To think that I am pregnant even though two tests give opposite results.

The early indicator one has two lines, albeit one very faint. I did it first thing this morning.

The Clear Blue one says not pregnant, I did it an hour ago.

I gave birth to our DS 14 weeks ago, my DH reckons the hormones could be in my body from then and I have a false positive because of that.

Anyone know anymore about this?

Apologies if it offends anyone.

I don't about the reliablity of pregancy tests. I just wish you and your family well.

Sn00p4d · 18/11/2014 13:48

No idea about testing so soon after a birth/hormones left over but I had 6 negatives and knew I was pregnant, eventually got the positive and I'm now 26 weeks so it was definitely a positive! Is your cycle back to normal following the birth?
Congratulations on your son btw!x

trufflesnout · 18/11/2014 13:50

Why would it offend anyone?

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 18/11/2014 13:50

It seems very soon....go to the doctor maybe? Congratulations though on the new baby!x

ScaryMartian · 18/11/2014 13:52

Don't know anything about hormones after childbirth but 14 weeks seems a long time for the hcg to stick around.

It may be that the clear blue test isn't as sensitive as the other one you took- especially as you say it's an early indicator one.

Try again in a couple of days and hopefully you'll get a clearer answer.

PeterParkerSays · 18/11/2014 13:56

I seem to remember that you can get false negatives with these tests but not false positives. Also the test done first thing this morning will have a higher hormone concentration so be more reliable.

I think it's congratulations.....Smile

Marmaladecat1 · 18/11/2014 14:03

I think you are pregnant!

KnackeredMuchly · 18/11/2014 14:05

I'd phone your midwifery team and ask. It is certainly possible to be pregnant at 14 weeks, although unlikely.

Are you breastfeeding? Have you had unprotected sex?

gaggiagirl · 18/11/2014 14:09

Congratulations Wink

Bulbasaur · 18/11/2014 14:12

I'm offended by your apology. Wink

I'd wait about 5 weeks and go to the GP. Then they'll be able to do an internal scan to confirm if you have a baby or not. It's the only way you'll be able to tell 100%.

Also, it is possible. 14 weeks is about 3.5 months. You are capable of getting pregnant again. Some people get pregnant as soon as 10 weeks after their previous baby.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/11/2014 14:12

When did you last have sex?

After 14 weeks, I doubt you'd still have hormones left over.

ireallydontlikemonday · 18/11/2014 14:15

It doesn't matter if the feint line is feint, a line is a line and as pp said, the concentration of hte hormone would be stronger.

When did you last have sex?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 18/11/2014 14:18

I was breast feeding albeit exclusively expressing and became pregnant when DS was 16 weeks. I now have a 10 month old and a 23 month old!

Breastfeeding is not a reliable contraceptive!

ineedausername · 18/11/2014 14:21

There is a year and 5 days between my 2, it's definitely possible to fall pregnant quickly. Good luck :)

MommyBird · 18/11/2014 14:23

I had exactly the same pregnancy test problem!

She's almost 5 now. Congrtuitions!

Stormingateacup · 18/11/2014 14:23

My understanding is that you can get a false negative but not a false positive.

TrisMas · 18/11/2014 14:24

There are only 10 months between my niece and nephew (on dh's side) so it's entirely possible!

Jasharps · 18/11/2014 14:25

It's unlikely that it's a false positive as op have said you can get false negs but not the other way about (unless test is faulty). A line is a line, it's likely that you're early in preg hence it being feint and the other test neg. Congratulations

Sallystyle · 18/11/2014 14:28

I did an exam on hCG recently and it leaves your body around 3-4 weeks after birth IIRC.

Congrats are in order it seems :)

Calloh · 18/11/2014 14:46

I had six negatives and then a positive with DD1. (And they were spaced over 8 days)

I don't know anything about when the hormones leave but I would say a faint positive is likely to be more accurate than a negative.

Ludways · 18/11/2014 14:54

I had 5 negatives and an internal at the doctors where they said negative. He's 13 now!

Congratulations!!

financialwizard · 18/11/2014 14:59

Another one who had several negatives and that negative is nearly 5.

Amber76 · 18/11/2014 14:59

I did a pregnancy test ten days after period due and it was negative. Two days later showed positive. He's nearly 17 months now!

cavkc · 18/11/2014 15:30

My Aunt was 9 months and 2 weeks younger than my Dad and she wasn't premature!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/11/2014 15:53

Cavkc, your GP's really didnt wait did they.
