was buying socks for DSs1 and 2 who are now a size 5 and 6 that put me on to adult men's socks.

I am not sure that there is a massive market for pink men's sock, and there are at least some.
So why on earth is the choice of colours/designs not more diverse for women??

OP posts:
choccyp1g · 21/11/2014 16:43

I wear men's because you can get those sets that look plain black but have secret match up patterns on the toes and heels.

PacificDogwood · 21/11/2014 16:44

Yes, surely socks are the perfect unisex item?
