To not want to receive texts at this time of night?

MrsWinnibago · 26/09/2014 21:54

I just got two random chatty texts from my bored but nice neighbour. She tends to share stupid pictures etc.

It's ten to ten! I want to be left alone. Do you text people this late?

Yeah, anytime until 10 I think is fine. If you don't want to hear it, why not just put it on silent?

SailorEverRose · 26/09/2014 21:56

It's not late. It's Friday night.

It's a text not a call. YABU.

ithoughtofitfirst · 26/09/2014 21:57

Respond: LEAVE ME ALONE WOMAN

Grin

Not really.

Fluffyears · 26/09/2014 21:58

Mil decides 1 am is fine to call on a weeknight when we both get up at 6 for workAngry

CatKisser · 26/09/2014 21:58

Aw come on. It's not that late for a Friday. She might be angling for a chat and a glass of wine or something?

Nomama · 26/09/2014 21:59

I wouldn't know if I had or not. My phone is somewhere else, as usual.

I have spoken to DH, sister and parents will ring the house phone, so I don't bother with it. Just stick it on charge as far away from me as possible.

MrsWinnibago · 26/09/2014 21:59

I've ignored it. I'll respond in the morning. I find it intrusive. I suppose I could turn the phone off but DH has gone out and for some reason I thought he might cal to say he'd forgotten his keys!

It's rare that I'm totally alone and I want to stay that way! No BBZZZ "lOOK AT THIS CAT" texts.

feckitall · 26/09/2014 22:00

DIL anytime of night calls and/or texts about how awful my DS is and demanding I 'sort him out'!
Hmm

MrsWinnibago · 26/09/2014 22:00

Cat surely not? at ten to ten!? People are already doing what they're doing by then! I am anyway.

I put mine on Do Nof Disturb from 10pm.

WookieCookiee · 26/09/2014 22:04

But you're posting on mumsnet. Which is a teensy little bit like texting.... Just to total strangers....

StormyBrid · 26/09/2014 22:06

Only opened the thread to see if you're my friend whom I just texted, but you're not. Phew!

Normally I don't text anyone this late, but that's because normally I'm in bed by ten. And I only text people when I know they're likely to be awake. And I was right, cos my friend just texted back and confirmed drinks on Sunday. Huzzah!

CatKisser · 26/09/2014 22:07

Well who knows, Mrs but while idiotic texts are..well..idiotic, they don't do any harm, do they?

I have no friends nearby these days but when I lived in the city centre I used to love the odd late night text saying "Pub NOW" and thinking "sod it, why not."

Do you think she's lonely or just sending inane texts to everyone?

skylark2 · 26/09/2014 22:08

Surely your phone has an off button?

I couldn't tell you whether I receive texts at this time of night or not. Anyone who needs to contact me urgently has the home phone number.

grumpasaur · 26/09/2014 22:10

I text at all hours...I just assume people turn their phones on silent when they are not available...mine is always on silent! Maybe I should reconsider this practice, thinking of it.

Smilesandpiles · 26/09/2014 22:10

My phone is on silent...somewhere....I haven't seen it for a few days....meh.

Monmouth · 26/09/2014 22:12

Your phone is not the boss of you. Ignore if not important.

hormonalandneedingcheese · 26/09/2014 22:12

It's ten to ten, not ten to twelve! If it was a call I'd say yanbu because they want your attention there and then and are expecting interaction. A text can be replied to now or in the morning, no pressure, not intrusive- yabu, it's not late at all.

Just ignore, have a bath and shit loads of wine and cheese and ignore until tomorrow.

BIWI · 26/09/2014 22:13

Yes, YABU! Ten to ten isn't late.

But, if you don't want to be disturbed 'this late', then turn your phone off.

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 26/09/2014 22:14

Do you text people this late?

Do you have curfew for texting? I text people whenever I need to otherwise I'd forget what I need to tell them. If you don't want to receive texts at midnight then don't have your phone near you. Simple!

However, it's a Friday so tonight YABU.

Clash1001 · 26/09/2014 22:16

Oh god, I send texts at all hours of the day depending on sobriety or not as the case may be

It seems to be pretty much the norm with my lot. My DM sent me a text last night saying 'don't forget to pick your brother up from the station' at half two in the morning.

MiddletonPink · 26/09/2014 22:16

Are you 75?

ByTheWishingWell · 26/09/2014 22:17

I text people at any time. My phone's always just on vibrate in case DD's asleep; I would assume that if someone didn't want to be disturbed they would switch their phone to silent or off.

NickNackNooToYou · 26/09/2014 22:17

My phone is on permanant silence, drives everyone nutty but it means I can look at stuff when I choose, not when my phone 'tells' me to Grin

ithoughtofitfirst · 26/09/2014 22:19

Grin middleton
