I have to ask: bugaboo

What's the ishooo with bugaboo here? I notice it mentioned alot but can't really figure out what the problem is?

I quite like the look of them, but as I love in the country there's no way I'd have one for practical reasons. . but I need to know why they're shunned a bit here on MN?!

When we were pram shopping, I thought they looked a bit flimsy. And the brake needs two hands to unlock... I tried using one and the bloody thing bit me. So that put me off. No idea why other people don't like them though.

Paraibalove · 20/09/2014 13:55

live not love!

The bugaboo bees are the flimsiest, more expensive thing I've seen. so tinny! but the others seem fine!

It's inverted snobbery.

I had a frog. Fantastic pram used daily for 2 babies, well worth the money. Which wasn't actually that excessive.

justmyview · 20/09/2014 13:56

I think they're very expensive and not worth the money

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 20/09/2014 13:58

Can't comment on the bee.

Would love a donkey! But no twins so would be ridiculous.

wiltingfast · 20/09/2014 14:00

I had a bee. Loved it. Did me two babies in the city no problem. Only buggy I've ever owned.

Hadn't noticed people didn't like them?

Artandco · 20/09/2014 14:02

Loved the chameleon here. Brake worked fine one handed, lasted x2 children, and sold for 80% of what we paid so got most back. Huge basket, buggy board worked well, handle adjusted perfect for me small and dh tall.

ApplySomePressure · 20/09/2014 14:06

Hated my Bee- flimsy and it felt as though newborn DS was going to fly out every time I hit a bump.

Sold it an bought an Uppababy. Best purchase I have made

TarkaTheOtter · 20/09/2014 14:07

I have a secondhand frog. They were discontinued in 2010 so it is at least 4 years old but I would guess (from the ages of the children of the people we bought it from) more like 6/7 years. And it's like new. Plus, if anything did go wrong the chameleon parts apparently fit quite well. I like it. Would never splash out on a new one though.

TheRealMaryMillington · 20/09/2014 14:09

We had a frog. It did 3 of our own babies and now a friend has it for her youngest. It could keep on going and going but no-one is having any more babies. Brilliant design.

Can't comment on the other models, but I've heard not as good.

5madthings · 20/09/2014 14:10

Never used a bee but I have a bugaboo frog, bought 11 years ago, used for four children and it's been fab. Still in great condition despite beaches, mud, snow, being g on trains, buses and bumped up and down stairs at tube stations etc. The covers etc all go in the wash, it's easy to use and was far better than the britax, the mama's and papas2, the chico and maclaren pushchairs we had/tried for ds1.

It cost about £500 but eleven yrs and four kids that's pretty good value. My youngest is three and walks mainly now but the frog is in a cupboard incase we ever have another.

TheHoundsBitch · 20/09/2014 14:12

I had a Chameleon, it was great except for the fact it took up a lot of boot space. (We bought a little foldable McClaren to keep in the car when DS was about one) I dont drive so I used it loads. I used it in several inches of snow because of the reversible wheels, which I could not have done with a regular buggy. It was high up and v comfy for dS, and had high enough handlebars that I did have to stoop to push it.
I didn't need to use two hands for the brake, you just pull it up to apply and the squeeze the button to release.

icanmakeyouicecream · 20/09/2014 14:13

I'm not sure why.

I've used Bugaboo products daily for over 4yrs and I would never use another pushchair brand now.

HelloLA · 20/09/2014 14:25

You're supposed to say you've got a 7th-hand McClaren, ideally found in a skip and covered in Greggs crumbs. It shows how totally laid back and awesome you are.

kkllww · 20/09/2014 14:30

I got a bugaboo chameleon 2nd hand from ebay and it's fantastic - still in use for my 2yr old. I wouldn't buy one new but the good thing about these is they seem to be very hardy and last several times over (the guy I bought from used it for both of their kids).
There seems to be a fashion of using certain buggies depending what area you're in. When we were in South London, EVERYONE had a bugaboo chameleon. Here in Essex it seems to be all about the iCandy!

SaucyJack · 20/09/2014 14:32

Grin HelloLA.

Bonus points if it's pink and you've got a boy.

TheBookofRuth · 20/09/2014 14:32

We have a bee. It has done us well for two and a half years so far and is now on it's second child.

I didn't want one initially because everyone seemed to have one, but for what we needed at the time (inner city living, limited space, public transport using), it was the best option. I've been perfectly happy with it.

Pregnantagain7 · 20/09/2014 14:36

I had a chameleon which I used for two children it was great. Found out I was pregnant again and sold it on eBay got a reasonable amount for it and put it towards a donkey which I will be using for my two youngest I really rate them.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 20/09/2014 14:43

I've got a Chameleon. Hate the bloody thing, so angry that I got sucked into all the hype. it is a flimsy, poor quality POS. The main prob at the mo is that the upright position on the buggy seat is almost an acute angle, and my DD (almost 2) seems uncomfy. The other thing that grates is the extortionate cost of the 'add on' items ( £90 for a foot muff etc).

Cheby · 20/09/2014 14:47

I have a Cam 3, it's bloody brilliant. Turns on a sixpence, mows down commuters who get in my way, handles kerbs and uneven ground brilliantly. We used a silver cross pop on holiday recently and it was shit.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 20/09/2014 14:49

I have a Bee and I love it. It's a great city pram. I still use it for my 2 year old and now my newborn. And there's none of this faffing around dismantling it just to get it in the car.

It's just inverted snobbery. You're not supposed to care about what prams anyone has, unless it's a Bugaboo or an iCandy in which case you care a lot. Hmm

Everyotherfreckle · 20/09/2014 14:55

Ok, i usually hate reverse snobbery about buggies but we got given a bugaboo cameleon for free.

At best I would say it was 'fine'. It lasted well and was sturdy.

But:

If you took it anywhere remotely muddy you had to stop every few minutes to scrape mud and crap out the front wheels.
If you put it into 'offroad mode' Hmm it was impossible to steer.
It is bulky to fold and doesn't fold in one piece (although this is the case for many of the larger travel systems).
The handle adjustment was fiddly.
I thought that the fabrics and general set up wasn't nearly as nice and 'luxurious' (iykwim) as eg. I candy/stokke etc
When DS was about 1 we brought a 50 quid new Zeta Vooom and the bugaboo never came out again!

Grin HelloLA and SaucyJack

I once saw a post by someone who was soooo laid back and awesome they didn't even KNOW what make of pushchair they had! Apparently it was given to them by a relative and they didn't ask because, y'know, it didn't matter. Unless it broke and you needed to get a replacement part or something, but I guess worrying about that would make one uptight and less than awesome.

We have a Bee. It was perfect when we lived in London in a second floor flat with no lift, no storage and caught the bus all the time.

Everyotherfreckle · 20/09/2014 15:01

Oh yes, I forgot about the stupid brake!
