I know there is pedants corner but I was wondering if there was anywhere where like minded people who want to complain about words like amazeballs, and other grumpy things can go and be grumpy without being told to get a life?

OP posts:
Tobyjugg · 17/11/2014 00:06

Pipbin I'm certainly that!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 17/11/2014 00:09

I took DS to a birthday party today

(Not a random one, he was invited)

They had a little disco - no problem so far, musical statues, dancing competition etc

Then they did the conga. Even DS (nearly 4yo) refused

The bloody conga Shock

HicDraconis · 17/11/2014 04:30

(channelling my inner wossername, irritating Ministry Witch that makes HP write lines that cut into his hand)

(actually genuinely sorry for irritating you!)

BrendaBlackhead · 17/11/2014 08:15

I like a bit of conga-ing.

And I wish I could still get down on the floor to do Oops Upside Your Head -well, actually I could get down on the floor but might need some assistance getting up...

Agree about the offended threads. I don't post very much on that sort of thing, but sometimes you see a thread, eg the one about the colleague farting in the office, and what might have been quite an amusing diversion "kicks off" (btw I hate that phrase, along with "fetches popcorn" - come up with something new fgs!) into a rage of righteousness on behalf of anyone sphincterly challenged.

DidoTheDodo · 17/11/2014 09:29

I can't find anything to be terribly grumpy about this morning (yet). That's made me grumpy in itself.

DidoTheDodo · 17/11/2014 09:30

Oh yes I can. My colleague as just put the air con on. AIR CON??! It is November and I am bloody freezing. (Also I don't like her much as she is always interfering in my work in a very patronising manner but that is another story)

BrendaBlackhead · 17/11/2014 09:32

I'm not grumpy either. I'm quite chipper about going off to go and do the bicarb & bleach thing on the shower. But I may well be grumpy if it doesn't look spectacular afterwards...

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/11/2014 09:47

DH didn't put the joint account chequebook back in handbag when he used it to pay DS' piano teacher last week and it took ages to find it this morning so I could write to pay (late) for DS' school photos. It meant we were running late. Grrr. Does that count?

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/11/2014 09:48

my handbag

MehsMum · 17/11/2014 11:10

New grump:
Why (oh why) do companies put sew really scratchy labels into their clothes? I had this recently with a pair of Sainsbury's pjs. First I cut the scratchy label off the waistband, but that left me with two small scratchy stubs. So I decided to unpick the whole thing, only to find it was stitched in with thread vital to holding the pjs together. So I had to snip and snip and scratch and fiddle to get as much of the label off as possible. It worked, but why should I have to? Have we not invented soft labels for clothes?

Anyone else annoyed by this very first world problem?

(Sorry, Brenda, couldn't resist Grin).

MehsMum · 17/11/2014 11:10

Gah! Delete either 'put' or 'sew' in the post above.

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/11/2014 12:21

OK, I have just been reminded of one of my all time most rage-inducing occurrences. Local dog walkers keep putting their little black bags of dog shit in our kitchen waste caddy when we put it out the night before our kerb-side collection. The bin men lob the black bags back into our front garden when it happens. If I could find those dog walkers, I know I'd make them pay - unpleasantly. We do not have a dog, so it is extra disgusting as cleaning up dog shit is not in our 'taking care of business' repertoire

Orangeena · 17/11/2014 12:38

Oh mehs I am with you there....especially the bloody t-shirts etc from Primark that have the long sticky strip that says size 10/12/14 running right down the front of the t-shirt as well as all the other bloody tags hanging off the neck.I know these are supposed to simply peel off but I always manage to get one that breaks half-way and it takes ages to try and get the gummy/sticky stuff off the garment.Does this only happen to me then/

MrsHathaway · 17/11/2014 12:44

I like shops who've got round the "itchy label" issue by printing the information on the inside of the garment - eg Nutmeg school uniform and DC clothes, off the top of my head.

Other benefit: doesn't flip up to advertise to the world what size you are and where you shop.

MehsMum · 17/11/2014 13:12

Ah, yeah, but the printed stuff washes off, so in terms of checking what size you had last time is just as useless as a cut-out label. But less annoying, I give it that.

DustBunny, I apologise on behalf of all right-minded dog-walkers. I would NEVER put dog-bags in a recycling bin.

In fact (another grump coming) I am at least as pissed off with irresponsible dog walkers as our local rugby club is: at the rate things are going, dogs are going to be banned from the local playing fields because, despite a helpful scattering of shit-bins and nice obvious signs, some people are unable to clear up after their dogs.

GarlicNovember · 17/11/2014 14:07

Just sayin'

Pipbin · 17/11/2014 15:01

What I really don't understand is why some people go to all the effort of picking up their dogs shit in a bag but then just leave the bag on the ground or even worse hang it from a bush.

OP posts:
BrendaBlackhead · 17/11/2014 15:19

Yes, I have a very big dog who does very big poos. I am very responsible.

The worst are the night-time dog walkers. The amount of orange poo nestling amongst the leaves the following morning is gross.

Can I just say re carrying around dog poo, a man came up to me recently as I was trotting along carrying a jumbo bag, and insisted on taking my poo as he was heading towards a dog bin and I going in the opposite direction. Shock at his gallantry - but otoh grumpy because I don't feel like returning the compliment with anyone else's dog poo!

fresh · 17/11/2014 17:45

And another thing. Why do people think it's ok to check their phones in the cinema during the film? I've given up tutting at rustling packets, or fixing talkers with a steely glare, but I'm sorely tempted to snatch people's phones away from them and stamp on them.

Oh God, I've got old, haven't I?

DidoTheDodo · 17/11/2014 19:57

And another thing...
It is very wrong and very unfair to eat Monster Munch on a crowded commuter train on two counts.

  1. They STINK
  2. The packets are noisy.
HicDraconis · 19/11/2014 03:27

Yes to eating anything crunchy and smelling oniony on a crowded train. Particularly as I'd love a bag of crisps right now but I have 1.9kg to go to hit my (first) target weight.

MrsHathaway I love (and live in) Macpac merino tops, precisely because they have the label information printed onto the inside/back. The only problem comes when you put them on inside out and walk around parading your size to the world, they print it in large numbers.

I have 2 dogs. I pick up their poo religiously on walks and carry it with me to bins. What is it meant to do in its bag on the tree - be carried to a bin by a passing bird? I also hate people who let their dogs poo in the middle of the path and then walk off. Not that I've actually seen anyone do it, but people post threads about it so it must happen, plus I have seen poo in the middle of the path occasionally. I almost want someone to do it on my next dog walk so I can get righteously cross with them. I'll be grumpy if they pick it up now.

MrsHathaway · 19/11/2014 07:15

And another thing... Why would you offer no food at all at a children's birthday party running 11-3? Confused

HicDraconis · 19/11/2014 08:16

Errrr. 11-3, you would offer lunch. You just would. I mean, you would offer food at any kids party even if it was crisps, lollies and cake. But 11-3 means lunch!

MrsHathaway · 19/11/2014 08:23

I KNOW, RIGHT?

He inhaled his party bag on the way home.

MehsMum · 19/11/2014 17:07

Hic, have you gone all antipodean with 'lollies' meaning 'sweets'?
It confused the hell out of me when I first dealt with my Aussie rellies. Doesn't make me grumpy, though.

MrsHathaway, entirely agree about the party food. I always provide vast amounts, and then get insanely annoyed by children who eat the sandwich and leave the crust, eat the flan and leave the pastry and eat the icing and leave the cake. (We need a smoke-out-of-ears emoticon).
