to think that you can't block someone's driveway?

Apologies, it's a parking one!

Just about to go to bed & looked out the front window to see a car parked completely across the dropped curb of our driveway blocking our car in. Not sure when it was parked there, must have been in the last 2 hours. Don't recognise the car, and it's a bit late to go knocking to see if the neighbours do!

DH leaves for work at 5:30am & is worried that if the car will still be there. We had this happen once before, but it was a much smaller car & luckily he managed to manoeuvre through the small gap that was left, but there would be no chance this time.

Would it be unreasonable to report it?

Well done for getting it towed away. I supported people parking in residential streets in another thread, but this is quite different and he was completely wrong - and rude too.

wink1970 · 22/10/2014 14:22

Excellent work OP. Do let us know if you get any more come-back.

We had a neighbour who blocked our drive intermittently, despite having a drive of her own; she was just lazy. After a while I started to just lean on the horn - at all times of day or night - until she moved it. Took about 5 goes.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/10/2014 14:23

Great thread.

Good outcome.

Well done Lola (and Mr Lola)

I used to have a house where the garage was in a block opposite the house. My garage was the middle of three and the two outer ones belonged to the houses either side. There was enough space for a couple of cars on the garage drive. I came home one Sunday afternoon to find a car parked on my garage drive pretty close up to the door. No idea who it belonged to, checked the neighbours either side and they didn't know either. So I parked my car up close behind it and went in doors.

No one came to ask me to let them out. I was still annoyed the next morning so I caught the bus to work. I did this for a couple of days but no one ever came and asked. The first time I moved my at the other one was gone when I came back! Never found out whose it was but it didn't happen again and I like to think the culprit was inconvenienced!

diddl · 22/10/2014 14:46

He sounds like the type who would never be wrong, doesn't he.

If I had dared to go back to the owners of the house of the drive I'd blocked it would have been in a "I'm ever so sorry, I think I parked across your drive. Do you happen to know where the car is?"

"What the fuck, I need my fucking car now"

what an aggressive arsehole!

QuillPen · 22/10/2014 14:54

Yay!!! What a satisfying thread :D

PrivateJourney · 22/10/2014 15:04

Ooh is it just me wondering if he was supposed to be with the lady down the road all night, as he didn't park at her house.....?

EmptyNestAgain · 22/10/2014 15:07

No, I was wondering that too, Private. Ooooh, intrigue!

AlpacaLypse · 22/10/2014 15:14

I'll put a fiver on him having an affair with the lady down the road... with a bit of luck his wife will want to know just why the car got towed and he'll be in the shit!

SWIMTHECHANNEL · 22/10/2014 15:25

IF SHE'S A MUMSNETTER - SHE KNOWS NOW!

Spadequeen · 22/10/2014 16:02

Excellent result! 'I need my fucking car now' brilliant!

Fluffyears · 22/10/2014 18:14

We have a designated space with our house number painted on it and a small number plate. People park in it a lot. I caught some buggers once as they returned to car and they said 'oh you weren't using it though!' Well that's kinda the point it's empty so I can put my vehicle back in it when I return. I own that space so I punted at my number and said 'get off my land!' Always wanted to say that (much
Glee)

HangingBasketCase · 22/10/2014 18:38

What a wanker. I'd have been tempted to look confused and say "what car?"

Fullpleatherjacket · 22/10/2014 18:46

We think he's having an affair?

That'll be why he calls it his 'fucking car' Grin

Excellent outcome, OP. Very satisfying.

giraffescantboogie · 22/10/2014 18:51

Not read thread yet - will in a min.

I saw this happen today! Came out of toddlers and a recovery vehicle thing was towing a car on to it and police car was there. 18month old is OBSESSED with neenaws so we watched and police man was lovely, chatting away to him and putting his lights on etc while the man towed car up. I wasn't sure what was happening and didn't ask but then a lady came out house and took her car out driveway and parked it on the road - she told me the car had been blocking her drive for 5 hours. She says it happens frequently on her street.

I did this once (unwittingly) when we lived in a road which Mon-Fri was full of commuters catching the bus into town. Which is fine by me if they don't block the drive. Those that did used to get a polite note under the windscreen the 1st time, 2nd time I'd call the council and they'd come round and give them a ticket. Seemed to help. Except one time my call to the council resulted in a tow truck removing said car. I watched, alarmed but secretly delighted from behind the curtains as the car was towed away. Never saw the driver and they never parked in front of our drive again!

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 22/10/2014 19:16

I wonder why he didn't just assume it had been stolen. Surely that's the first thing most car owners would think if they came back to NO car?

Funny that he came up your path and asked "Where's my car?" of a complete stranger....most people would say "Did you see someone drive a blue merc away sometime last night!!" all in a panic....

AnneElliott · 22/10/2014 19:19

We used to get this when we lived in a flat, even though it had our door number painted in it. We used to park behind them and block them in, and let them come to us.

Cheeky beggar to ask you where his car was! Shock

FishWithABicycle · 22/10/2014 20:26

Well done!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/10/2014 20:30

Ah yes minty - the SESRM was picking up from a school trip and very pg IIRC. So sent her sheepish DH to pick up the car.

TheDailyWail · 22/10/2014 20:39

I loved that thread! And this one too.
