To not iron?!

I don't iron, never have done, don't see the point, I look well presented and not creased! I forget that people actually iron until someone mentions it and I get some very surprised responses from people when I tell them I don't even own an iron, telling me they iron underwear, towels etc. Please tell me I am not the only one?!

Yanbu. I'm the same. Don't see the point, total waste of your life. The trick is in the hanging/putting away/storage of the clothes. If they're put away correctly then they should be fine. Having said that there's certain dresses of the DD's that don't look great without a good iron, they come out of the wash awfully creased and subsequently dry creased so I have to iron those. And DH irons his work clothes but that's it.

My Gran irons EVERYTHING! She irons her underwear, socks, bedding including sheets, curtains, the dogs fucking blanket... waste.of.time.

I want to be a non-ironer! Please someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I see everyone talks about using the tumble drier to eliminate creases. My stuff comes out of the drier with more creases than if it were on the line. I hardly use it because of this, as if I dry on the line/radiator I can get away with about 50% ironing. If I use the drier, all the clothes need ironing, and the creases are even harder to get out.
What am I doing wrong?

I'll iron a shirt when the occasion demands, job interview, funeral etc. But that's yer lot. My late mother used to iron bedlinen. My sister still does. Beats me.

Choose your fabrics carefully. If something truly requires ironing, shove it to the back of your wardrobe and wear it only for weddings.
Don't overload your dryer.
Set a timer for before your dryer is due to stop. Above clothes when they are hot and very slightly damp. Open the door, grab one item, restart dryer, hang and repeat.
Never leave clothes in a stopped dryer. If you do, wash them again rather than iron.
If a single item is a little creased, wet a tea towel and put it in the dryer with the ceased item. The steam will ease out most of the wrinkles.

Above = remove
Ceased = creased

Inthedark oh, he was undoubtedly trying to be nice! When I duly frothed at what he said, he explained that he wished I wouldn't bother ironing because he really didn't mind wearing unironed clothes, and he thought I ought to be sitting down and relaxing in the evenings rather than slaving away in the spare room by myself to no purpose.

But yeah, he might have phrased it better Grin

I iron the odd shirt for special occasions and use my straighteners to do the collars on ds' s shirts. A fab tip I think I got from mn, works a treat and saves getting ironing board etc out.

I tend to only buy things that won't crease. Life is too short, thankfully neither of us need to wear shirts for work.

PuppyMonkey · 22/11/2014 16:07

I haven't ironed anything for about 3 years now.

I hang things on hangers to dry, including shirts. You don't need to iron them then. I learned this from a telly programme about Bruce Forsyth - that's how he does his shirts. Got taught while he was doing national service or something. Grin

I haven't used my tumble dryer much either since I got my Lakeland heated airer. Still no ironing.

I've actually forgotten where my iron is now you mention it.

I have a steam generator iron which does a fantastic job when I get it out.
I iron only if:

We're going out somewhere special
It's Christmas and the tablecloth and napkins have been found screwed up at the back of the airing cupboard (they go IN folded, I know, as I do it!)
A DC has an interview

I have thought to maybe iron the duvet cover (idle thought before jumping out of bed!) but that never happens. I wear jogging trousers or leggings most days, t-shirts and fleecey tops which just don't need an iron. Bliss working from home!

My Nan used to iron everything. Even my dolls clothes after I had washed them! Sheets and pillow cases would be smooth and lovely to get in between.
She also ironed undies as she said that it was an extra defence against germs even though they had been washed.

I only iron if what I want to wear has been crumpled in a ball in the floordrobe for so long that even shaking it doesn't make it presentable.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 22/11/2014 18:31

I don't even own an iron Blush

Hatespiders · 22/11/2014 18:33

Pullshairout, we used to call the floor the Big Shelf!

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 22/11/2014 21:00

I iron my scout leader stuff on Remembrance day and St Georges parades. Other than that it is hung wet to dry and looks ok.
