I do this when i walk to and from my little cleaning job. It makes me feel all warm inside!

Doesn't matter what people are doing, what they have on display etc, its better when they have lamps rather than lights and i love to see families sat with their dinners on their laps or kids playing on the floor in front of the fire. Or single folk sat with their lap-top and Wine or Brew.

I'm not being nosey, it just makes me feel nice

I'm a weirdo aren't i??? Blush

this is an absolutely gorgeous thread!

yes i do it and i always think that other peoples homes look cosier than mine

ViviPru · 15/10/2014 14:17

Two words = Big Light.

Shudder.

gymboywalton · 15/10/2014 14:27

yes the lamps are so much cosier aren't they? we also have fairy lights all year round but sometimes you do just have to have the big light on!

HannerHet · 15/10/2014 14:31

Oh yes I love this. Have you considered taking up horse riding OP? Perfect height to look through people's windows as you ride past! Grin I do this all the time! and quite often get a wave back

ThatBloodyWoman · 15/10/2014 14:33

I don't often go into a town after dark, but I absolutely relish the chance to do this.

JellyDiamonds · 15/10/2014 14:34

This has reminded me of something that happened the other week. I was walking home from a friends house at about 10pm, I have to pass a small block of flats on my way, and couldn't help but notice a woman stood stark bollock naked in her bedroom with the curtains wide open on the ground floor. It was obviously her bedroom and she had nets on the window, but the light was on meaning you could see straight in.

All I could think was "shut your curtains for gods sake! There's an off licence across the road!".

Mammanat222 · 15/10/2014 14:40

Love doing it but glad my place is top few floors and not on a road where double decker busses pass through!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/10/2014 14:45

Did you draw that Itsall?

God no! Its a painting by Avril Paton
www.avrilpaton.co.uk

She obviously enjoys a good window nosy too! Grin

motherinferior · 15/10/2014 14:48

Oh yes, I love a gawp. DD1 is the same. DP and DD2 are more decorous.

Aebj · 15/10/2014 14:57

I love looking through windows as I walk past but hate the thought of someone looking in my windows so I'm a real spoil sport and shut my blinds ASAP !!!! ( besides my house is untidy!!!)

mawbroon · 15/10/2014 15:00

Grin at "big light".

cheerupandhaveaglassofwine · 15/10/2014 15:02

Yep, just as nosey as everyone else and besides if the curtains are open its fair game

oldnewmummy · 15/10/2014 15:05

Ooh, you are a bad influence, itsall - I just bought a print.

Trudyla · 15/10/2014 15:05

I love doing that. Makes me feel all warm inside.

Funny story. When I first visited my now husband, then boyfriend, we took a walk and I told him (English is not my mother tongue) that I like to pee in other peoples' houses.

He looked at me in horror and I asked, don't you? Took us a while to work out that what I meant to say was peep Grin

ithoughtofitfirst · 15/10/2014 15:08

"Stick the big light on"

ThatBloodyWoman · 15/10/2014 15:26

(What do you call it if its not the big light ? Confused )

fizzymittens · 15/10/2014 15:28

Surely it's just 'the light'. The others would be lamps....

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 15/10/2014 15:31

DH and I are a right pair of looky-loos. It's lovely to see everyone warm and cosy indoors.

We returned the favour last autumn by buying a new house with big glass doors at the back, and no curtains or garden fence till almost Christmas.

It was a bit goldfish bowly for us, but a LOT of people got to see us eating our dinner in the dining room and sitting in front of the fire with the cats.... No big light here.

we have curtains now Grin

I got caught out once coming down before dawn to feed the cats in the nuddy and the automatic light pinging on in the pantry Shock

SpringHeeledJack · 15/10/2014 15:34

I love it, looking at all the nice cosy families and folk getting their tea ready

I'm like the Little Match Girl of Brockley, me

ithoughtofitfirst · 15/10/2014 15:34

"Stick the light on"

Naaaah

ViviPru · 15/10/2014 15:36

No big light here You can be my friend.

The Big Light debate.

And yes, LEM. I adore this time of year; I'm a proper SNOOP. Its glorious.

BeggingYourPardon · 15/10/2014 15:42

I have a huge 4ft tropical fish tank, it's next to the front window and I used to leave the curtains open at night so people could see it lit up. I spent hours on it arranging the plants and wood Blush and have 2 large angel fish amongst other little beasties in it. It looks lovely lit up and people stop to look at it.

So nice they don't notice the wallpaper partly ripped off by the bloody cats.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 15/10/2014 15:45

oho Vivi good thread!

off to read that now....

DadDadDad · 15/10/2014 15:48

Just curious, JellyDiamonds, can a woman be stark bollock naked? I always assumed that it was a term that by definition only applied to men.

LabradorMama · 15/10/2014 15:48

We live in an old house which has no front garden so people literally walk right past the window and they always have a good look in. It's a small village do we know everyone and everyone waves. Even when dp is sitting watching TV in his pants

We've been here a year now. I really must get some curtains.
