Some nut job that I know has just called her dd this. She thinks it's funny.

It's none of my business what anyone calls their child, but AIBU to be upset on the child's behalf?

Really? Is Smile their actual surname?

I went to a very rough school, so would think the parent was either fantastically naive and unaware of the connotations, or a bit too streetwise for their own good.

Are you sure it isn't just a cultural thing though - like Goodluck Jonathan etc. some cultures have a tradition of using words as names, so they might genuinely mean it as a nice name.

squoosh · 17/11/2014 16:45

You mean this is the name on the child's birth cert? What's her other kid called, Glasgow Kiss?

SuburbanRhonda · 17/11/2014 16:45

Has she googled Chelsea Smile?

Funny it definitely isn't.

meglet · 17/11/2014 16:50

Nooooo! I hope you've misheard.

PunkAssMoFo · 17/11/2014 17:02

Seriously. Smile is the Middle name. She has stated that it's after the saying. She does think that's shes uber Rock & roll, but this translates as unhinged to everyone else. I feel burdening the child is taking her image too far. If anyone tried to reason with her, she'll just laugh & probably add in another even worse name. Child was only born today so there's still hope she might come to her senses. I feel so sad for the little girl.

It is not cultural.

I have a feeling the registrar might bring her to her senses Grin

Are you sure she isn't just on a pethidine/hormone high - or pulling your leg? I had some very interesting ideas during the days after giving birth..

MaidOfStars · 17/11/2014 17:05

Is Smile the surname? It's very rare as the singular (Smiles is more common) so this post would make the subject VERY identifiable.

Seriouslyffs · 17/11/2014 17:06

Do you think they know what it means?

Cauliflowersneeze1 · 17/11/2014 17:12

That's sick

What does her partner say about it ?

DishwasherDogs · 17/11/2014 17:17

I'd never heard of a Chelsea Smile until this thread.

coalscuttle · 17/11/2014 17:19

I just had to google that and wish I hadn't. I'm sure the registrar will say something.

SuperFlyHigh · 17/11/2014 17:20

Wow - that's sick. I didn't know until I googled it what it meant and now I know... [shocked] I'm sure her DD will thank her in years to come, not.

SuperFlyHigh · 17/11/2014 17:21

So wait, she's being uber Rock n Roll? I'm sure even uber Rock n Rollers wouldn't call their child such a name with a sick meaning.

HesterShaw · 17/11/2014 17:21

Good lord Shock

TrendStopper · 17/11/2014 17:21

What is rock and roll about cutting someones mouth?Confused

I really think someone needs to have a serious word with her.

GarlicNovember · 17/11/2014 17:21

Neither had I, Dishwasher, and I wish I hadn't found out Shock Sad

NewEraNewMindset · 17/11/2014 17:24

I just googled that and wish I hadn't. Feel sick now.

HesterShaw · 17/11/2014 17:24

It's horrific. I just googled it, even though I knew roughly what one was, and even more horrific, almost all the images are of women.

I have no idea why I did that by the way.

FayKorgasm · 17/11/2014 17:24

I didn't know what a Chelsea smile was and had to google. Its horrific.

enderwoman · 17/11/2014 17:26

They think it's funny? Omg... Words fame.

squoosh · 17/11/2014 17:27

Oh god, don't put it into google images!

Whatisaweekend · 17/11/2014 17:31

Good grief. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to name their own offspring, should they.

Are you going to say anything? Or perhaps suggest 'Water Torture' and 'Hung Drawn Quartered' for subsequent children?

CocktailQueen · 17/11/2014 17:33

I didn't know that was a phrase. It's horrible. Sorry I googled it now :( She must be insane.

BreeVDKamp · 17/11/2014 17:34

Wow I had never heard of that either. Gross!
