I have to ask: bugaboo

What's the ishooo with bugaboo here? I notice it mentioned alot but can't really figure out what the problem is?

I quite like the look of them, but as I love in the country there's no way I'd have one for practical reasons. . but I need to know why they're shunned a bit here on MN?!

I got the bee as I wanted it to forward and rear face, go down as one piece (quite a few have a chassi and a seat bit) and we have limited storage, it is light and v manoeuvre able and great for town. And does newborn up.

We have an off roader we got for £10 on eBay which was great for country walks and was fine to leave in the shed.

Annietheacrobat · 20/09/2014 19:50

I have been through a few buggies and in the end couldn't resist buying a cameleon on eBay. It was great to push on flat smooth surfaces but hated the wobbly handle and unfolding the frame. Sold it on after a few months.

Now have a city jogger GT. Very happy.

Bogeyface · 20/09/2014 19:51

Speaking purely for myself, it wasnt the pram so much as the type of person who bought it. Of the 4 people I know with them, every single one banged on about how exclusive it was, how expensive it was but sooooo worth it and 2 of them went to great lengths to tell me about the limited edition colours they had that no one else would have (they both had exactly the same!). It never happened with any other sort of pram, just the bugaboos.

Rosedust · 20/09/2014 20:05

Love my bee - light and easy to push (especially one handed if need be!). Used it from birth with a cocoon with ds1 and planning to use it with ds2 - it'll be 3 and a half years old by then!

They are quite expensive but I've been happy with the quality and service from bugaboo Smile

MazzleDazzle · 20/09/2014 20:09

I had bugaboo Donkey and it was fantastic, but initially I was so embarrassed to tell the school gate mums I'd ordered one that I contemplated claiming I'd won it from a baby magazine! I didn't speak about it, bought plain black cosy toes etc and hoped no one would notice it. They did of course and took great delight in saying things like "it's ok for you, you can afford x, y and z...just look at home much your pram cost!"

Yes they're expensive, but I've also had cheaper buggies and prams that have been a complete waste of money.

Incidentally, I didn't buy much else other than a cot and the bugaboo, which I felt justified it.

Impatientwino · 20/09/2014 20:18

I loved my bee

Went into mothercare when expecting pushed a few around and the bee was easiest to manoeuvre and putting it up and down is a piece of piss. Was most annoyed as the one we liked turned out to be one of the more pricey prams, hadn't heard of bugaboo before.

Glad we bought it though as it's light as anything which was great when I was chucking it in my boot every day and was tiny for on the tube and the train.

It's also got great resell value.

My friend had an uppababy vista and that seemed pretty mega too....

This said, it never ceases to amaze me why other people care so much about what other people buy! Why does it affect you?!?!

Passthewineandchocolate · 20/09/2014 20:47

My Bugaboo Chameleon has been brilliant. I bought it just before my daughter was born and 3 years and hundreds and hundreds of miles later it's still going strong. Most of my friends have been through several pushchairs and strollers but I've only needed my bugaboo.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 20/09/2014 20:54

I had a Gecko, so an old one. It was the most rubbish bit of tat ever, so wobbly and you couldn't even look at a kerb without the thing practically tipping over..

Will stick with my solid Icandy.

AndHarry · 20/09/2014 21:07

It's both inverse and normal snobbery. Inverse because they're expensive, especially with all the accessories on top, and in some well-off areas (Brighton, Harpenden, posh bits of London :o) it's unusual to see anything except a Bugaboo, Maclaren or a P&T, and normal because in some areas they're the buggy of choice for WAG-alikes who call their babies Jez-Abel Hmm

icanmakeyouicecream · 20/09/2014 21:41

I love the name Jezebel but OH said no. :(

AndHarry · 20/09/2014 22:12

Well done your DH... Although Jezebel is fractionally better than Jez-Abel.

icanmakeyouicecream · 20/09/2014 22:18

Is Jezebel a slut?? areweallowedtosaythat?

AndHarry · 20/09/2014 22:23

Baddie in the Old Testament, synonymous with lies, murder and savagery.

Sp1rals · 20/09/2014 22:29

How can a pram be wanky? Whole load of projection going on there. Jesus people buy what they want and either like it or don't, who cares if it's the cheapest going (nobody) or the most expensive (lots of people).

OP I have a Chameleon, found it fab. Taking the seat off to fold is a bit annoying all right. I did what most people do and got a lightweight buggy for the boot of the car and used bugaboo for longer walks, going on grass, rough ground etc.

rootypig · 20/09/2014 22:35

I have a Bee, bought it second hand because I wasn't sure about it. We love it! DD, 22 months, who is not given to tantrums, cries and screams when we collapse it Grin. Also when anyone else pushes or touches it which is somewhat mortifying Hmm

Kittykatmacbill · 20/09/2014 23:10

I love my bugaboo bee, I do have slight chameleon envy though! But the bee is great, and about half the people I know have bugaboos! They are lovely and seem to retain their value well.
Am a bit gutted that I can't afford a donkey for when dd2 arrives...

icanmakeyouicecream · 20/09/2014 23:18

Don't Kitty, the two piece fold will piss you off no end.

PrimalLass · 20/09/2014 23:24

Second hand Fog for £200. Was used every day for 3 years. Sold it for £140 Grin

Love it. I had a Quinny Buzz the first time and it was SHITE.

PrimalLass · 20/09/2014 23:26

After trying to fold the Buzz, taking the Frog apart to stick it in the car was a piece of piss. 20 seconds max. And I loved that the seat bit could be used without the frame - very useful at baby groups.

PrimalLass · 20/09/2014 23:28

In fact nearer 10 seconds. I don't get the complaints about that.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 20/09/2014 23:31

You're supposed to say you've got a 7th-hand McClaren, ideally found in a skip and covered in Greggs crumbs. It shows how totally laid back and awesome you are.

Grin

Or as some wag on here once said: you shouldn't have a buggy, you should only carry your child in a sling, so you have both hands free to give to the poor.

I love my Bugaboo Bee. What other pram can you carry on your own while running up the steps to the tube?

icanmakeyouicecream · 20/09/2014 23:33

The Bee is the most amazing invention ever!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 20/09/2014 23:39

People who hate the Bee are the same people who go to the Tate Modern and spend the whole time saying "my five year old could do that".

Or people who don't understand why you live in a flat in London when for the same price you could buy a 6 bedroom detached Barrett Executive Home 20 miles outside Hull.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 20/09/2014 23:40

(lighthearted disclaimer)

KenAdams · 21/09/2014 00:01

LiverpoolLou, are your extender clips closed? It shouldn't do that. I don't see the problem with the brake at al either.

DD has only ever napped on me in the Cameleon. Bought a Quinny Zapp for holiday and she screamed in it and wouldn't sleep. Bought a Maclaren for the next holiday, ditto.

I love it though. I don't drive and could fit so much shopping in the basket, get it on buses, don't have to inflate the tyres and so easy to push. The footmuff is really cosy too. I wouldn't be without mine.
