I'm on holiday and was at a nice lunch yesterday given by an acquaintance at which I met a woman.

She'd brought a dish which was pretty nice so I asked her for the recipe. It also transpired she's moving to the UK, fairly near me, in 2015.

All fine. Except that this afternoon she dropped by to give me the typed-out recipe which included her own 'Tasting Notes.'

Which made reference to 'complex flavours' and 'after notes.'

AIBU to leave without calling to arrange to meet up next year? Is she a complete tool or is this remotely redeemable?

We are falling about reading it like Autralian Mastechef.

It's a pasta* dish FFS.

I'd find it pretty funny too but the post sounds a bit mean.

Montegomongoose · 09/11/2014 09:56

Am in stitches at this vitriol.

It was entirely tongue in cheek and her accent was irrelevant as she wasn't speaking English. I spoke her mother tongue at lunch, which I speak along with several other languages, though I'm not sure how the pp divined I was 'monolingual' or even why that should be an insult if I were.Hmm

All silly accents were my own work, as Fanjo so cleverly pointed out, and the actions of a filthy bullying racist.Grin

Glad to hear a couple of other low-lifes would also snigger at 'tasting notes.' Much more along the 'chili oil here would add interesting and complex top-notes' rather than 'I'd prefer this with cheddar' type of comment.

Bunbaker · 09/11/2014 10:04

My comments are more along the lines of "use only half a chilli and add more cumin" type of thing.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/11/2014 10:11

Bunbaker.nope..sorry..you must become resigned to being a pretentious cooking ponce Grin

Bunbaker · 09/11/2014 10:11

I shall continue poncing away then Grin

RunawayReindeer · 09/11/2014 10:14

MardyBra I too scrolled through the thread looking for ms Mabey........

And then I thought- no I won't post as they will think am a pretentious prick, but on the other hand... I am a pretentious prick :)

So it's bloody Maybe!! maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe. Ahem, as you were...

RunawayReindeer · 09/11/2014 10:17

And OP? You of little shame- laughing behind closed doors and such like, I suspect also kicking puppies and giving your children far too many Christmas presents... YANBU to be on your guard for poncey worthiness- but her dinner parties could be awesome! So I would like to keep my arse fully sat on the fence

duplodon · 09/11/2014 10:18

Puntastic.... 'you're not funny enough to carry this otherwise bitchy thread'....oooh, cutting!

Montegomongoose · 09/11/2014 10:20

Runaway!Shock

I would make room for you on the Bench of Internet Offenders but it's a beautiful morning and I need to get out there and spread some more eyewatering offence.

Keep it warm for me. Mabey I will be back later..Confused

" I spoke her mother tongue at lunch, which I speak along with several other languages,"

In my experience, only monolinguals rip the piss of other peoples accents.

I see now that my horizon have been widened.

Montegomongoose · 09/11/2014 10:24

duplodon yup that's what finished me off.

DH, the bastard, has been hissing it at me all morning.

Am curled dead-eyed under a bed hoping to die of shame.

OP posts:
RunawayReindeer · 09/11/2014 10:24

I shall spread out montegomongoose monolingual mongoose

I could do with the fresh air, I have two delightful children being fiendish today- one of which says aaaaaaahsda- we aren't sure why, but we try to discourage. But carry on with this thread- I shall safely return to the comfort of the Christmas section- much too volatile out here :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/11/2014 10:26

Quints. She didn't rip the piss out of her accent

QuintsBombWithAWiew · 09/11/2014 10:35

Really?

She ripped the piss of somebody's accent though! Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/11/2014 10:37

She just did a silly TV chef voice AFAIK

pluCaChange · 09/11/2014 10:42

You sound pretty incompatible. Perhaps she was a bit pretentious, but that appears to have provoked a full-on ego crisis in you. You evidently can't cope with approaches like hers and, unfortunately, have become rather alienatingly unkind yourself.

FFS, what's wrong with acknowledging that she was rather OTT, and you wouldn't be suited for further friendship.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/11/2014 10:46

Sorry but "ego crisis"?? How OTT PO can you go?

Cocolepew · 09/11/2014 10:56

I thought the op was funny Confused

PoppyAmex · 09/11/2014 10:58

As someone mentioned up thread, the problem is OP isn't funny enough to pass it off as a light hearted. Just sounds strangely mean with whiffs of aggression. hth

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/11/2014 10:59

Bit like your post poppy

PoppyAmex · 09/11/2014 11:05

Fair enough. At least I didn't ask the OP for a favour only to mock her online.

Wonder if other woman and her husband are "falling about" in stitches about OP's "several other languages"? Grin

MardyBra · 09/11/2014 11:08

" problem is OP isn't funny enough to pass it off as a light hearted."

Or mabey the average Mumsnetter on Aibu these days doesn't possess a sufficient sense of subtlety or irony to get such an OP without the dreaded "lighthearted" disclaimer in the thread title.

MardyBra · 09/11/2014 11:09

"Just sounds strangely mean with whiffs of aggression. hth"

Loving the passive aggressive "hth" in this context. Grin

PoppyAmex · 09/11/2014 11:16

Thanks Mardy, that was totally deliberate Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/11/2014 11:17

Poppy. Do you give people recipes with poncetastic tasting notes?
