love it and after contributing to a thread today where some posters felt that girls need to learn to deal with being told to "suck my cock" I feel it's timely.

OP posts:
JustSpeakSense · 23/10/2014 20:18

Wrong

bodhranbae · 23/10/2014 20:23

Oh ok - just caught up on the commercial angle of this - that this is an advert for a FOR-PROFIT t-shirt company who have jumped on a lot of bandwagons including gay marriage, racism etc.

These young girls are being exploited by a company with the sole intent of making $$$.

Fuck that.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 23/10/2014 20:28

i've seen lots about the company who produced the video

still love it though - it challenges so much about how women and girls are treated, yet the most angst is against the language

they aren't abusing anyONE with their words, but patriarchy

job done IMO Wink

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 23/10/2014 20:30

I swear like a trooper too but not around small children.

Mrsstarlord · 23/10/2014 20:30

Clap, you have totally misrepresented the views of people on the other thread. Not going to get into it on here but given that your introductory post conveys a sense that people felt she should get over it I think it's worth correcting.

PillForgettingIdiot · 23/10/2014 20:31

I love this. The 'I think its horrible to hear children swearing' reactions are exactly what the advertising agency was going for. An all round success from an agency point of view.

bodhranbae · 23/10/2014 20:32

exactly what the advertising agency was going for

Says it all.

funkybuddah · 23/10/2014 20:33

swear words are just language. Words that are in the dictionary yet still people focus on that rather than the shit women face every day. (irrelevant of the fact that its a for profit company)

bodhranbae · 23/10/2014 20:38

Why is it "irrelevant" that these children have been exploited for profit?
Surely that undermines everything?

Since when was it sisterly and feminist to take young girls and use them to flog crappy t-shirts?

What next - get them twerking in bikinis and get them to flog ketchup?

What bollocks.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 23/10/2014 20:43

What about

I think it's still advertising something...but while that's an iffy part of the whole thing, why doesn't anyone make a non profit one? I can't...I'm sure I haven't the talent. Anyone here capable? Care enough?

If someone would like to make a video which captures as much as the one I've linked to in the OP and the one I linked to here..above..then I'll assist in any way I'm able.

mommy2ash · 23/10/2014 20:46

I couldn't watch it all i think it is using children to get across adult issues and I don't think it is appropriate then you add in all the needless swearing. all of it was totally unnecessary to me. I understand the issues are important but this isn't the right way to go about changing anything.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 23/10/2014 20:47

If pearl clutching is being shocked that adults are telling children to swear and discuss topics that they are too young to understand and flogging T shirts while doing so them yes I clutch my pearls.

Exploiting and manipulating children is always wrong.

PillForgettingIdiot · 23/10/2014 20:49

bodhranbae The fact that we even noticed it enough to discuss it, and the issues it touches on mean it is a success.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 23/10/2014 20:49

I don't like it. The swearing is unnecessary and detracts from the important message. I stopped watching it after a little bit. I doubt I'm the only one who did that. Ergo, message not put across.

OutragedFromLeeds · 23/10/2014 21:06

I hate it.

Not particularly bothered by the swearing.

Hate the grown-up attitude the children have been asked to use. Hate that they've asked little girls to talk about how they've a 20% chance of being raped. Hate that the message is one that most people already know, it's not ground breaking information. Hate that it's designed to sell t-shirts. Hate that you can't dislike it without being accused of pearl-clutching or not caring about women's issues. Hate it.

hellohelloididntseeyouthere · 23/10/2014 21:13

It's fucking horrible

Everyotherfreckle · 23/10/2014 21:21

What the fuuuuuuck did I just watch?

It's not even the swearing that bothers me as such as much as the little girls talking about rape and sexual assault? I thought most 6 year olds didn't even really know exactly what sex is, let alone what the fucking word 'rape' means and the likelihood of it happening to them?! I mean yes, we tell kids from an early age that their privates are private etc, but rape?

Am I supposed to be teaching my DD about what rape is when she is 6? Christ!

Unless they don't know what they are talking about, and then obviously its just exploitation.

I don't get it.

Nerf · 23/10/2014 21:23

Everything Leeds said really. It's a 'no shit Sherlock' message, very vacuous and meant to appeal to people who think Russell Brand is a genius.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 23/10/2014 21:36

Just because something is watched and discussed does not in any way make it a success.

The real issues are totally loft here as the children are totally bring used and I would argue abused.

And it's not even supposed to be ironic. Epic fail and totally distasteful.

funkybuddah · 23/10/2014 21:45

Bod
I wrote irrelevant as in thats not what I was referring to in my post, I was only referring to kids swearing vs the content of what they were saying. I initially thought it was for a charity/awareness organisation. My post was just to say that swearing is just language but the discussions about who they were used by is a whole other debate.

Sadly what they say is right but for profit? Not keen

I do think that a few of those girls were older than they looked, certain shots of them look very different.

sickntiredtoo · 23/10/2014 23:18

It is vile. The words are not the children's own , it is a script written by adults and therefore they are being exploited.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 23/10/2014 23:25

Yeah the whole 'well we are talking about it' argument is bullshit.

It paints feminism in a bad light.

patronisingbitchinthewardrobe · 23/10/2014 23:33

The little girls are being used. By people purporting to be feminists.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 23/10/2014 23:37

I wanted to hate it, but it's actually quite clever.

Can't decide if it would be better still if the girls were slightly older, slightly less drama school.

Although you might then have to change to a different kind of pretty dress.

Username12345 · 23/10/2014 23:41

Horrible.

Couldn't even watch it all.
