Everyone around me at work is going on about what number phone hardware they have. Its like the dullest conversation ever.

One guy just said I could upgrade for only 30 a month. 30 a month for 24 months sounds a lot to me especially as my current phone is just fine!

I can't believe people camped out overnight to be the first to buy a phone - that'll they'll be able to pick off the shelf in a few weeks' time.

...and that will be outdated in a year.

PrettyPictures92 · 19/09/2014 12:59

Some folk are interested in technology... my Step dad developes technology for a living, talked about it all the time when I was a teenager. I've inherited that passion now... I don't go about spouting off to other folk though

sarahighseas · 19/09/2014 13:03

The thing is, it isn't about technology as my two year old phone pretty much has all the same features. Its more about marketing IMO.

I can't wait to get shot of my iphone, the piece of shite that it is

Mrsjayy · 19/09/2014 13:16

Fb friend was the first person in the shop this am for the new iphone I thought jeez that is a bit sad

SaucyJack · 19/09/2014 13:17

YABU. I'm not interested in the latest iPhone meself either- but that doesn't make me a better or more intellectual person than anyone else.

DoristheCamel · 19/09/2014 13:19

Not my thing. My phone does what I want it to and more probably.

Cba with contracts or fancy stuff.

Mobile phone chit chat bores me to absolute tears.

furcoatbigknickers · 19/09/2014 13:21

Unless there between 12-19

WiseGuysHighRise · 19/09/2014 13:21

It is annoying and I do raise an eyebrow thinking "yeah but all of us android converts have had these "new" features for ages", but on the other hand, lket them have their moment of joy.

I'm sure we're all capable of talking about topics others find boring.

maras2 · 19/09/2014 13:27

Great line from ' Shit my Dad says' son' My new i phone does blah blah blah blah as opposed to your blah blah blah' dad 'Did you invent it'? son 'No' Dad 'Then shut the fuck up' Grin

Mrsjayy · 19/09/2014 13:27

Tbf I don't think I am better than them I dont understand the excitement and queuing and talking about mobile phones its quite dull and its just a phone

WiseGuysHighRise · 19/09/2014 13:28

Ha ha maras I've seen that episode Grin

Legionofboom · 19/09/2014 13:29

I can't help but smile at the irony of saying Its like the dullest conversation ever and then starting a thread about it Grin

Anyway my phone is the least sophisticated thing ever but it makes calls and sends texts which is all I ask of it.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/09/2014 13:30

I don't mention my phone hardware number as I don't know it Smile but its a slider, pink and I got for my birthday about 7 years ago!

Can't believe what is "normal" to pay for a phone nowadays.

WiseGuysHighRise · 19/09/2014 13:35

Actually, I should declare I have recently purchased a hideously expensive phone (not an iphone) and while I love it and it is possibly the nicest thing I have ever owned, it is the most expensive thing I have ever owned after my house and car.

I do use it for everything though - sync my work calendar, emails, can edit docs on it, i use it for shopping, watch netlix and iplayer on it, play my music through it at work so I thought I may as well pay out for something I actually enjoy using.

I do try not to bore everyone with how amazing it is though Grin

Andrewofgg · 19/09/2014 13:59

Inside all of is regardless of age or sex there is a Boy of Twelve, and these electric toys appeal to him. He wields more influence on men than on women but women carry him around too.

He has a big sister - a Girl of Sixteen who wants new clothes, and more new clothes, and yet more new clothes!

petswinprizes · 19/09/2014 14:03

One of my friends has just posted a pic of his new phone on facebook - I swear he was more excited about that than the birth of his daughter!

Cabrinha · 19/09/2014 14:04

Well, you might find it dull, but without people who ARE interested and willing to spend money that supports the technology industry, you wouldn't have mumsnet.

So - YABU!

So what if a phone is out of date a year later? That means that the rest of us get things like cameras, apps, video, internet as standard. Without those people willing to buy who care about new hardware and software, you wouldn't have a mobile phone at all!

You don't have to join in the convo - but I'd be grateful it's happening! (as I type this on my phone)

Shockers · 19/09/2014 14:20

I'm not sure what number mine is, it just arrived one day last year and I promptly covered it with a beautiful wooden case that DS1 bought for me.
It works though, so that's a bonus on the last one.

icanmakeyouicecream · 19/09/2014 14:31

I agree, it's very cringey.

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/09/2014 14:33

Mine was £15 in Tesco's with £5 free credit......

I think anyone who validates themselves through status possessions just really hasn't understood what life is all about.

splendide · 19/09/2014 14:36

It just depends if you're interested in technology though. I find phone chat quite interesting. There are lots of workplace conversations I find boring though.

I find people being proud that their phone "only does calls" deeply tedious to be honest.

bruffin · 19/09/2014 14:41

Agree with Cabrinha, everyone has different interests, i am sure all of you that are "proud" of the disinterest have equally boring interests to other people.
My ds and dh will talk for hours on new gadgets and go into the intricacies of the design etc, but then we went to Audley End at the week end and ds was just as interested in the design of the secret doors.
