To never buy women's socks for myself ever again?

PacificDogwood · 21/11/2014 16:26

I just bought these for myself - I'm sitting here with the blue pair on Grin

Bright colours - all the casual men's socks have colours that I like (I had sock envy when I last bought socks for DS1…)

Women's sock are all either a. black (fair enough - one needs black socks), b. Christmassy (again, fair enough, not my cup of tea, but I accept they have a market, or c. ALL various shades of pink/purple/mauve/grey/cream/rose/lilac/you get the picture.

I don't object in the least to these shades (like the Christmas socks, not my cup of tea, but great to be able to get those colours if you like them), what I object to is the lack of choice!!

Really riles me.
Yes, First World problem - I do have insight in to what I am raging against Grin

TkMaxx sometimes have half-price Happy Socks. And don't stop at socks, try belts and hats, once again TkMaxx or H&M. Doubles your choice.

SistersOfPercy · 22/11/2014 16:35

I'm a size 7 and I buy a lot of kids socks (usually size 3-5). I find they always stretch up well but more importantly they have Spiderman and Star Wars on them Grin
Have you ever tried to find adult womens Star Wars socks?! There has been a shift lately towards mens socks having marvel characters on which pleases me though.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 22/11/2014 16:43

Men socks are warmer and thicker.

I buy men gloves as well as they are much thicker.

I get mine from sports direct as they do sport sock for women which comes in pink logo

RhinestoneCowgirl · 22/11/2014 16:48

I'm wearing hand-knitted socks today, so very comfy.

My feet are a large 7 and I tend to just nick DH's socks when I need them (tend to wear tights mostly).

Women's socks are always 4-7 and seem to be just that bit too small and end up sliding off and wrinkling up inside my shoes.

Those M&S ones are lovely colours.

HansieLove · 22/11/2014 17:23

So just ordered some! There is free shipping to U.S. (Thank you M&S) and 20% off too.
They are really pretty. I've never bought men's socks for myself and I've never seen pretty colors like that either. My education continues!

HappyAgainOneDay · 22/11/2014 17:43

I bought my sicks from Sainsbury's. Very comfortable and varying colours and patterns.

Bulbasaur · 22/11/2014 17:51

It costs more than twice as much to get a haircut too.

US is changing that now that stores figured out they can charge men twice as much too metro long hair styles are more popular. The places I go raised men's cuts up to women pricing.

OP, you're shopping the wrong place for socks. Amazon has all sorts of fun colorful socks in every color for women.

Jelliebabe2 · 22/11/2014 18:49

Nice! I wear men's socks cos dh is a Muppet and can't match socks or differentiate between ladies and gent's ones! So now we share! Grin

HansieLove · 23/11/2014 17:30

May I talk about another injustice? Men can buy dress shirts sized for their neck and sleeve length. Pants are sized for the waist and the length.

To the poster who said she wears men's shoes...do they give you more height for your toes? I bought a pair of women's shoes online. I wore them once, and they hurt the top of my toes, so I gave them to Goodwill. Someone got some quality burgundy sliders when shopping at Goodwill.

OwlCapone · 23/11/2014 17:33

I have some men's fleecy "lounge trousers". Not only are they long enough, they have good deep pockets in them!

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 23/11/2014 17:33

I like women's socks, preferably in pink or with flowers on. They are less likely to be taken by one of the three men/boy in the house.

PacificDogwood · 23/11/2014 17:34

Oh, gawd!
Don't get me started on lack of pockets in women's clothing!!
Massive pet hate of mine.

Selfconfessed, I see your point living as I do with DH and 4 DS Grin

Deep functional pockets too.

MehsMum · 23/11/2014 17:43

Pacific I had forgotten that I could wear men's socks... I am now inspired, as I am a size 7 and a lot of women's socks are a tad small so go through at the toe (I have nails of steel). I will have to hide from Mr Cholmondley-Warner.

As for pockets... One of my several DD's refuses to buy women's trousers. Since she has no hips to speak of, she buys blokes' ones, and brags about how she can fit her phone in her pocket.

Pastamancer · 23/11/2014 18:09

Size 8 here and just wear M&S bog standard women's socks. I have never had the issue of digging in my ankles and I really struggle to get boots that are big enough for my calves.

Perihelion · 23/11/2014 21:45

Kids ( usually boys ) M & S socks in size 12-3.5 for me. Am slightly horrified that DD 8, now wears the same sized socks.....

Also Bridgedale socks are amazing, think they only try to cover 2 sizes, so they fit without wrinkles and causing blisters. Very expensive, but last years.

And I love functional pockets especially with zips Grin

AuntieStella · 23/11/2014 21:52

Uniqlo sell men's socks in pink.

Crinkle77 · 23/11/2014 22:39

I got a pack of black mens socks in ASDA the other week. I am a size 8 so mens socks will fit. Anyway they were cheaper than the ladies and they come further up the ankle which is what you want when it's cold.

FannyBlott · 23/11/2014 22:59

I love those socks op! I have small feet and buy children's 12-3.5 ones, I've never looked in the boys section before, why did I not think of that?? I currently have hideous pink and grey heart covered ones which were the least childish I could find at the time. I hate my socks but they fit and women's/mens are too big.

gingee · 23/11/2014 23:00

Primark do a fab range of socks I wouldn't say too 'gendered', just plain colours or random fruit pictures or these

I am a size 4, mens socks would be a nightmare and probably come up to my knees, I wear kids plain multipack socks!

gingee · 23/11/2014 23:01

Oh link fail m.primark.com/en/whats-new/article/340womens-photo-print-socks

Morloth · 23/11/2014 23:08

I only buy men's socks.

DH and I share socks. I have big feet for a woman and he has small feet for a man.

Win win.
