love it and after contributing to a thread today where some posters felt that girls need to learn to deal with being told to "suck my cock" I feel it's timely.

OP posts:
SilentCharisma · 24/10/2014 09:43

Clara I love that video; much more effective.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/10/2014 09:43

Swearing and children no no no. Surely there is a better way to convey the message.

Ilovetobiteyourneck · 24/10/2014 09:44

I thought it was great, really got the point home that people are far more concerned about some random words than the fact that women still don't have equality.

fourwoodenchairs · 24/10/2014 09:46

I like it.

Everyotherfreckle · 24/10/2014 09:47

They care about making money, not about raising awareness.

To be honest, even if it were a completely not for profit organisation, I would still be dubious about this sort of 'awareness raising'.

Isn't it funny how everyone was moaning the other week on the thread with the little children swearing, but this is acceptable?

Mumsnet is weird about swearing - first I saw a thread about children's most hilarious swearing moments, then I saw a thread where people were horrified at that little girl's ice bucket challenge, now apparently its the way forward to solve gender inequality issues.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 24/10/2014 09:49

I cannot help but think the people who are saying the like the video are only saying this because they have been told they like it by the media/fb or because they don't fully understand the concept of feminism, equal rights and gender equality.

IMO this kind of video is a Rad fems approach to feminism which really does not help the cause. I doubt any of the people responsible for making changes to gender inequality are going to watch the video and say 'yes what a compelling argument'

No, they are going to say ' Bloody feminists making children swear and discuss adult issues, idiots'.

AlbaGuBrath · 24/10/2014 09:49

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Just because I object to a cheap and tacky marketing tactic doesn't mean I care more about children swearing than the issues raised. It means I think there are better ways to get the point across.

In a juvenile way I can see why this would appeal to some but personally I think it's unnecessarily vulgar and prompts more debate over the language children used than the actual issues. It's being discussed in the media for all the wrong reasons.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 24/10/2014 10:06

kali yes I thought about that child swearing on u tube as well.

whataloadofoldshite · 24/10/2014 10:35

I think I've missed something with the video. I thought the whole point (though perhaps poorly made) was that it's odd that people are more concerned with the language used and appearance of the girls than the real issues of sexual assault and inequality. The idea being that there are outdated views on how girls should dress and act in order to not attract negative attention, bad reputation or unwanted sexual advances. I could completely have got the wrong end of the stick with it all though? Giving too much credit?

DuelingFanjo · 24/10/2014 10:35

Anyone mentioned yet that it's an advert to sell T-Shirts?

DuelingFanjo · 24/10/2014 10:37

this isn't offensive, it's exploitative

DuelingFanjo · 24/10/2014 10:38

why FCKH8 is not an ally

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 24/10/2014 10:44

Its such bullshit. The more I think about it the more the video annoys me. I feel as though feminism has taken a step back, not moved forward.

DuelingFanjo · 24/10/2014 10:47

It is nothing to do with feminism, it's a company trying to sell T-shirts by exploiting children and pretending that it's in the name of feminism. T-shirts with slogans they stole from charities and so on.

fluffyraggies · 24/10/2014 10:48

Nope. Don't like it.

And this: (from the comments Jash Faerta)

Let's buy a shirt made by exploiting foreign women and children to support feminism in USA!!! The irony.

WhoKnowsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 24/10/2014 10:55

How on earth is that going to change anything? It's just an attention grabbing viral advert which verges on the exploitative.

BumWad · 24/10/2014 11:01

Eugh. Feel uneasy listening to the swearing. Stopped watching video after 1 min so yea message received... NOT

skinnysoyvanillalatte · 24/10/2014 11:06

Really. Do girls/women have to swear and to appear "all in your face" to be seen as empowered or equal? And I get that the message is about the points mentioned being more offensive than the swearing but I don't think it conveys that message at all. To me it says "I am a girl who must use bad language to be tough taking and feisty" . Nah.

Allhallowspeeve · 24/10/2014 11:07

Brilliant !!! LOVED IT clap!!!

Best thing I seen this week!

DuelingFanjo · 24/10/2014 11:30

OMG read the links below. This video was made by a company who want to sell T-shits who they have ripped off from other people and charities.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 24/10/2014 11:33

You cannot reason with stupid people. They will love it because it controversial. Apparently controversial means good now Hmm

fromparistoberlin73 · 24/10/2014 11:37

i think its a pile o steaming shite- dont use children, with fucking make up and dresses to share your political message

I much prefer that Always advert

THIS is how you get the message across- no swearing, and its lovely

Callani · 24/10/2014 12:28

I agree with the messages in the video but I massively disagree with the video itself for a number of reasons, not least because it's made by a for-profit company that has taken advantage of numerous awful situations to make money before.

I think the whole video is pretty exploitative of the girls in it and, aside from the swearing which I think is majorly iffy, I REALLY dislike the idea that girls as young as 5 have learned what rape is. Is that age appropriate? And surely the girls don't really understand what they're saying - at which point you might as well be using puppets.

rallytog1 · 24/10/2014 13:11

I'm with Callani - all this video does is exploit little girls in order to sell t-shirts.

Allhallowspeeve · 24/10/2014 13:53

You don't have to buy the t- shirts. It still gets the message across.
