To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

soapboxqueen · 19/10/2014 12:45

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

In my book, "infidelity" doesn't even begin to cover it. Such casual, careless actions and attitudes he displayed that night, and since, show someone who is totally amoral. He turned up at that hotel without a second thought, to have sex (and, in the event, rape someone) as was, in his view, his God-given right. It wasn't a "mistake," an "accident," a "lapse in judgement" or even "one of those things that just happened" that many people who are unfaithful claim. His girlfriend was of no consequence at all. He felt like a shag, and there was a handy receptacle (to him) there so he scratched the itch.
Attitudes like that don't change, regardless of what his autocue on the "personal and profound" (are they having a laugh?) video tells him. I would feel sorry for his girlfriend, but I'm afraid her recent actions lead me to believe that she deserves everything she's got coming to her if she stays with him.

AskBasil · 22/10/2014 20:32

The shamelessness and brass neck of the man gets more and more nauseating.

That video was fucking shameful.

He's still dangerous to the public, because he doesn't know that what he did was rape. Women are the public too.

chaya5738 · 22/10/2014 20:38

Great post clam. Yes, infidelity doesn't even begin to describe it.

YonicScrewdriver · 22/10/2014 20:42

I am so pissed off that the article uses "wrongly accused".

Was Oscar P "wrongly accused" of murder? No, he was found not guilty.

Ultomately CM summoned the man who did rape the victim whereas "wrongly accused" sounds so rape apologist.

AllYouNeedIsTea · 22/10/2014 20:46

I know Yonic. I hate that too. And the victim didn't even accuse him! She didn't run to the police to tell them she'd been raped by CM and CE. She had no idea what had happened to her that night. I can't imagine how she must have felt upon waking that morning.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 22/10/2014 20:48

Just a tangential musing.

He's been out of the game, and team training for some time.

Top level football is highly competitive. Is he actually still a good enought player? Might there be reasons to want to 'blame' someone for loss of career. Rather than face the fact that anyone who stops playing) for any reason) is actually quite unlikey to have an onwards playing career?

After all, he seems to make a lot of excuses for his actions. Why not try to shift responsibility for that part too?

chaya5738 · 22/10/2014 21:38

Well yes it is interesting how his plea that it has been a miscarriage of justice is mixed up with claims that he has been training hard in prison and keeping fit. Like it is all same-same.

purplefeathers · 22/10/2014 21:44

I think he hit the nail on the head when he said that playing professional football is a privilege. He was privileged to play. He abused his position. He used it to pick up women in clubs. He raped a young woman. He blew it. The opportunity shouldn't be open to him again.

Someone else upthread asked a good question. Are the football clubs so short of decent strikers that they need to employ a convicted rapist?

Darkesteyes · 22/10/2014 21:47

How much longer must his victim keep being put through this? He was CONVICTED. Hes a rapist. Its harassment of the victim and hounding her. Cant the police do something about it.

I cant stop thinking about what happened with that lady who went to that music school after she testified in court.

YonicScrewdriver · 22/10/2014 21:50

And ched's website tried to make a virtue of the fact they told the truth to the police about penetrating her even though neither of them came.

You don't get a cookie for not lying to the police, dickhead. Oh, and ejaculate isn't the only forensically testable item.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 22/10/2014 21:57

Yes, DE

RIP Frances Andrade Thanks

Andrewofgg · 22/10/2014 22:01

Darkesteyes As long as he does not name her - as long as he can get the publicity, I fear.

He really is shit, isn't he?

It's truly difficult for his blood-family. He's their kin and I can see why they stand by him. I see the same in the mags' court every time a man accused of DV and denying it, or pleading guilty and awaiting trial, is bailed to Mum's address. He's her son and she will do the best for him.

Not sure what I would do if it were the DS I have or the DB I don't.

YonicScrewdriver · 22/10/2014 22:02

That you, AF?

I don't think the Moral Maze should be debating a specific live case where the victim's rights to anonymity have already been breached twice. Don't they usually discuss past cases like the Hatfield train crash and corporate manslaughter?

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 22/10/2014 22:04

Oops, sorry yes, Hallowe'en namechange Halloween Smile

YonicScrewdriver · 22/10/2014 22:04

Andrew, it's one thing to still house your child, but to behave in public like they have, like the "cheating" is the only issue...

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 22/10/2014 22:07

The family have hounded and vilified the victim publically and repeatedly. They still have not stopped despite some being fined sums of money because of it. Even now, they add illegally-obtained video footage of her to that ridiculous sideshow that is "Ched's website"

That's a bit more than still loving your son despite what he has done

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 22/10/2014 22:07

Training in prison might maintains fitness levels, but it cannot be professional level team training, nor was he getting match experience.

I'm just catching the late news on SKY. They referred to him as 'Convicted rapist CE' and the headline bit (full item not on yet) said 'released a video in which he apologised to his girlfriend but not his victim'

chaya5738 · 22/10/2014 22:19

Awww, poor Ched. He is getting utterly slammed in the press. That video is appalling.

AskBasil · 22/10/2014 22:21

It's quite heartening that everyone is noticing that he hasn't apologised to his victim.

Think that might be the nail in the coffin of him being taken back by SUFC

Fingers crossed

HexBramble · 22/10/2014 22:23

I think I'd have difficulty standing by my rapist son and vouyerist (other) son tbh, not without dealing out a very harsh public statement of m own, in support of the victim. Tough love and all that...

chaya5738 · 22/10/2014 22:24

And fuck it subverts my feminist commitment to female solidarity to say this but his girlfriend looked so damn pathetic sitting there.

That girlfriend will look back on this in 10-20 years time and wonder "what the fuck was I thinking?". Imagine. Your biggest mistake plastered all over the media and in situ forever more. It puts my relationship fuckups into the absolute shade.

I was hoping that Ched's ego stroke in making the "personal and profound" video that we have all been waiting for agog will be a nail in his coffin. It has to be said he just looks really stupid. Not some Big Bad Wolf, just stupid.

Darkesteyes · 22/10/2014 22:34

Yes Frances Andrade. RIP Thanks

HexBramble · 22/10/2014 22:35

Pathetic at first glance yes, but I'd be hard pressed not to call her on her fucking disgraceful behaviour should I ever have the misfortune of meeting her.
