Alfie Boe has a lovely speaking voice, he could do it....hmmm

Bea · 19/10/2014 21:33

Oh good! It's not just me then! Can't stand her... soooo false... and then she reads out those cringeworthy letters saying.... " i love your show and your laugh is sooo infectious!" arrrggghhhhhhh!!!!!

and don't get me started on all the am drams phoning in!!!

Shame really as I like show toons!!!

NorahBone · 19/10/2014 21:35

Good job Elaine Paige is a big fan of Elaine Paige because she doesn't seem to be getting much support. I'm not keen on Terry Wogan- I always remember him smugly informing his audience that they didn't need to worry about global warming because it's a myth. Thanks Terry, feel a bit of a mug now for listening to all those scientists.

UrsulaBuffay · 19/10/2014 21:36

Totally agree I love the show but that fucking giggly squawk..!

joanofarchitrave · 19/10/2014 21:37

Mentioning NPH is a transparent excuse to post Grin

SanityClause · 19/10/2014 21:46

Couldn't agree more about Elaine. Fabulous music; beyond awful presenter!

I do like Simon Mayo, though. His show has so many interesting snippets, y'know, facts, as opposed to factoids? I like the way they discuss books they have actually read with the author, rather than the sycophantic suckery of the Steve Wright lot. I do like the confessions, too.

I can't bear that Jamie Lee Grace (is that her name) on Steve Wright with all her new agey pseudo science. And I can't stand Brian from Watford and the Old Woman. (Although, I haven't heard either of them for a while.)

Also, I can't stand that Maria on Graham Norton. There's a mysoginist, if ever I heard one! I like him, though.

Elaine Paige plays dreadful music. I can not stick her or that bloody programme.

I don't mind Terry Wogan that much. He'll never change after all this time. My major quibble with his programme is the tendency to feature the cast of the latest West End rehash of a forgotten film or band. Most of whom can't sing. I have to say Richard Madeley makes an excellent stand-in. His recent interviews with Level 42 and Jimmy Somerville were very entertaining.

I too got fed up with Sunday Love Songs after a few years. All the soppy correspondence makes me vomit.

Paul O'Grady and Michael Ball are pretty good. In fact MB does the mid-morning programme far better than Ken Bruce. Another very worthy stand-in.

Tony Blackburn makes me cringe. I like the music but not his dated, unfunny babble. Makes me shout at the radio.

Any, Elaine Paige and programme. If there is a God...

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 20/10/2014 19:41

Simon Mayo is as dull as paint. Sorry. Grin

Graham Norton is fab, Dermot plays good music. Love Paul o'Grady but the music on his show isn't my cup of tea

we really miss Alan Carr and Mel on Saturday nights. DH and I used to love that....

jellyandbeans · 20/10/2014 19:45

I forgot about Alan and Mel.. She spent the whole time laughing, they had great chemistry. It was good, why did radio two drop them?

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 20/10/2014 19:48

I think he quit - wanted his Saturday nights back.

Shakey1500 · 20/10/2014 19:49

I adore the music in the Elaine Paige show but can't abide her.

EP- Sooo (gurgle gurgle) Jane from Frodsham writes "Elaine, I LOVE your show and would sooo love to hear your dulcet tones singing a song from Sunset Boulevard...FAR superior to the Glenn Close twaddle" Well Jane (chortle chortle) FAR be it for me to deprive you of my amazing voice, so here I am murdering singing With One Look"

DETEST Steve Wright, love Graham Norton and Paul O' Grady and agree that Michael Ball should replace EP. Babs Windsor next wk?? Ye gads, her laugh is even worse.

I worked in the West End for many years, EP shall we say wasn't one of those performers who endear themselves to the crew. She was known, at least not I her face, as "the poisoned dwarf".

cerealqueen · 20/10/2014 20:57

Never liked her after he got all nasty about Susan Boyle because she was hogging the limelight doing what she did better and not being all lovey and entitled about it

Shakey1500 · 20/10/2014 21:05

Miz I've also heard that from a friend in the business.

Also recall her interviewing someone (who's name escapes me) on her show who'd just finished a run in a musical (aaannnd that name also escapes me). The show had recently finished it's run and Elaine laboured the point and threw this in for good measure (paraphrased)-

"And of course it's only ran for x amount of months which is considerably shorter than when I did it in 1927..." Shock

jellyandbeans · 21/10/2014 07:47

Shakey, 1927! So funny..only ever stood about 10 minutes of her show. She isnt popular at all if this thread is anything to go by. Caught a bit of Richard Madeley interviewing Level 42 ..' Are you touring again for the money' ? Pots and kettles with some of these celebs, made me whince...

londonrach · 21/10/2014 07:51

Radio not as good as it used to be in the olden days...... (Late 1980s early 1990s)

In the olden days there were loads of individual local radio stations...

CuttedUpPear · 21/10/2014 08:08

I miss Alan Carr and Mel as well! They were fantastic.

As for EP...Envy vomface.

She is saccharine and self serving, and as for the music...!
You would have to be a regular West End afficionado to appreciate any of it. Which most people aren't. The songs are basically non-sequiteurs, they don't make any sense out of context.
And they are bleary and droney.

BringMeTea · 21/10/2014 08:20

Yup. Cannot stand her. So insincere and in love with herself. Same goes for Steve egomaniac Wright. Chris Evans is intolerable with his clown horns (?) going off all the bleedin' time.

LOVE Graham. And Ken. Like Simon too. And Alex Lester.

MsVestibule · 21/10/2014 13:53

cutteduppear sorry, but I'm going to have to take serious issue with you about Alan Carr and Mel. I quite like Alan on the TV, and maybe he would have made an OK presenter by himself, but ye gods, paired up with Mel, they were DREADFUL!!! I'd actually forgotten all about them until you mentioned them - now I've just got Mel's inane giggling in my head Hmm.

curlyweasel · 21/10/2014 16:36

Urgh. That laugh. Horrid/fake/affected gargle that it is.

Agree about me, me, me Evans. Complete tool.

Ken Bruce probably has the best show/format (particularly Pop Master).

Liza Tarbuck's schtick getsh on my nervesh too dontcha know... (but I do like it when she winds up dogs with squeaky toys).

Alan and Mel were pure shite. I felt on edge after about 10 minutes of listening to them.
