I have to ask: bugaboo

What's the ishooo with bugaboo here? I notice it mentioned alot but can't really figure out what the problem is?

I quite like the look of them, but as I love in the country there's no way I'd have one for practical reasons. . but I need to know why they're shunned a bit here on MN?!

Yes the clips are closed. The handle stays in place if the pram is empty when I pull it up the steps but not with DS in it.

Mrsfrumble · 21/09/2014 00:16

The rachety bits in the handlebar clips do wear out. This happened to our Bee recently and I had to order replacement clips from Bugaboo. It was annoying but the handlebar now stays in place, even when it's loaded with a toddler in the seat, one on the buggy board and loads of shopping in the basket.

TobyLerone · 21/09/2014 00:40

My friends just bought a brand new Stokke Xplory for their PFB. Surely that's the most wanky pram of all.

:o I have one of these.

Is the Bugaboo Bee the one where it looks like the baby is on the floor when it's in the carrycot bit?

icanmakeyouicecream · 21/09/2014 01:04

The Bee doesn't have a carrycot.

The Bee 3 does but not many people have tried it out.

The Stokke was shit. So shit they refunded me as they admitted how shit it was.

And it was shut. Creaky. Squeaky and shit.

HTH.

Bought a cam 2 (special edition all black Wink) for pfb 3.5 years ago.
I think we paid almost £900
Friends of ours bought some green weird zorb looking thing up on stilts with tiny wheels from mamas and papas for £600 and said we were stupid for spending so much, but we love our cam and now using it for DD2.
That being said the break cable has had to be replaced twice- which is a feature the cam 2 has rectified (and the bee and buff have foot breaks so not an issue).
Where i live every man and his dog has a cameleon. They must be so popular for a reason!

Loveloveloveher · 21/09/2014 03:48

Weird people would hate a buggy so much! I was a nanny for 15 years before having my own and there was no question for me about which buggy I found to be the best. I think bugaboo do great quality, long lasting and practical buggies. They are expensive but I've also seen families buy buggy after buggy which then adds up to more. I don't get the folding thing. I manage it fine and can fit it all into a vauxhall corsa with some shopping.

Liverpoollou, have you tried emailing bugaboo? Might be a simple part needs replacing to fix your handle problem.

TobyLerone · 21/09/2014 08:04

I dunno. Maybe it's not a carrycot. Maybe it just looks like one when it's lying flat. Either way, it's disturbingly low to the ground.

I love my Stokke. It's not in the least bit shit. But to each her/his own!

sesamstrasse · 21/09/2014 08:13

You can get a bugaboo if you live in the country. The chameleon has small wheels which makes it a bit of a nightmare but the buffalo is great.

Longtalljosie · 21/09/2014 08:21

Round here they're often pushed by people who've got a somewhat "entitled" attitude (I've got a uterus - worship me - types).

How do you know that? Are you talking to these women? Or are you assuming that because as well as having a big pram, they also have nice hair?

I have a chameleon for places I can walk to and a Maclaren XT for the car. I love them both but the chameleon will go in the loft first, not least because of the amount of space it takes up in the hall!

Honsepricesarecrazy · 21/09/2014 08:28

I had a first generation Bee fire my third after doing the whole mamas & papas travel system followed by Maclaren for the first two and can honestly say that the Bee is the best pram ever. I loved the huge hood, it faced both ways, was a dream to push, was lovely and compact and we used it from newborn - three without ever buying another buggy. I bought all the accessories on eBay and then flogged the whole lot on eBay for over £200. Best pram ever and I have had a lot.

whataloadofoldshit · 21/09/2014 08:43

I have the bee too, it's absolutely perfect. I literally do not have a bad word to say about it :)

mrsmilkymoo · 21/09/2014 08:51

We have the bee. Didn't have much choice really as we have a tiny boot and needed something that would fit. It was cheaper than buying a new car! to be honest I wasn't keen on spending the money on it, but so far (dd is only 7 weeks) I really love it. She's lovely and snug in the cocoon, and it's been easy to push and manoeuvre while recovering from a c section. We live in a city so it's ideal for the location.

LittleBairn · 21/09/2014 08:55

I love bugaboo's. I've been a nanny for 12 years, I've pretty much used every brand and style of pushchair Bugaboo has always been my favorite.
With the exception of the flimsy Bee, the Cameleon and Buffalo are excellent.
For me as a non driver a really good quality pushchair is essential.

Soonish · 30/09/2014 19:24

I've had about 65 pushchairs in the last 11 years and tbh I really can't get on with the Cam.

I mean the colours and lovely and the fabrics and so on but it's just so blooming hard to push unless you live in recently built shopping precinct land, with flat pavements and no kerbs.

I always tip the baby backwards instead of making him sit up.

I always get the front wheels stuck going down a kerb.

I hate the way the hood goes wonky.

I mean it looks nice but give me a Mountain Buggy every time. Or a Maclaren.

I have a Gecko and had the Rage with it several times... But it was quite old (2nd hand). It did seem fairly sturdy though.

thegreylady · 30/09/2014 20:04

Dd had a chameleon for the boys. It was great , lasted 5 years and was sold for a decent price. It was bloody expensive though and there was no car seat option.

Soonish · 01/10/2014 06:38

I think you can use various car seats on all of them. I had trouble getting the Pebble on and off the Cam though, very very tricky.

5madthings · 01/10/2014 08:06

You can use a castrate on all of them but have to buy the adapters separately they are about £30?

5madthings · 01/10/2014 08:06

Castrate? Carseat! Bloody autocorrect!

ShelaghTurner · 01/10/2014 08:09

Agree with inverted snobbery. It's all part of a backlash against the so called yummy mummies, a term which I utterly despise despite not being one.

I have had so many pushchairs it's embarrassing, and the Bee was right up there as joint first with the Baby Jogger City Mini GT. If I had another baby, which I won't, I'd buy another one like a shot.

Soonish · 01/10/2014 17:52

I'm not being a snob at all, I love the idea of the Bugaboo and its clean lines and techy sort of profile.

It has some really strong points but they aren't the ones that matter the most to me - I've tried so hard to love it as I hate doing the ebay thing, and want to keep it really but it annoys me so much every time I use it.

The Bee is slightly better tbh and I like it quite a lot BUT my child's legs fall off the sides of the teeny seat all the time, which looks uncomfortable and also the harness is just weird. I have also broken many nails trying to reverse the seat unit (09 Bee) and it doesn't fold very compactly when in PF mode. Nightmare to store in that mode and that kind of defeats the object for me.

My priorities are ease of use and not having to worry about rough ground and so on, an easy to use harness (why have a tiny short crotch strap and massive unwieldy shoulder straps? You need it the other way round) and some shopping space underneath. And a decent fold.

Soonish · 01/10/2014 17:53

It is VERY good for going round department stores though Smile

TheLovelyBoots · 01/10/2014 17:59

Back when I was last in the pram market (9 years ago), Bugaboo was the market leader in "expensive" prams. I didn't know this had changed.

How much is a Bugaboo these days? I really loved mine.

OneSkinnyChip · 01/10/2014 18:03

We got a free third hand Frog which has been fab and we will pass it on when we're finished with it Smile
