AIBU to wear black tights with unshaven legs?

Okay so I only shave my legs every two weeks or so because they aren't really particularly hairy, but still if they were bare you'd be able to see they were a bit fuzzy.

Anyways, for years and years I've always assumed that if you wear black tights you wouldn't be able to see anything at all so have always done so.

Friend has just piped up that this isn't the case and she can always tell! Please someone say it ain't so, or I've been making this faux pas for a loooong time.

This is the done thing isn't it? I thought it was the whole point of black tights! Can't say I've ever noticed on someone else and can't really see on myself, but am cringing at the thought of my legs in silhouette looking like a cactus! Argh!

If you mean opaques, then I don't think anyone would be able to see anything. If you're talking 10 denier, then your friend may have a point!

What type of tights are they? Are they those really sheer ones that shouldn't be worn as pants? Then I would agree with your friend. But if it's normal thickish ones it's fine.

OP, do you know that if you put your sunglasses on and start pulling faces at people no-one will know? Same with black tights. It's your secret.

I've always worn black tights to cover up the fact I can't be bothered don't have time to shave my legs
If one of my friends had said she could tell if a tights-wearer hadn't shaved, I'd probably ask (in the spirit of mischief) why she had such an interest in other women's legs...

I think everyone does it, unless you can see the hairs coming through the tights (and even then, no-one else is going to be close enough to notice when you're out and about), I doubt anyone will notice. :)

The question is, who on earth cares whether or not someone has shaved their legs, especially when they're wearing tights?

Unless they are poking though, in which case the hair must be very course- I think she's havning you on. Safely wear your tights and hair legs!

It's one of the many things I love about winter. Not having to shave my legs.

Why not ask her what the problem is, as hair growth is natural on adult females?

I know, it is a social conditioning thing. I have a tendency not to shave regularly, and do tend to wear trousers. If wearing thinnish tights I would probably feel I should shave, but fully acknowledge that is because society has conditioned me to think that. With opaques, I wouldn't bother. I tend not to worry that lots of people will be staring intently at my legs.

And if she notices - so what? Sounds like she has a bit of a leg obsession.

Opaques were designed so that women didn't have to shave their legs 365 days of the year.

YANBU you can wear what you like and shave as (in) frequently as you choose but I'm sorry to saythat stubble does poke through opaques. . My fair hair glinting in the light against black tights us particularly attractive!

My leg hair is fine and fair and I have seen it poking through opaque tights when it has been quite long. Probably ok with 2 weeks growth though.

My hair pokes through black tights if I don't shave. I think it's quite obvious. I think you'd have noticed if yours was obvious though. I'm pretty hairy!

YA sooooo NBU - black tights in winter are my excuse to not shave my legs. Unless someone is close enough to see hairs poking through - unlikely and anyway they're way too close in that case - there's no way anyone can tell.

Not sure what the denier is, there're not the almost legging type but certainly not the almost see through sort either.

Phew glad it's the done thing, especially as I'm going out in a bit wearing said tights! There isn't a man in my life at the moment so shaving is a long way down on my to do list!

You can see. Leg hair does poke through the fabric even 80 denier but it doesn't matter and people will only see if they are staring at you legs and the lighting is right.

I wear tights with hairy legs all the time.

Well I've been bending my knees to inspect and looking side on in the mirror and I can't see anything.

I guess I've gone this long doing it I'd just as well carry on!

If I had legs as hairy as dh's then I probably wouldn't wear tights, but tbh I don't think I care enough weather anyone else can see a few fine hairs through my tights or not.

I've recently given up shaving above the knee completely, even when wearing a swimming costume and the earth is still rotating.

It's quite liberating. Just imagine how carefree I'll be when I stop caring completely about my body hair!
