I do this when i walk to and from my little cleaning job. It makes me feel all warm inside!

Doesn't matter what people are doing, what they have on display etc, its better when they have lamps rather than lights and i love to see families sat with their dinners on their laps or kids playing on the floor in front of the fire. Or single folk sat with their lap-top and Wine or Brew.

I'm not being nosey, it just makes me feel nice

I'm a weirdo aren't i??? Blush

I love to do this too... it always looks so cosy :) The thing I always take away is that everyone's house is nicer than mine! Christmas time is absolutely beautiful... all the lights and the trees in the windows...

I just look as I walk past, I don't sit there with my face pressed against the window gurning at the occupants like a toddler at the monkey house.

MothershipG · 15/10/2014 18:40

A long time ago I was looking for the perfect colour to paint my living room and I saw it when looking into someone's house, I had to know what it was and where they'd got it, so I knocked on the door and asked! Grin

Coumarin · 15/10/2014 18:47

I think Mothership just won the peeper crown. Grin

TinklyLittleLaugh · 15/10/2014 19:25

I have just been reminded of a family holiday I went on as a teen. We were wandering around the town on the first evening, looking for somewhere to go for dinner. We stopped at a cosy looking cafe, and had a good gawp at the tasty looking food that the family with the window table were tucking into.

Until my Dad pointed out it was someone's house Grin

Laundryangel · 15/10/2014 20:03

I'm another one who does this. I also love walking along streets where there are houses with basements & you get these funny glimpses of life. In Marylebone on Friday evening, I glanced down through a basement window & saw a toddler whizz past on a ride on, followed by the legs of an older child carrying a bucket & then an adults legs charging after them.
When I lived in London, I lived in a ground floor flat on a busyish road with the living room at the front & considerately set the room up so the sofa was under the window meaning I didn't really mind if people looked in as I couldn't see them

Caboodle · 15/10/2014 20:03

Me and DH used to do this all the time on the way back from the pub. Street had a few houses and it seemed no-one drew their curtains. Lovely warm feelings all round.
My Great Auntie never closes her curtains...used to love walking home with then 2 DCs past her house in winter...just lovely.

duckbilled · 15/10/2014 20:16

I am another fan of creeping/peeping! I love a quick nosey into the way other people live as I stroll past. I wouldn't have my nose pressed up leaving steamy marks or anything, but I agree it makes me feel cosy and happy.

whois · 15/10/2014 20:20

I love it too! Something about people all warm and (I think) happy inside in the dark winter evenings which makes me feel happy.

MothershipG · 15/10/2014 20:52

Yeah! I win! Grin

It was Sugar Bag Blue, by that fancy paint company, I forget what they're called, I got Dulux to colour match a sample. I would be flattered if someone liked something of mine enough to ask.

carlywurly · 15/10/2014 20:56

Yanbu at all. We stayed in Kensington earlier this year and one of my favourite things was an early evening stroll around the posh streets glancing in windows. (This sounds bad written down Grin)

I remember seeing a stunning blonde model type lady with a gorgeous toddler and her home really looked like a white company ad come to life. I loved imagining her life. In a neighbouring house, someone was playing clarinet to concert standard. It was bloody idyllic.

If that was any of you Envy

quesadillas · 15/10/2014 20:57

I love looking through windows! The first time I went out in the evening after moving to our forever home was just brilliant. I particularly like it at Christmas. I wonder what kind of people live there. I hope they're happy.

jezzapaxmanslovechild · 15/10/2014 21:15

I love it when the nights draw in! I can be coming back from work or the shops and my eyes are drawn to it. It's just inexplicably comforting - a snapshot of people lying on the sofa, cooking a meal, bumbling about, or drawing their curtains (to block out the mad woman peering in) In return they get a snapshot of me doing the ironing and 'encouraging' ds2 with his homework... But just seeing people on a dark winters night all cosy and warm -ach I don't know why but I really like it?

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 15/10/2014 21:17

I love it. I particularly like seeing a lit up bedroom through closed curtains in the evenings. Make me imagine that people are warm and snuggly in their beds with a book and a cuppa.

Christmas Day is especially good for a good nose when it gets dark. We often go for a little walk at about 6pm, to burn off some of the excess food and perk ourselves back up for the evening indulgence. It's lovely seeing people and their own festive celebrations.

PBJellyBelly · 15/10/2014 21:20

Did anyone else Google sugar bag blue? Grin I love having a nosey into other people's houses. I can't help thinking the cosiest ones are always the ones with the most old fashioned interiors a bit like Grannys house

PerfectlyChaotic · 15/10/2014 21:32

We used to deliberately go for walks in the early evening for this very reason :) In fact it was the deciding factor in buying our house - it was just before Christmas & neighbours-to-be were all being suitably cosy and twinkly. I was delighted :)

MothershipG · 15/10/2014 21:38

D'oh! I didn't think of that PB, Farrow & Ball, Sugar Bag Light! Brings back memories of decorating my first place that was just mine, no need to compromise on decor. Smile

ScrambledEggAndToast · 15/10/2014 21:41

I can't believe the number of people who don't have blinds/nets. They just sit there in full view of people nosy parkers It's like being on Big Brother Grin

NerfHerder · 15/10/2014 21:41

YANBU- I love doing this. It's my favourite thing to do outdoors Blush
I often suggest to the children in December that we should go for a walk after school around the block to 'see the christmas lights'... but really I just want to nose at everyone else's decor!

I often think that if there were a magazine showing ordinary, real people's homes they would sell far more copies than all these refurbished, tricked-out to the nines show homes. Grin

Mrwillywonkasbitch · 15/10/2014 21:42

I'm guilty of having sex in the window, my neighbour didn't seem to mine he eventually came outside to get a better look haha

LEMmingaround · 15/10/2014 21:43

Grin at mickey flannigan peepee!!

If you are out peeping, are you out or does the peeping elevate it to being out out??

What a fabulous thread. I love this too. I might visit the beautiful town we moved from last year around Christmas, just to do this again too many tacky neon reindeer around here

CelibacyCakeAndElevatorMuzac · 15/10/2014 22:16

Every Christmas night, around 7pm, we take the dogs for a walk.

Our sole purpose is to look in people's windows and feel all cozy Grin

It's the only time I'm happy to have my curtains open at night as I like the idea of other people doing the same.

Any other time of year, curtains are drawn at dusk - ain't nobody peeping into my humble abode! (I reserve the right to thoroughly enjoy looking in other people's windows all year round)

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 15/10/2014 22:16

I love noseying in people's windows in the evening. I run, and when it's light I love running along the streets, looking in people's gardens and at their houses. At night I look into their windows as I pass. It's like a glimpse into another usually more affluent world.
