To want to tell this woman to fuck right off

I grant I am cold and wet and not in the best spirits. However I seem to have a habit of attracting annoying folk whilst going about my business.

Just now- standing at bus stop- no room in shelter so standing in rain. Check the bus times on my phone. An older lady eagerly catches my eye and asks when the 249 comes. I tell her it says 8 minutes. Then she says, what about the 432? I say it says two mins. Go back to listening to music on my phone. She catches my eye again- I stop music just so she can point out that it's been a "long two minutes", looking at me as if I have any control over the buses whatsoever. I check the times again- and tell her now the 249 says four minutes, the 432 says 11. She crossly tells me "so your information isn't infallible then?!". Well obviously not you stupid woman, have you never taken a bus in South London before? Instead I say "no- they often change". Then the 432 comes, she isn't paying attention. So I tap her and point out the bus. She snarls at me "well it's the 249 I really need". Then glares at me.

Honestly.

Why do I bother?!

Aermingers- I think that is about the extent of it!

That, and some people are just ODD.

aermingers You YOUNGIST!!

ChippingInLatteLover · 14/10/2014 22:54

grumpasaur it's unreal in here sometimes. You can't say Boo without being 'ghostist'.

Laquitar · 15/10/2014 00:31

Why did you have to mention that she was 20 something. Problem withyoung people? (hmm and grin)

Zucker · 15/10/2014 00:51

WTF? Do people have score cards to mark off how many things they could possible be offended at? Bet there's a facebook group they go to,to high five at being the most offended.

People are mad. not agist, racist, ghostist, lefthandedist or richist

Deathraystare · 15/10/2014 00:57

Ahhhh River Tam - you bring back fond memories to me of the many psychos on the 185 or 36 buses going along Vauxhall Bridge on their way to Peckham and Camblewell Green. The numbers of 'youths' and not so 'youths' who get rather offended when reminded to pay for their fare.

I also hate if anyone asks me what time the bus comes as even if it states 10 minutes, if it doesn't come you get the incredulous "I though you said it would come in 10 minutes, it is now 12 minutes, 30 seconds!!!

It is deliberate. Between me and Grampasaur we are f*ing up everyone's bus rides.

That's hilarious, as if you're controlling the bus with some jedi mind trick.

Deathraystare · 15/10/2014 01:59

Maybe I am, He he he!

Ir1na · 15/10/2014 03:09

Bloody hell aermingers, I'd have been scared. Didn't the staff do anything?

Wonc · 15/10/2014 03:36

This thread is unintentionally hilarious - all the PO gathered together to turn a perfectly normal thread about transport into the Festival of Whinge.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 15/10/2014 04:46

So. If the woman hadn't been older than grump she would have ignored her?
Im not "professionally offended". I think there was an element of casual ageism in the op.

I have to agree the woman seems to have been annoying. In which case i can totally understand the desire to tell her to fuck off.

BalloonSlayer · 15/10/2014 06:43

lol at "infallible" bus predictions.

You should have said "Actually it is because it's the Vatican's Bus App, so ner."

QuintessentiallyQS · 15/10/2014 06:51

It amuses me how "money" in Norwegian is Penge.

pearpotter · 15/10/2014 06:58

Most people who are grumpy and have an unreasonable go at people in the manner of the OP's example are old, in my experience. Not necessarily always in biological age, but in attitude. Mission in life to moan and spread misery.

pearpotter · 15/10/2014 07:03

She used a four syllable word! It must be a troll. No-one could have such a vocabulary. Oops.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 15/10/2014 07:04

dot matrix?? Okay, call me old, call me out of touch, but please explain. Are you saying you get updated times on when the bus is due at the stops? Seriously? Or am I misunderstanding...

In my neck of the woods, you know when the next bus is due when it drives around the corner and you say "oh there it is..." Grin

Jill2015 · 15/10/2014 07:49

I clearly wasn't staff, unless it's suddenly become common to go to work in your bra.

This is making me laugh. Bit chilly this time of year.
OP I've had similar experiences, at bus stops and elsewhere.
A woman grumped at me recently, in a shopping centre, when she asked me where the toilets were, and I told her. Seems they weren't where she WANTED them to be. Grin I didn't design the shopping centre...and it actually is well laid out.

GoWestcountry · 15/10/2014 09:10

vezzie I bet LOADS of people are tempted to take a shit in Foxtons!

pearpotter · 15/10/2014 10:29

One Foxtons I go past looks like a wine bar. The thing that draws your eye is the row of fridges filled with posh mineral water and the like. Never trust an estate agents like looks like a wine bar.

RiverTam · 15/10/2014 12:05

Deathraystare - when the ticket inspectors arrive at my station they are accompanied by at least double the number of police. I guess some Peckhamites can take exception when they are told that yes, you do need to buy a ticket before travelling and yes, you are now about to get slapped with a penalty fare.

Alice - indeed, there is now an indicator at the stop (or quite a lot of stops, perhaps not in the burbs) which tells you. When they took them all down a few weeks back to update something-or-other I was bereft. Bereft, I tell you.

TattyDevine · 15/10/2014 17:54

I can't believe posters are saying "mad" and "psychos" Shock

There are some serious mental-healthists on here

Grin
TattyDevine · 15/10/2014 17:55

Are we still allowed to say mental health? It has the word mental in it, which I find seriously offensive. I need to start a petition to have it renamed something but I can't think of anything that doesn't seriously offend me Sad

slithytove · 15/10/2014 19:08

Doesn't mental just refer to a part of us in the same way that physical does? Cerebral? What's the correct equivalent.

slithytove · 15/10/2014 19:10

Health of the mind

BurnThisDiscoDown · 15/10/2014 22:37

I got shouted at once on the train - the train turned up (about an hour after it was due). Man asked me if it stopped at X station. I said I think so, because it was on the list on the Telly screen thing. It didn't stop, presumably because it was so late, and he glared at me and shouted "you said it was stopping at X! What am I supposed to do now?!". I mumbled sorry (why?!) and he stropped off. I'm not sure why a) it was my fault it didn't stop, b) why he took my, a fellow commuter, word as gospel truth over the stops it was going to make, and c) why he didn't ask one of the multitude of Centro staff hanging around. Confused
