To ask how to pronounce croissant without sounding like a twat?

So how do you do it?
I know how to say it properly as I speak reasonable French but I wonder if I sound like a pretentious twat. With close friends and family I get round it by doing it in an over exaggerated ironic way but how would I order one when out or how would I offer one to a casual acquaintance?
And as for Pain au Chocolat - I daren't even go there!!

My BIL twat sat in a restaurant and insisted the at Cotes du Rhone wine is pronounced Cot-es do roan and nobody apart from him can say it properly.

Lah-tay gives me shivers, so do cuppa-chino, foca-sia and valpoli-sella. No, no and no. Don't people ever watch Italian movies? :)
Also a British use of the word "latte" as milky coffee doesn't make much sense, it should be a caffe latte. Never mind.

Croissant is not a problem, though my little man insists on calling it a kassan.

This thread makes me chuckle. Reminds me of an incident years ago at a place where I worked. We had a 17 year old Australian girl doing a placement in the office. One lunchtime time she asked myself and my colleagues if we fancied going to ' man get out' for lunch. We could not figure out where she meant so asked here again and she replied (in a very strong australian twang) "that deli down the road - you know 'man get out'". After much confusion turned out she meant 'mange tout'
Other funny thing I heard recently in my local park was a mum shouting to her daughter (in a broad manc accent) "ava, come and get your gilet on", pronouncing the 'g' as in 'gorilla' and pronouncing the 't' at the end. She kept saying it over and over - so funny.

Throwing a spanner in the works, DP always says "choc au pan" which causes great confusion. Confused

sass I think posting pictures of French pastries is against the rules Wink

This thread has done nothing but feed my desire for beignet and churros and foreign travel.
