To think it's rude to make a point of not letting your kids watch telly when staying with someone else

I have a couple of sets of friends who come to stay with us from time to time. My kids are allowed to watch the telly some of the time.

These friends order their kids out of the living room whenever they find them watching telly with my kids. AIBU to find this irritating? It makes me uncomfortable because I feel as though my choice to let the kids watch is "wrong".

I must point out that they watch CBeebies, not slasher films. I would see their point then.

make sure you have plenty of tin foil next time
for if they forget their hats again

Thanks all. I think because a couple of sets of friends did this, I wasn't sure if it was now a reasonable thing to do (bit like asking people not to smoke in your house).

Why so many posts about how fine watching a bit of TV is? I don't think this is about whether TV is good/ok or not, but allowing people to make their own choices. Why is people not wanting their children to watch TV so offensive? You know most people think it's fine; some don't, it's a minority choice, but it's a choice they have every right to make.

I let my children have the occasional fizzy drink. I'm not offended if other people don't, and would check with a parent before offering fizzy to a small child. It's just a choice.

You should invite people you enjoy having to visit CruCru. I personally would find it a real shame to restrict my friends to those who had identical parenting methods - I'd have to disown half my family for a start. But it sounds like you've had no time to yourselves and you need to find some way to cut down!
