I'm on holiday and was at a nice lunch yesterday given by an acquaintance at which I met a woman.

She'd brought a dish which was pretty nice so I asked her for the recipe. It also transpired she's moving to the UK, fairly near me, in 2015.

All fine. Except that this afternoon she dropped by to give me the typed-out recipe which included her own 'Tasting Notes.'

Which made reference to 'complex flavours' and 'after notes.'

AIBU to leave without calling to arrange to meet up next year? Is she a complete tool or is this remotely redeemable?

We are falling about reading it like Autralian Mastechef.

It's a pasta* dish FFS.

Hmm
NickiFury · 09/11/2014 19:42

Well she's not posted in a while. Pretty sure she couldn't give two hoots now actually.

puntasticusername · 09/11/2014 20:30

So there'd be no need for the hand-wringing about the need to lay off her, then, would there?

NickiFury · 09/11/2014 21:23

I didn't see any "hand wringing". Just more pointless tellings off.

puntasticusername · 09/11/2014 21:31

"NickiFury

Personally I think the OP has received FAR more vitriol than was warranted for the OP and I wonder why posters feel the need to add to it. I will be interested to see at what point it's decided she's been berated enough."

"NickiFury

No I didn't say any of that. I wondered how long the OP would need to be berated for? After all we have reached over 130 posts and still posters (yourself) felt they needed to dish out further tellings off too. Makes me think it's more about them wanting to Have Their Say. At what point has the OP been told off enough?"

You were saying?

NickiFury · 09/11/2014 21:47

YOU called it "hand wringing", that your label, not mine. Do you understand?

LuckyLuckyMe · 09/11/2014 22:24

I read this thread shaking my head and wondering what's happened to MN til I read Hissy's

ffs, it's PASTA! not some angels breath infused je ne sais quois in a unicorn piss jus.

And Runaway's

So it's bloody Maybe!! maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe. Ahem, as you were...

Aah that's better Grin

puntasticusername · 09/11/2014 22:43

I definitely don't understand what you're trying to say now, no.

NickiFury · 09/11/2014 22:47

Thought as much. I will make it simple for you.

You referred to "hand wringing" on the thread. I told you I didn't see any. You quoted my posts. I STILL didn't see any "hand wringing" and pointed out that your use of that term was just a label that you chose to use but IMO wasn't actually relevant to describe my posts Smile.

puntasticusername · 09/11/2014 22:57

Er...Ok. What were you trying to achieve with the posts I quoted, then?

NickiFury · 09/11/2014 23:02

Exactly what they said. I'm sorry you're struggling so much with this but I am not sure how I can be any clearer?

You labelled my posts as "hand wringing" a piss taking kind of label I felt. I disagreed.

This became tedious a while ago so let's leave it there shall we? Smile

cerealqueen · 09/11/2014 23:03

YABU to assume a friendship from the swapping of recipes and for this comment:

" I spoke her mother tongue at lunch, which I speak along with several other languages"

puntasticusername · 09/11/2014 23:04

Jeepers. Right, whatever, enjoy your day...

NickiFury · 09/11/2014 23:07

You too Smile

Sprink · 09/11/2014 23:24

I still want to see the recipe.

Waltermittythesequel · 09/11/2014 23:32

cereal you're allowed to be a sneery cow as long as you do it in different languages.

Paaahstar Recipe

You will need:

500g of minced beef
1 jar of Dolmio Bolognese sauce
250g of dried pasta shapes
1 tsp of oil

First, get a large pan and heat the oil. Add the mince and stir until completely browned.

  • Tasting Note: At this point the mince should have complex flavours of beef...

Boil some water in a large pot and add your dried pasta shapes.

To the now browned mince add your Dolmio sauce, careful not to splash yourself because it doesn't wash out. Stir and let simmer.

  • Tasting Note: After 5 minutes of simmering the sauce should taste of tomatoes, with after notes of basil and Detol...

After 7 minutes your pasta and sauce should be ready.

Serve with garlic bread and Blossom Hill soft fruity red wine.

Echocave · 10/11/2014 00:20

I've never heard of a tasting note before. You live and learn eh!

mimishimmi · 10/11/2014 02:03

You sound a little mean OP and she does sound a little bit portentous. She didn't offer you the recipe unsolicited but yes, adding afternotes, sounds a little over the top unless it was to say what modifications she makes to get it the way it tasted yesterday. That said, you enjoyed it so you shouldn't be laughing at her, she's obviously good at it!

KoalaDownUnder · 10/11/2014 06:44

MollyHooper is my new MN crush. (Actually, she's inaugural; I've never had one before.)

For all the accent-piss-takers: in Italy, pasta is not pronounced 'Passsss-ta' (with a short 'a' sound) like all my Brit friends say it, either. It's more like 'puuh-sta'.

'Pah-sta' is the bog-standard Australia pron, and is not remotely pretentious.

MollyHooper · 10/11/2014 14:56

:o Koala, shucks!

I'm just glad there are a few people left on MN who can still have a laugh.

CrockedPot · 10/11/2014 22:18

The most bonkers thread on mn for ages. Hilarious.

Mmmango · 11/11/2014 03:15

OP, please come back and share the tasting notes!

Floggingmolly · 11/11/2014 10:04

What's with all the piss taking? Confused Op was entranced enough by this simple peasant meal of pasta to ask for the fucking recipe; it's obviously in a whole different class to a jar of Dolmio...

Unless op is so unsophisticated in her tastes that Dolmio is dead classy? Either way, sneering at the poor cow for simply handing over the recipe as requested is a bit rich.

Frogme · 11/11/2014 10:10

I'll join you in the playground. I'd snigger childlessly too.
It's the pretentiousness of it all.
