...but be honest, were any of you a liiittle bit disappointed with yours?

For friends' weddings we always give 100 and a nice card. I will always suppliment this with a nice box of chocolates/wine or something.

Got married a month ago and several friends didnt even bother to bring a card.

Tinkerball I think you were stingy. There, I've said it. You could afford a holiday but not even a tenner for a box of chocs, or a voucher for somewhere.

I cannot even comprehend turning up a wedding without even a small gift.

Sorry to pile in tinkerball but I thought exactly the same. Even a small gift from the place you holidayed would have been a gesture.

I don't think YABU. I would take a card & if hard-up like I am now, would take a small ,thoughtful gift.
A friend recently had a baby, (soooo beautiful!) So, I crocheted a blanket & took that.
As you imply, op, "it's the thought that counts!"

Of course you should give a card. Card factory sell them for about 30p.
I'm in 2 minds about presents really. Most people already have enough stuff, household essentials can be bought really cheaply anyway and I don't get the point of giving or having things just for the sake of it, especially if the guest has spent a lot of money just to attend.
As to the op, was I disappointed with mine? Not really. I was married in 1987, we didn't have a gift list and to be honest some of the gifts were quite bizarre, but that's life really.
