I struggle in the morning. At night I run a bath, soak for a while then have a full body wash and shampoo and condition hair, blow dry it then sleep.

Morning I brush teeth, use a facial wipe for face and straighten hair.

have been told in general conversation eww that's gross, yuck I have to have a shower and do I not feel dirty.

Why would I feel dirty, my beds clean!

AIBU?

Yabu but then I have already showered twice today and will bath tonight too.

yanbu. I was told by by my gp that most skin probldmscare caused by washinv too much.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/10/2014 12:08

I need a programmable bath. How amazing is that? To have a bath which is exactly at the right temp would be amazing.

MaidOfStars · 01/10/2014 12:26

I have a bath or shower every evening. Occasionally, I will shower in the morning, if I feel I particularly need it, or if there are plans to go out after work etc. My husband has the same routine. As far as he goes, he has lovely skin, never smells (in ten years, I have only once noticed a bit of a niff in his pits). I feel clean and happy in my skin. I don't panic about a light sweat; it doesn't make me feel rank.

I prefer baths and feel cleaner. For example, I can scrub in between every toe with lovely salt scrub.

I can't bear the thought of sleeping on a pillow with dirty hair, night after night.

Sallystyle · 01/10/2014 12:34

I have baths in the evening.

Hate showers.

Sallystyle · 01/10/2014 12:35

Oh I don't have a bath every evening and when I don't I was my armpits and down below with a flannel and soapy water.

FyreFly · 01/10/2014 12:36

Everyone always comments on how lovely and soft my skin is and asks what moisturiser I use.

I don't use any. I just shower and wash hair "only" every other day (assuming normal regular activity i.e. no sex and no strenuous exercise and usual UK moderate tempertures. If it's hot or I've been physically working hard I change my routine) and therefore my skin doesn't get dessicated and stripped of its natural oils on a regular basis.

I've only ever had compliments about my skin. Certainly no complaints about smell.

Ironically my hair looks terrible the day I wash it. All dry and frizzy (even with conditioner). The day after it's brilliant! Shiny and lovely as the oils have had time to come back.

Washing really dries me out. I had a shower this morning and my hands still feel horrible and dry. It'll go in a couple of hours but in the meantime it's so annoying! I haven't been diagnosed with any skin conditions, I think it's just sensitive.

I very rarely come across any smelly people - I think most people know how much washing their body needs and adjust accordingly. I doubt that most people I meet have two showers a day. So far I haven't been overpowered by any nasty whiffs!

Reminds me of Chandler in Friends re baths:

"What are you doing in there, just stewing in your own filth?"

Lady luck10 I shower every morning, but my children were only having a bath in the evening!.....lots of people on here only washing once a week so don't Confused at me!!

wafflyversatile · 01/10/2014 12:55

Seriously, who wakes up fragrant hmm, fairies?

I wake up fragrant. I smell of human.

nic013 · 01/10/2014 13:05

You are not being unreasonable, OP, and they shouldnt have said that to you. it sounds like they said it to make themselves feel better and would have done the same thing if a different topic was being disscussed. It's their problem not yours.

If I'm at work, or going out somewhere I will normally have a bath (shower not working at the moment) before I leave the house. If I'm staying at home all day doing nothing, I can't be bothered but I would probably have a bath the next day.

I'm old enough to work out if I need to clean myself or not.

I am sometimes ridiculed for not wearing makeup or having a skincare routine.
Not everyone can/wants to live up to the impossibly high standards set by the media for women.

Sweat two pints a night? Don't be so bloody daft, you'd die of dehydration or drown in your bed.
Fecking ridiculous.
People don't half talk shite on here, and some have insane standards of what constitutes clean.

zukiecat · 01/10/2014 15:03

YANBU

I hate, loathe and detest showers so I never have one, and I only have a bath a couple of times a week, less sometimes if I can't afford to put money on the gas meter. On those occasions I boil a kettle for hot water and wash the important bits. I'm not smelly or unclean and I only use my shower to wash my hair (I lean over the bath and do it that way)

MissBlennerhasset · 01/10/2014 15:40

The amount we are washing ourselves is contributing to illness - do a bit of reading up on the overuse of triclosan ...

I find the obsession with cleanliness on MN crazy, I know it's not a homogenous mass of posters but it does seem to lean towards the obsessive side. There was a thread the other week where people admitted they didn't put their worn clothes next to their clean clothes in the wardrobe! It makes me a bit ashamed of the western world.

picnicbasketcase · 01/10/2014 15:52

This 'two pints of sweat' thing seems to have caught people's imaginations in a big way, despite being ridiculous if you stop just for a second and think logically Grin

Mammanat222 · 01/10/2014 15:52

We only have a bath in our place (God I fucking hate baths now) but in the summer I have 2 most days as I generally feel sweaty and icky, in winter one bath a day is fine.

Orangeanddemons · 01/10/2014 17:40

I don't get showers at all. I just cannot be arsed standing up to wash. I want to sit down to do it. I've always always been like this, and cannot understand why anyone would want to stand up to get clean

Bulbasaur · 01/10/2014 17:44

I love morning showers.

My hair is baby fine and goes flat after a night's rest, so evening showers would be out of the question.

I do take two showers a day if I've been exercising, swimming, or sweating that day so I don't take that crap in bed with me.

combust22 · 01/10/2014 17:46

orange- showers are quick. You can have a shower and be dry and dressed again before you have time to run a bath.

You could argue they are cleaner- and a better place to wash your hair- especially if you like to use bath products/shave in the bath.

Orangeanddemons · 01/10/2014 17:57

I know they are quick, and probably cleaner than baths. But I just want to sit down.

DanyStormborn · 01/10/2014 18:20

I usually shower every morning but if I showered the evening before for example before a night out I would skip the next morning's shower. I'm still nice and clean and less than 24 hours since my last full wash :) I'll admit I don't use the same rule for an evening bath but I don't have a proper wash in them just a relaxing soak. It sounds like you do have a proper wash in the bath though so I think you are good to go in the morning.
