To ask for delivery cost to be refunded *title edited by MNHQ at OP's request*

My Waitrose delivery is 2.5 hours late. The did call to tell me a couple of hours before it was due, but also said that it might be on time as they were planning on coming straight to me. This meant that I couldn't go out before it was due, our lunch was in the order, not the end of the world, but running low. The most annoying thing is that I now have a cranky toddler as I don't want to try and put her down for a nap because they could rock up at any time.

Basically, my Sunday has been a bit screwed, and following the initial call, I've had to chase them to find out what's happening.

Should I ask for a voucher, do you think, or AIBU?!

We've tried that, noelle. She takes just as long to go to bed at night. She's in nursery during the week so not getting her to nap is tricky. She's significantly more jolly following her sleep, also.

Help I wondered that too.

Ialways get my Waitrose deliveries free by making the shop up to £60 with more wine.

It doesn't matter though. The delivery was very, very late. Op could have been lounging around scoffing chocolates and necking champagne all day; an apology and a voucher or refund (aka compensation) are due.

What weird responses this thread elicited Confused

I've changed my mind. 5.5 hours late is ridiculous. YANBU..

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 16/11/2014 20:02

Did you phone waitrose to complain?

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/11/2014 20:07

Email their ceo tomorrow.

Why wouldn't op be compensated? It screwed up her day.

toothlessoldhag · 16/11/2014 20:10

I don't understand why you've had such a hard time here. I've been in your position and asked (and got without a murmur) for my delivery cost back. As someone said up-thread. You paid for a service that wasn't provided.

I hope you got compensation (why not call it that?) OP for the ridiculous time you had to wait.

PeppermintPasty · 16/11/2014 20:14

I don't get it, when waitrose rocked up late for the slot I'd chosen, they gave me my roast chicken (on the order) free. I didn't even mention it, and I didn't understand what the vair vair nice man was on about until he'd left.

Perhaps you should move to Cornwall op Smile

OP poor you! People are being horrible! For what it's worth I manage a customer service team and would be offering some kind of voucher or discount anyway and would fully expect the customer to have a little moan and would sort "compo" accordingly. You paid for a time slot and they failed it meet it therefore you wasted your whole day. fair enough they called you but still Thanks

5 and a half hours late is just stupid, of course you should complain, and get a refund for the delivery fee (hopefully plus a voucher!).

Some of the replies about getting your daughter to sleep have been a bit nasty, I would ignore them completely. I also breastfeed and cosleep with my DD, and she will often feed for quite a while before dropping off (and longer still before she unlatches enough for me to escape). That doesn't mean that she doesn't need to sleep- I'm perfectly capable of reading her cues. I'm confused why strangers would care how long your DD takes to go to sleep.

Momagain1 · 16/11/2014 20:47

YANBU. waitrose give a 2 hour window for delivery, so to miss it is a bigger screw up than shops offering a half-hour window. 2 hours is a big chunk of day to set aside, especially on Sunday. Waitrose will probably refund /offer vouchers without your even asking, and certainly if you do ask.

Dont understand why the baby can't be put down for a nap though.

I think YABU to have ordered so little that you have to pay a delivery fee! I find I can always manage to order something to stockpile: papergoods, cleaning supplies, canned goods, in order to avoid the fee. there's always something I could as easily by now as next week.

NoelleHawthorne · 16/11/2014 20:51

well lots of sympathy then. its frickin annoying - kids and sleep

MargotLovedTom · 16/11/2014 20:56

TurtleTamer thank you for clarifying re 4k tv. Have just googled and am still thinking wtf?! re buying one for a three year old! A bit off topic, sorry.

Nightboattocairo · 16/11/2014 22:12

Momagain1 - there is no delivery fee. There is a minimum delivery amount which is £60. No shopping in your cart up to £60 = no delivery.
