to think that you can't block someone's driveway?

Apologies, it's a parking one!

Just about to go to bed & looked out the front window to see a car parked completely across the dropped curb of our driveway blocking our car in. Not sure when it was parked there, must have been in the last 2 hours. Don't recognise the car, and it's a bit late to go knocking to see if the neighbours do!

DH leaves for work at 5:30am & is worried that if the car will still be there. We had this happen once before, but it was a much smaller car & luckily he managed to manoeuvre through the small gap that was left, but there would be no chance this time.

Would it be unreasonable to report it?

Oh maybe he was a one night stand and he's had to go back to hers for refuge! HA HA! Serves him bloody right!

heh heh heh, stupid twat. Well done you!

BigglesFliesUndone · 22/10/2014 13:14

hahaha. Brilliant!

DadDadDad · 22/10/2014 13:14

Phew! Some closure (for those of us following on our screens at least; I hope it's the end of it for you too).

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 22/10/2014 13:16

"Car? what car?" would have been a fantastic response.

EmptyNestAgain · 22/10/2014 13:17

One persistent offender suggested that I just don't come home/leave the house at certain times

Only one response to that... Oh do fuck off, dear!

Bloody outrageous

EmptyNestAgain · 22/10/2014 13:19

Oh well done, OP. Perhaps he won't be such a knob next time.

MothershipG · 22/10/2014 13:22

My council definitely does issue parking tickets for parking in front of an empty drive way. My friend got one for just being over an edge, the driveway owner was still able to get on to her drive and my friend still got a ticket.

Stupidhead · 22/10/2014 13:27

Brilliant! Haha! Probably the most expensive shag he's ever had!

We had students blocking out drive once. XH had to leave for a flight at 5:00am, he rang their bell, no answer, banged on the door, no answer. Called the police who towed it away with a student in boxers chasing the truck. They never did it again.

FannyFifer · 22/10/2014 13:28

Brilliant, you handled him perfectly, cheeky sod!

riksti · 22/10/2014 13:28

Can I just ask where this rule of 'blocking a dropped kerb is only illegal when car is on the drive' is coming from? Highway Code 243 says 'DO NOT park in front of an entrance to a property', no mention of cars being parked on that property.

MokunMokun · 22/10/2014 13:33

Yay, nicely handled!

DancingLola · 22/10/2014 13:34

'Car, what car?' Was tempting, but he would have found out anyway when he tried to report it.

notapizzaeater · 22/10/2014 13:35

He'll not do it again will he !

NewEraNewMindset · 22/10/2014 13:36

Nicely done OP Grin

LurkingHusband · 22/10/2014 13:37

ritski

The Highway code isn't law.

I vaguely recall there being some sort of common law offence preventing access to the public highway, which is what blocking a dropped kerb with a car on the drive is doing. However there is no similar offence if someone is prevented from accessing private property.

I think it's "obstruction" ... I remember this delicious phrase about the right to "pass and repass" on the public highway ....

Stripylikeatiger · 22/10/2014 13:39

My ex once parked his car in front of someone's drive, apparently he didn't see it was a driveHmm he wasn't the brightest of men.

The owners of the drive needed to go to work at 3 in the morning so the police went round to my ex's parents house (it was their car, registered at their house) they told the police ex was staying with me that night at my mums house so the police came and knocked on the door at my mum's.

The police didn't even really tell ex off just told him to move the car. My parents and his parents were furious, we were teenagers at the time with teenage siblings so a call at 3/4 in the morning from uniformed police officers must have been terrifying for then! Poor people who owned the drive.

vienna1981 · 22/10/2014 13:41

I live in a block of flats with its own off-street car park with signs that clearly state in capital letters "PRIVATE PARKING. RESIDENTS ONLY". Crystal clear. One late night my neighbour drove back from an evening out to find our car park full with strangers' cars and his designated space occupied. It was late, he was somewhat displeased so he simply parked in front of the offending vehicle, completely blocking it in until he moved it the following morning. One pissed-off but educated motorist and one stubborn but spot-on correct neighbour.

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 22/10/2014 13:45

Ooh how satisfying that you got to deliver the news that his car was towed! What a plonker!

lem73 · 22/10/2014 13:49

Somebody actually parked on our drive on Sunday afternoon. We had to park on the street. My dh refused to do anything about it because he didn't want any problems with the neighbours. We never caught who it was as they left while we were eating dinner. I was furious at the nerves of the people who did it my husband thought I was worked up over nothing.Confused

Groovee · 22/10/2014 13:50

Haha would have loved to see his reaction to what car?

Wonder if he'll return.

livingzuid · 22/10/2014 13:50

Ah well done OP Smile we recently moved into a property with a drive and all I can say is are people blind? The amount of times we have been blocked, partly blocked, blatantly blocked (particularly by builders doing work in the vicinity) has made me rage. The latter of which told me I had enough room to get past so I told him fine if he also wanted all his building supplies destroyed by my attempts to park. He moved them quite quickly. I have run out in slippers and pj's to tell someone to move! What if dd got sick and had to go to hospital? What if I need midnight Ben and Jerry's? Don't block my f***g drive!

Thank you for rant!

Boysandme · 22/10/2014 14:10

Brilliant, how satisfying that was for you Grin

CruCru · 22/10/2014 14:15

Ah, good work.
