To ask for delivery cost to be refunded *title edited by MNHQ at OP's request*

My Waitrose delivery is 2.5 hours late. The did call to tell me a couple of hours before it was due, but also said that it might be on time as they were planning on coming straight to me. This meant that I couldn't go out before it was due, our lunch was in the order, not the end of the world, but running low. The most annoying thing is that I now have a cranky toddler as I don't want to try and put her down for a nap because they could rock up at any time.

Basically, my Sunday has been a bit screwed, and following the initial call, I've had to chase them to find out what's happening.

Should I ask for a voucher, do you think, or AIBU?!

Saw this on their FB page.

Looks like they'll send a goodwill code if you complain.

Elfina · 16/11/2014 16:39

Thanks all - to the person who said I should have called earlier, I have called hourly, and they keep saying an hour. Still not hear.

Regarding the nap - thanks, I'm well aware that my daughter's sleep pattern is ridiculous. She takes 45mins to sleep at night, too. Funnily enough, I agree it's not ideal. I'm exhausted, and I have actually tried many thing to improve it.

Goodness op, expecting to get the thing you paid for AND not having the perfect child - shame on you Wink

Have you ordered wine? Grin

Elfina · 16/11/2014 16:44

Thanks, puppy. Gosh, if my wine was in there I think I'd have gone down to the depot to get it myself Grin

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheep · 16/11/2014 16:45

that was me Grin you don't have to be offended it was a reasonable question

you certainly shouldn't pay for delivery now and I would expect some good will gesture as well

personally I'd have cancelled the order and gone to Asda

sorry you are shattered OP Flowers it sounds fraught - people can't be blamed for no knowing all that though based on your OP x

ChimesAndCarols · 16/11/2014 16:46

Can't put her down for a nap because she takes about 45 mins to get to sleep, and if I move, we have to start all over again.

Shock........ really?

Elfina · 16/11/2014 16:50

I'm not offended, it's just a bit painful having people be horrified about my DD's sleeping. I bloody know it's shit! She wakes up about 2-3 times in the night, too. It feels a little tht people are just taking the opportunity to stick the boot in in the guise of concern, or by letting me know is not normal. I am only too aware that it's not normal!

The nap thing is a bit of a red herring, really. I'm mostly pissed off that I've been waiting in all day wishes that I'd not mentioned the bloody nap

It takes me about 45 minutes to get my toddler to nap/bed too. I'm still breastfeeding so feed and cuddle to sleep. I don't see why that's so shocking, we can't all have perfect sleeper. And I would be pissed off if my shopping was so late too, the OP has wasted most of her day waiting for it when she could have been doing something else. I would want a voucher or something, if you pay off a service then it's not unreasonable to expect them to do their job well.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/11/2014 16:53

But you don't pay for a service.... Waitrose delivery is free.

It is Waitrose though, And I'm sure if you moan to their customer support they will sort you out with a wee something.

Elfina · 16/11/2014 16:55

Waitrose delivery is only free over £60. I did pay for delivery.

Thank you, winter! So nice to know we're not the only ones! (BF and cosleeping too).

What's a bottle of wine or a voucher, and an apology, if not compensation?

Op isn't asking for a four figure pay out Confused

Hope your delivery arrives soon op. I'm sure Waitrose will do the right thing.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/11/2014 16:57

Waitrose delivery is only free over £60. I did pay for delivery.

That's interesting, don't have that option with my local Waitrose which is a pain.

Cauliflowersneeze1 · 16/11/2014 17:08

They gave me a £20 voucher once , I almost had a stand up (polite) argument over it as I really wasn't after anything , I just thought they should be aware of something

treaclesoda · 16/11/2014 17:21

I'd be irritated if I was in the OP's situation too. I wouldn't be wanting some huge compensation but a small gesture eg £5 voucher or something is really not that much to ask. I think it's weird that people would think it's overly demanding and grabby to expect the service that you have entered into a contract to receive. Confused Even if the delivery is free of charge it doesn't absolve them of responsibility to provide it in the timescale they agreed to. I wouldn't be going in all guns blazing but I'd definitely bring it to their attention that their service wasn't up to scratch. Businesses know they can get away with crap service because so many people, as perfectly illustrated by this thread, think it's very vulgar to complain.

raltheraffe · 16/11/2014 17:23

I would always ask for a voucher, if they give it you, more fool them.

Purplepoodle · 16/11/2014 17:26

I would be asking for my delivery fee back. They offer a time slot I would expect them to stick to it, when they call me to said they would be late I would have asked for the delivery fee to be refunded. This is why I started doing click and collect as delivery was just awful

raltheraffe · 16/11/2014 17:32

I bought ds (3) one of those new 4k plasma TVs 2 weeks ago and PC World made a balls up of the delivery so they phoned me, apologised and gave me £50 and I never even complained. That is good service.

Elfina · 16/11/2014 17:35

It's here! 5 and a half hour's late!

YANBU to ask for the delivery fee to be refunded

PuppyMonkey · 16/11/2014 17:45

5 1/2 hours late Shock

Velocirapture · 16/11/2014 17:50

I would ask for compensation. Of course its not the end of the world but its not what you paid for or what they contracted to do.

They should definitely refund the delivery fee and a bottle of wine / £20 of vouchers wouldn't go amiss either.

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 16/11/2014 18:06

Completely reasonable to expect refund on delivery charge for that kind of delay
