... to ask if MN has a grumpy 'old' women topic?

I know there is pedants corner but I was wondering if there was anywhere where like minded people who want to complain about words like amazeballs, and other grumpy things can go and be grumpy without being told to get a life?

OP posts:
agoodbook · 12/11/2014 20:50

i had a proper pram and not a 'travel system ' as well

Pipbin · 12/11/2014 21:22

Or a perambulator like at the beginning of Nanny with Wendy Craig........

(left outside the shop with baby- the horror!) none of this I'll litter the buggy in the middle of the shop so no one can get by and go off to look at things -that really gets me going

Sarine1 · 12/11/2014 21:42

Bless you all. What a pleasure to read this thread. o levels, perambulators, no christmas before December.... my kind of talk Thanks

duchesse · 12/11/2014 21:51

I'm loving this topic already, even though it doesn't yet exist and has no name. Looks like it will be fun. Grin

SirChenjin · 12/11/2014 21:54

Are there joining criteria? Or is it more a state of mind, as opposed to actual age?

ArgyMargy · 12/11/2014 22:50

Jesus Baby Shower, Pipbin. Keep up!

HicDraconis · 12/11/2014 22:52

I think it's a state of mind - I was born a grumpy old woman :)

There was a campaign decades ago called "Kick Christmas Into December", we should reactivate it.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 12/11/2014 22:54

Y'all need Thanksgiving. It's how we keep Christmas at bay in the States.

Pipbin · 12/11/2014 22:55

Of course Argy sorry.

No age limit. That's why I would like it to be called something like And Another Thing, rather than grumpy old women.

If MNHQ don't give us a topic of our own then I think we should just have a constant complaining thread.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/11/2014 23:08

I'm in. Everything makes me grumpy at the moment. I started to wonder if I was perimenopausal but, if I'm honest, I've been like this for years.

God, there's so much stuff I grumble about day to day, but I can't think of a single thing right now. Bloody annoying!

ZingOfSeven · 13/11/2014 00:26

oh I'm grumpy as Jack Dee. I'm in

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 13/11/2014 01:24

Scone we do not need your thanksgiving thank you very much

Its bad enough having to twat about with pumpkins at Halloween (not that I bother mind you Grin ).
And 2 lots of turkey in one year, dear god almighty.
And having relatives over, food preparation, oh the noise.

Have I made myself clear. Good. We'll say no more about it.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 13/11/2014 01:37

Ah, but we don't do turkey twice. We have ham or beef for Christmas. Smile

HicDraconis · 13/11/2014 01:59

I don't do turkey at all. Dry tasteless crap. We'll be on our 5th turkey free year this year - since we emigrated we've embraced the whole Christmas on the beach/barbeque idea (and we live far enough away from neighbours that if I want a barbie with a smoker box, I will damn well have one and enjoy my hot smoked salmon without worrying about their washing out).

Scone is forgiven for thanksgiving turkey because her username is absolutely right. It does.

And another thing, while I'm posting. It's "yogg-urt". Yog as in Bog.
Not Yoe-gurt, yoe as in joe.

HicDraconis · 13/11/2014 02:04

I'd also like to be able to be really grumpy about things DH does which are totally unreasonable - without being told that I should LTB (because actually I adore him) or that I am controlling and needy and he should LTHic (because I'm really not and he adores me).

But sometimes when I've been at work all day and I get home knackered and he asks what's for dinner I feel like screaming "I don't know, you've been home all day, you make a bloody dinner decision and if I start it now we won't be eating for another hour which is waaaay past the boys' bedtime and I'm hungry and you should have damn well cooked something already" when in reality I just look in the fridge and get on with cooking something. I think about starting a ranty thread but someone won't read it and post something ridiculous, someone will tell me to leave him, someone will say I need counselling or anger management issues - before I know it, I've stopped reading it anyway and gone off to have a glass of wine cup of tea. So I never bother.

ChippingInAutumnLover · 13/11/2014 05:49

hic

Yes, I was on the thread, I posted about Whitakers! :)

P.Rise is in Auckland. Famous for Christmas Lights. I think it's fabulous, you'd hate it Grin

Christmas BBQs are the only way in NZ, it's too bloody hot to be cooking and eating a trad Christmas dinner, that's much better saved for a good Mid Winter Christmas :)

I love being back here though where it feels like Christmas, lots more carol singing, you don't have to wait until 10pm to see the Christmas lights etc though I do miss Christmas In The Park.

So many of these posts are making me really, really miss Mumsnet of old. Ones like your last one.

HicDraconis · 13/11/2014 06:42

We're coming back to the UK for Christmas this year. I am bringing a very large suitcase full of Whittaker's. I refuse to eat crap chocolate at Christmas :) I may have to bring another case of local wine, it's so difficult living surrounded by wineries and fields full of grapes.

CuttedUpPear · 13/11/2014 08:06

I am very much in favour of this idea but think it unlikely that MNHQ will give us our own topic (I think they get bombarded with requests to change the site ar regular intervals).

Therefore I am proposing an ongoing thread (well, infinite series of threads).

Like the Wenching ones (Hmm ) or the Archers ones (Smile ) where one leads to the next.

After all, it's not as if we will be in heated debate against one another, rather I suspect that it will be a convenient dump-and-run place with much tacit agreement going on.

The thread title could be something like "And Another Thing - GOW sign in here"

Any advances on that?

Pipbin · 13/11/2014 08:12

I agree Cutted. The chances of our own topic are slim.

OP posts:
BrendaBlackhead · 13/11/2014 08:16

Excellent.

I am definitely a GOW.

MehsMum · 13/11/2014 08:19

Indeed. MNHQ seems to be ignoring us.

PS Scone does not rhyme with gone. It just... doesn't, okay? It rhymes with bone. Everyone with any sense knows this.

PPS I am the only one who still says 'MNHQ seems' rather than 'MNHQ seem'? I am always screaming at the radio, 'It's not the government ARE, it's the government IS!'

Pipbin · 13/11/2014 08:21

I don't get bothered the the government is or are.
But I do get anxious about the staff is or are.

YY to mrJolly.

I do not want Thanksgiving thank you.

You can stick your pumpkins where the sun don't shine.
