Tattoo artist made a mistake!

Lezprechaun · 08/10/2014 19:01

Ok posting here for the traffic as sobbing at the mistake made on my tattoo today.

I asked for a treble clef behind my ear, watched him draw it out and it was perfect, then he tattooed it and of course I can't see but have got home and looked at a photo and it's backwards!

It was perfect when he drew it so no idea how it's ended up backwards but I'm devastated, it's in such a visible location as well that it looks ridiculous.

What can I do? I can't see anyway of fixing it :(

Laser isn't as painful as it used to be you know OP. The tattoo isn't large....I'd get it removed myself. But especially if you can't think of anything good enought to cover it up with.

KoalaDownUnder · 10/10/2014 16:53

Huh?

A 'mirror image' means sonsthing is flipped around. An iPhone camera doesn't flip the image. It takes what your eye sees on the screen.

kelda · 10/10/2014 16:55

If the first tattoo was painful, so will be cover up tattoo.

I would get it lasered off.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 10/10/2014 16:56

Glad the tattooist will rectify it free of charge, if you get it covered up could you not ask for numbing gel? I know mine offered it if I found it to painfully of course it was additional charge of £5

No it's not a mirror image, when I first saw the photo I panicked and was hoping that myself but my partner has checked and it's definitely backwards.

I know the cover up will hurt but from what I gather the cover up will hurt a lot less than laser treatment so may be the lesser of two evils.

With regards to going somewhere else, that would be at my expense and he's willing to fix it or remove it for free so surely it makes sense to do that. Yeah he made a mistake but he's fixing it, I don't think that makes him a bad artist at all.

This is a silly question, but is it definitely backwards? I ask because, i have a feeling the front camera on an iphone takes a mirror image picture...?

Oh for goodness sake, that's more than a silly question.

The OP has said her partner has looked at it and so has the tattoo artist (who went on to apologise and offered to remove it for free) and both are saying it is backwards.

So yes it's definitely backwards.

Myhensareladies · 10/10/2014 17:05

Thanks for the update OP and glad he has accepted all responsibility and willing to sort it out for you.

mjmooseface · 10/10/2014 17:21

Just pretend it was your intention to have a backward treble clef and be happy with it :)

OwlCapone · 10/10/2014 18:15

Won't a cover up be bigger and uglier and not what you actually wanted?

I think I'd go for removal.

jackydanny · 10/10/2014 18:28

Laser not that bad.

I have had a fair bit for various reasons including tattoo removal.

EggsAreRound · 10/10/2014 18:28

She's a musician. No-one would believe that.

scarletforya · 10/10/2014 19:26

I'd definitely go for removal. Pain is temporary, ink is for life.

Laser removal is expensive, a cover up is cheap. So think hard before you accept.

nauticant · 10/10/2014 21:45

I'd choose removal (as much as it can be removed). I wouldn't accept it being removed by the place that had caused the fuck up. Then it would be finding out what the most effective removal technique is and a recommended practitioner nearby. Also, I'd be letting the tattooist know at a very early point that he was going to be footing the bill of removal being carried out by a third party. Chances are he'd refuse to pay of course.

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/10/2014 22:10

Not sure I'd let him loose on me again, in all honesty.

BonzoDooDah · 10/10/2014 22:34

I know it's probably best to get it removed as you and your friends will know it's wrong but how about making it look like it is backwards deliberately?
You could make a small score of music float away from the clef to the back of your head - so obviously mirrored too - but if you are clever you could make the music be something that is playable in both directions if you know what I mean. Or your favourite phrase drifting off into your hair?

kennyp · 10/10/2014 22:38

that's shocking that he did it backwards, but presumably he's not musically minded? i am no musician but musical and a backwards treble clef would irritate the shit out of me and it's a bloody tattoo (says me stating the obvious) (I have 4 and one of mine is crap so i can related).

i have no idea or suggestion at all but there are lots of good ideas here.

Lezprechaun · 10/10/2014 23:03

I might have a try at the laser removal and if I find it too painful go for the cover up then.

It's going to have to be with them though, there is no way I can afford to pay for it from somewhere else and I would have no justification in making them pay when they offer the service themselves.

WineWineWine · 10/10/2014 23:11

I would get it removed. A coverup will never be the design you wanted.
I couldn't pretend to like it if I didn't, and it is obvious to anyone with any musical knowledge. Why would anyone choose to have it done backwards?
By the sounds of it, it can be removed fairly easily.

Darkandstormynight · 10/10/2014 23:24

I like it too. I do think it adds interest. But I know it's not what you want or paid for.

Was also going to suggest having it done the correct way round behind the other ear, like the way earrings are usually a mirror image of each other! Trying to cover up could be a disaster, and tattoo removal can take years.

windchime · 11/10/2014 16:20

I am wondering why anyone would want to have their head tattooed anyway Confused

Nicknacky · 11/10/2014 16:24

How effective is removal? I hope you get it sorted op.

divingoffthebalcony · 11/10/2014 18:59

Tatto removal doesn't take years IIRC. It's a small tattoo and black pigment is supposedly the easiest colour to remove.
