Tattoo artist made a mistake!

Lezprechaun · 08/10/2014 19:01

Ok posting here for the traffic as sobbing at the mistake made on my tattoo today.

I asked for a treble clef behind my ear, watched him draw it out and it was perfect, then he tattooed it and of course I can't see but have got home and looked at a photo and it's backwards!

It was perfect when he drew it so no idea how it's ended up backwards but I'm devastated, it's in such a visible location as well that it looks ridiculous.

What can I do? I can't see anyway of fixing it :(

Oh OP, I'd be gutted, surprised some people can think it was your fault. I'd fucking lose it on the tattoo parlor, that's insane. You checked the design it's hardly your fault you can't see behind your own ear.

I quite like the designs some Mners have mentioned, I know it's not what you wanted but they really are quite pretty. The song bird is quite cool!

If you decide to have it removed make sure the tatoo parlor pay for it, let them know you will let everyone on FB and on all the review site know who they are if they don't (they should also refund you)

mags2024 · 09/10/2014 09:55

perhaps he was dyslexic!

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 09/10/2014 09:57

So he did it freehand? some good artsists can get away with it, like mine, i think he's doing mine freehand but a lot of trust needs to be built up with your artsist before that, he should have done the transfer, if you go in all guns blazing they'll probably tell you to get out, just be like "you've done it backwards what can i do?" they'll probably pay for free laser treatment and do it again for you, or they can make it into something else
good luck x

Sourpotato! Grin

That looks like a corset and nipple tassels! LOL LOL!

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 09/10/2014 10:10

Nooo! It doesn't Quint Done well it could work! Like the pic above!

sourpotato · 09/10/2014 10:10

Omg QS - I have now seen my design in a whole new (pervy) light! If you're into nipple tassles OP it could be a definite win, expressing 2 passions in one Grin

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 09/10/2014 10:12

OP do you like snails? That tattoo could be redone into a lovely snail. Colourful and fanciful one.

sourpotato · 09/10/2014 10:12

Though perhaps a better artist could make it look less...nipply... ?!

TSSDNCOP · 09/10/2014 10:13

Poor you. I agree about insisting on having it removed.

I fear any attempts to alter the design, or have more to balance the initial mistake will go the same way as Ross Geller's attempts to balance up his spray tan. You risk more backward treble clefs and you'll run out of ears.

Applefallingfromthetree2 · 09/10/2014 10:13

Wow! that songbird is absolutely lovely-and I don't even like tattoos!
Would it fit behind the ear though?

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 09/10/2014 10:16

Any decent tattoo artist can do a cover up on that OP. Why don't you go on Reddit where there are a million people who will help you. They have sub reddits for tattoos and I just bet the artists sub reddit would help you come up with a beautiful cover up design.

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 09/10/2014 10:22

Sorry, only just read the thread. I think it is such a rookie mistake and he needs to remove it. don't settle for shit. get him to remove it and go somewhere else!

CheeseandPickledOnion · 09/10/2014 10:40

At least it wasn't Alife... ;)

Myhensareladies · 09/10/2014 10:42

Have you had a reply yet OP?

ArabellaTarantella · 09/10/2014 11:19

Put a backwards crochet next to it and tell people to look at it from the other side of your neck!

Lezprechaun · 10/10/2014 16:14

The tattoo artist has seen it and is very apologetic and mortified!

He has offered to either cover it up for free, suggesting a completely new design would work better in that case, or laser it off, again for free.

I am leaning towards laser but then he said I need to really think about it because he is worried how I will cope with the pain of the laser as I found the tattoo very painful.

To those who asked yes I am up north, if you want I can PM you the name of the studio / artist to see if it's the one you're thinking of?

He really is a good artist, I know this paints him in a bad light but his work is amazing! It's a silly mistake to make but we've all done that I suppose. At least he is willing to fix it for me.

Still devastated and have learnt not to get any more visible tattoos now i know how hard it can be fix them if anything goes wrong.

This is a silly question, but is it definitely backwards? I ask because, i have a feeling the front camera on an iphone takes a mirror image picture...?

OwlCapone · 10/10/2014 16:30

i have a feeling the front camera on an iphone takes a mirror image picture...?

It doesn't.

hellsbellsmelons · 10/10/2014 16:31

What design is he suggesting will cover this up?
I'd want a nice picture before making a decision.
I'm glad he's admitted fault.

waithorse · 10/10/2014 16:40

Good luck. What an awful mistake. Sad

Mama1980 · 10/10/2014 16:43

Oh no I would be so upset. Glad he has admitted fault though.
I have a lot of tattoos, a work of warning re laser though. I am heavily scarred (following a series of major surgeries) and one of my tattoos was cut in half.
I had laser treatment to try to remove the remaining half, honestly it hurt far more than the tattoo, So much so that I changed my mind and decided to just have the design changed instead. It took some getting used to but I love it now. Mine was a plain black design and I was told it would take at least 6 sessions and the tattoo has to be completely healed and the sessions spaced out.

whois · 10/10/2014 16:50

i have a feeling the front camera on an iphone takes a mirror image picture...?

It doesn't

I am 99.9% sure the camera on the front of the iPhone ie the one by the screen DOES take a mirror image photo.

whois · 10/10/2014 16:50

It's so what you see on screen matches what you think you look like (i.e. In the mirror!)

whois · 10/10/2014 16:51

Oh no I'm wrong. It looks like a orrie, until the actual photo is taken. Then it flips to normal.

WeAreGroot · 10/10/2014 16:52

There's no way in hell I'd be letting someone who has made such a basic mistake with the transfer (not to mention doing a neck tattoo as a first and not bothering to make sure you were properly happy with it beforehand) loose on my skin again. If you want it covering I'd find someone else to do it regardless of how apologetic this guy is.

I'd also be interested to know which artist/studio it was in case it's anywhere near me.
