to not want my kid to go to a mosque ...again!

We live in North Yorkshire and every year the village Cof E school run a whole-school trip to Bradford.First they went to a mosque, then the following year a Gurdwara and then a Hindu temple, and now this year back to a mosque again.They do that in the morning, then have lunch and a run around in a park, and then in the afternoon a quick visit to 'Bombay Stores' and then back home for school pick up. DD and her friends don't want to go ( they went in Y2) and I resent having to pay £13 for each of my 2 kids at the school.Whaty is the point of going to the same place again, and do the school get 'Brownie Points' for doing this sort of RE trip.

Then keep them home that day. Twice in four years though, not like its excessive.....

I'd say good on the C of E school for broadening the children's understanding that there isn't just one faith. Which is something my kids' C of E school is spectacularly bad at. I'd love it if they were taken to a mosque instead of to the bloody church twice every term.

And no, the schools don't get 'brownie points' - not quite sure what you're implying by this.

Ask if they can go to a synagogue instead if more variety and diversity is the issue.

Their age will get them different things each time they go, just like visiting a museum or a gallery.

The experience when you're 5 isn't the same when you're 9.

You sound prejudiced.

I'm surprised you can't see how ridiculous you sound - do you prevent them going to church at Christmas because they went at Easter?

Believe it or not you don't get "brownie" points for not being prejudice and going outside your bubble to learn about culture around you. That's baseline behavior that's expected of any decent human being.

It's a good thing they're learning about different religions. Not to be cheesy, but these kids are the future and I fail to see how learning about other cultures and religion is a bad thing. They all have to exist together when they're older, teach them understanding and tolerance while they're young.

You do sound prejudiced, under the veneer of 'I don't want them to have the same trip again'. Keep them at home if you're not happy, but I also think it's a good initiative. Or suggest other religious spaces that could be investigated in future - synagogues? Buddhist centres? Jain temples?

I think repeating visits seems very strange. I suspect schools get "politically correct" points from OFSTED. Either that or the school has zero imagination.

Wow, once a year they go to a place of worship which isn't Christian. How unreasonable of them. Hmm

Three years on, maybe she'll pick up some slightly different understanding about Islam from a visit to the mosque as she did at age 5?

You send them to a CofE School every day, so a trip to a mosque every few years is hardly excessive.

we've done the same museum visit twice over the years and no-one minds

plus- I bet your kids would rather go with the rest of the school and have a fun day out rather than sit in an empty classroom all day

I suggest you go and look at the Ofsted framework for inspection of schools to see how utterly ridiculous that comment is. Are you a UKIP member by any chance?

Given the amount of anti-Muslim prejudice around, I think a repeat visit to a mosque in - gasp - four years is a rather good thing. And since a quarter of the population of Bradford is Muslim, according to the 2011 census, it seems even more appropriate for the nearby children to realise that Muslims are, well, normal.

Sounds like a lovely day out, actually.

They most likely will get points. Remember that school that was criticised by OFSTED in Devon for not being multi-cultural enough, so my comment is not "utterly ridiculous". And you are very rude.

I wouldn't be bothered about the mosque. I would be annoyed about 13 for an educational trip. That should be coming out of school funds, not parents purses.

You don't get 'points' from Ofsted for anything. Among many other things, Ofsted looks to see that you're delivering the curriculum effectively. RE syllabuses are set locally so it is possible that in this area of north Yorkshire the RE syllabus puts an emphasis on children being given the opportunity to visit different places of worship - I don't know as I don't live there. But all the same, no points are scored for anything.

I've not heard about the school in Devon that wasn't 'multi-cultural enough', although I'm not sure how you can make a school multi-cultural if there aren't people from different minorities living in an area. So I suspect that isn't the full story.
