Ched Evans Should NOT be allowed to train at Sheffield United !! Wales next?

DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 11:04

seriously?
I am absolutely appalled. I really really hope this doesn't mean he will ever play for Wales. I will definitely be taking part in some kind of protest if that happens.

But the point is the jury took into consideration things we are told should not be taken into consideration. Like consent to go to a hotel room equals consent to have sex. It doesn't. And I wonder if the door was locked or open and who asked Ched Evans in. The whole situation is vile. But I am of the opinion that others were involved in this crime. And how can his girlfriend take such a creature back. It's beyond belief.

SanityClause · 14/11/2014 12:57

I wonder if the door was locked or open and who asked Ched Evans in.

He lied to a member of the hotel staff to get a key, and let himself in with that.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 12:58

VM, we do not KNOW what the jury took into consideration. We are speculating.

Viviennemary · 14/11/2014 13:00

Presumably they took into consideration all the facts they had before them. Of which that was quite an important one. Because if the other man let Ched Evans in why did he let him in and for what purpose. No more specualtion. OK.

Viviennemary · 14/11/2014 13:01

Didn't see your post Sanity. That does shed a different light on things.

chockbic · 14/11/2014 13:02

The other bloke's career has gone down the tubes. He wasn't even convicted.

What's so special about Ched Evans?

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 13:02

It's a documented fact that Ched Evans let himself in with an extra key he had got from hotel staff. Ched has said that in court.

What we don't know is whether the jury took the view that consent to go to the hotel with CM = consent to sex or whether there was some other reason for the acquittal of CM. As his case was not applying for appeal, there is less detail on it in the crimeline link.

chockbic · 14/11/2014 13:04

Is it true she asked Ched for oral sex?

Or could that be something made up.

confuddledDOTcom · 14/11/2014 13:05

I know they can only give a verdict on what he's been charged with but I think he should have been charged in the same way that women who hold women down are charged with rape, as well as rape for his own part (not that I'm saying I think he did or didn't rape her) I wasn't criticising the jury.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 13:05

X post, VM.

Choc, I think the other guy is a poorer player. Additionally, texting his friend to say he'd got a bird, being seemingly unsurprised when said friend arrived to put his penis inside said woman and just walking away, at best indifferent to the woman's situation, are not the acts of a role model either.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 13:06

Chock, CE and possibly CMas well stated that she did.

Obviously no one else was present and the victim had no recollection.

chockbic · 14/11/2014 13:06

Thanks Yonic.

limitedperiodonly · 14/11/2014 13:15

the jury took into consideration things we are told should not be taken into consideration

I don't think they did. Many people hold the view that if a woman goes back to a room alone with a man in a date-type situation that he has a reasonable expectation of sex.

I don't hold that view. And if I was a juror on such a case, I would explain why. But it's not 12 Angry Men, so I wouldn't expect to convince the other jurors.

Also despite not holding that view, in the absence of injury or independent testimony, I might feel compelled to give the defendant the benefit of the doubt that he believed her going back with him equalled consent.

I would do that with a heavy heart.

That's Clayton McDonald for you.

The rapist Ched Evans, however, wouldn't have a leg to stand on if I was a juror.

Andrewofgg · 14/11/2014 13:20

The room was locked in the sense that every hotel room locks when you close it, unlike a bedroom in a private house. I don't think it can be suggested that CM "locked her in" if that's what you mean Viviennemary. We know how CE got in - he talked some fool at the desk into giving him a key.

DawnMumsnet · 14/11/2014 13:20

Afternoon all,

We've had a fair few reports about this thread. Just wanted to let you know that a certain poster may now have, ahem, left the building.

Here's a link to our We Believe You campaign, for anyone that needs reminding.

limitedperiodonly · 14/11/2014 13:23

Sorry confuddledDOTcom. I wasn't criticising you or accusing you of criticising the jury.

I suspect that in this case the CPS thought it would be simpler to stick with two simple rape charges rather than complicating the issue.

I think it's quite rare for someone to be picked up on those other charges. I don't know. Perhaps someone else can say.

I am amazed they got a conviction here. Pleased, but amazed. Like I said, I think the jury deeply considered the issues. I might not have agreed with their deliberations about Clayton McDonald, but I wasn't there, so I don't know what was said.

BinarySolo · 14/11/2014 14:29

Apologies if I'm repeating here (I only read the first few and last few pages).

Jennifer Ennis has said that if Ched comes back to play for Sheffield United she wants her name removing from the stand that currently shares it.

Two female patrons of the club have resigned.

One of the strip sponsors have said they will pull funding if he returns as a player and the other will 'consider it's position'.

Makes you wonder wtf Sheffield are playing at even having him back to train. Even if they believe he is innocent he is a convicted sex offender and his family have harassed and publicly named his victim.

The website protesting his innocence is vile. It seeks to humiliate as well as discredit his victim. For example it make a reference to her irinating in a doorway - how does this have any relevance other than seeking to further humiliate the victim. Ched's girlfriend really is a silly little girl and I just hope she's never drunk and not in the mood in his company as by her own standards it would be impossible for him to rape her.

CariadsDarling · 14/11/2014 14:31

I suspect Sheffield United have had him back so they can take the easy way out let him go after bowing to public pressure.

BinarySolo · 14/11/2014 14:33

Just to clarify that last comment: I am of course in no way wishing rape on any one. I do think she's set a dangerous standard of what behaviour is acceptable to her tho, even putting aside the fact he cheated.

Sallyingforth · 14/11/2014 22:53

And how can his girlfriend take such a creature back. It's beyond belief.

Because he's a millionaire who has put a diamond ring on her finger? Some women have sex with unpleasant men for far less.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 23:01

Sallying, her dadis a lot to her than Ched so don't think it's just that

Sallyingforth · 14/11/2014 23:20

OK yonic perhaps I've got it wrong but why else would anyone cosy up to a rapist?

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 23:38

Sally, I think she genuinely doesn't believe that what he did was rape.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 23:39

My first post was supposed to be "a lot richer"!

YonicScrewdriver · 14/11/2014 23:40

And I would not be surprised if she if women she knows have had sex when incapacitated by drink or other substances and have not seen it as rape.
