Can't warm to this one at all :-(

I have so much running through my head about this latest series...where to start.

  1. I've loved all of the 'new' Doctor's so far - they've all been different from each other (as it should be) and all brought new stuff to the show.

  2. I do miss MS, but then I still miss CE and DT too.

  3. I think PC is fantastic at everything he does - and this is no exception. He's the anti-MS/DT - which is what we needed. A mature Doctor, who isn't going to be kissing all the girls.

  4. Some of the episodes this series have been great (Listen and last weeks, for example) but wtf was the Robin Hood one all about? I cringed at how awful it was - and it was Mark Gatiss too! I expect soooooo much more from him but that came across as a real 'cba' episode.

My big problem (and I've picked up from here and elsewhere) - this series seems to be fast becoming The Clara Show. Too many stories where the Doctor either takes himself off (last night) or gets shoved to one side (Listen) while Clara makes the big decisions. The Doctor seems superfluous to requirements at times and I'm very uncomfortable with it. Ok, Mr Moffatt, you lurve Jenna Coleman, we get it - can we have our bloody Doctor back now please?

And that's not a dig at Jenna Coleman, I think she's a great actress but they need to get back on track soon!

Oh, and I love River Song too but only with MS's Doctor - sorry Blush

marymouse · 05/10/2014 11:45

yanbu, I can't watch pc. My ds agrees, loved the whole matt smith, with Amy and Rory

fancyanotherfez · 05/10/2014 11:55

I kind of miss him too (although I partly miss my 4 year old going to the shops in a dress shirt, bow tie and braces-hes too self conscious for that now :-) ) . I agree that most of the stories this series have been derivative of stories from the Smith\Tennant era. I love Steven Moffatt but if he can't come up with anything original he should give someone else a go. I think they have just made him too unsympathetic compared to Smith as well

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 05/10/2014 14:01

I don't understand PC as The Doctor. He seems to spout stream of consciousness which makes little sense, leaving me utterly confused, and thinking 'oh there's going to be a big reveal, it'll all make sense in a minute'... And then it still doesn't.

I agree with the whole contrived 'I don't get humans' thing - WTF? It's at best a thin joke, and I'm bored of it. At worst, it is simply mad - why would he forget everything he knows about one of the species he knows best in the Universe? It's like Tom Baker, on acid - and he irritates the living shit out of me, with his 'ooh, I'm SO INTERESTINGLY MAD' schtick.

It feels like they picked a 'big name' and forgot to do anything like think of plots or a story arc.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 05/10/2014 14:07

Love peter Capaldi though I did find last nights episode awfully patronizing.

Clara is great and I'm warming to Mr. Pink.

David Tennant was my Doctor though and I still mess him dreadfully.

I can't stand any aspect of Dr who now. I'm not sure what exactly it is that I don't like but I get bored and irritated watching it. The writing is horrible, and I don't think the cast fit together at all.

I keep trying to watch it thinking maybe it will be better this week. But no, it's just awful.

It's going to need a massive shake up before I will watch again.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 05/10/2014 14:23

Can't quite believe I'm saying this but, although I adored both CE and DT, from a distance I'm beginning to think nothing will ever be quite as satisfying (and ambitious) as the River / Silence story arc. And even though I never seemed to find anything worthwhile in Amy I will never stop thinking about "The Girl Who Waited." It was magnificent.

I miss RTD a bit. But not the Slitheens.

waithorse · 05/10/2014 14:26

I love River, hope she comes back. Really miss MS. Still waiting for PC to grow on me. Sad

QuintessentiallyQS · 05/10/2014 14:27

Don't like it anymore. Not keen on capaldi. We have stopped watching.

We are instead watching Star Trek voyager. Hmmm. Much better use of our time.

whatsinaname01 · 05/10/2014 14:33

Got to be David Tennent as the Doctor- brill in every way. Companion - Donna Noble aka Catherine Tate. Fab Fab Fab GrinGrinGrin

"this series seems to be fast becoming The Clara Show"

That was a description that I used last night :) I'm pleased that its not just me seeing it like this.

Agree that it's becoming the Clara show and I really really hope she's going to leave soon... I love Capaldi as the Doctor but the stories have been a bit crap this series. I much prefer my Doctors dark, Matt Smith was just too bouncy and irritating. Whenever he tried to do dark it was as convincing as when English students discover critical theory and become self-absorbed and mopey and do whatever the modern day equivalent is of reading Jilly Cooper wrapped in the dust jacket of Barthes

TeaAfficionado · 05/10/2014 16:58

I feel like Capaldi could be brilliant - but any time we're getting close, we're suddenly back to focusing on Clara.

When she started I thought she was a good assistant, but now I can't wait for her to be gone.

gordyslovesheep · 05/10/2014 17:04

I'm enjoying it - it's change - change is always a bit odd and unsettling but he is growing on me massively

I like that he's more alien and less human - he's no longer so reliable and such an all round good guy - I'm not sure the Doctor was supposed to be like that anyway

I liked MS as well - he was fun and I enjoyed watching him - but PC has gone back to being much more alien, arrogant, impatient and dispassionate which is good

some of the writing has been a bit ho hum but I am not as irritated by Clara as I was either - I like that she reflects some of his lost 'humanity' but I wish she'd stop slapping people

mateysmum · 05/10/2014 17:13

Still making my mind up about PC, but definitely not missing Matt Smith. Hated him, perhaps because I lurved Mr Tennant soooo much and partly because I couldn't stand the immensely irritating Melody Pond or whatever her name was. I think Clara's OK. She's growing on me.

NotDavidTennant · 05/10/2014 17:22

I've enjoyed PC so far. But then I liked the Robin Hood episode, and I liked River Song, so maybe my judgement is suspect.

I do think the stories this series have mostly been stinkers though.

GatoradeMeBitch · 05/10/2014 17:31

YABU! I stopped watching the Matt Smith episodes. I could see what he was trying to do with the part, but he just came across as very drama student to me. I'm loving Peter Capaldi in the role. He is an excellent actor. I'm just still finding the scripts and direction a bit silly. I would love the BBC to hand the show over to Neil Gaiman.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 05/10/2014 17:36

Matt Smith was the best of the modern docs, but YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU!!!!

PC is BRILLIANT!

JUst cos hes not youthful and wrinkle free, nor was the 1st doc but everyone loved him!

hes an ALIEN, not a spiv in a pinstripe a - la tenant.

stories are better, hes a great actor, oh we luffs PC here! Tardis

AnyoneForTARDIS · 05/10/2014 17:37

BTW when Matt Smith was Doc everyone (not whovian!) was saying they missed Tennant, so what now?

gordyslovesheep · 05/10/2014 17:40

I wasn't Grin I warmed to MS very quickly Wink

FyreFly · 05/10/2014 17:41

I do love a bit of Matt Smith Grin

River Song can go take a running jump. Into a blackhole.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 05/10/2014 17:47

I just can't warm to PC, either Sad Last night's episode was crap.
Clara and the Dr obviously don't like each other, it is so unbelievable that "they went to have dinner in Berlin" together.

I want MS back. Or DT.

hiimangelafernandez · 05/10/2014 17:54

I've stopped watching this series, don't like PC, used to like Clara when she was with MS, but even she is terrible now.
Scripts are rubbish, I hated river bloody song, but the bad wolf bay arc was amazing, can't see anything like that happening again.
I liked CE, DT and MS, even liked all the assistants except Martha I might start watching old eps on a Sat night so I still have something to look forward too!
