Evening all!

OP posts:
tadjennyp · 18/09/2014 23:02

Haven't posted on MN in years, but have read every single one of these indyref threads and enjoyed the highly articulate and well-researched arguments from both sides of the debate. Am in Oregon and it has been all over the local newspaper and even on the radio stations!

I am sentimental about the union having been to school in Scotland, Wales and England, married in Wales, honeymooned in Scotland etc. Best of luck Scotland and I sincerely hope that the political engagement and hunger for constitutional change, led by the Scots, is translated across the UK. And that I get to come home!

troels possibly! I had to google to find out who he was. I am from a country that has already voted for independence so not up on who's who in the British scene! ;) I am just here because I feel like it is history in the making. :)

squoosh · 18/09/2014 23:04

Middleagedmoo voting No isn't the trendy option in this referendum but from what you say it sounds as though you made the right choice.

OneNight · 18/09/2014 23:04

No need for a hard hat Wynona because I'm sure that people do that and indeed I do it myself weighing up the track record of the people their character and integrity and their proposed policies. I voted Yes in the Devolution Referendum and I've voted No in this one. I don't see the need to keep getting on to the No 59 bus just because I've used it in the past.

WildThong · 18/09/2014 23:05

I'm not going to believe any polls etc. Can you imagine getting all hyped up thinking you've own, then waking up tomorrow to a defeat. The news programmes have to fill up with something, I'll wait for the actual results.

scaevola · 18/09/2014 23:05

I've just been watching a bit of SKY: just lot's of padding at the moment.

(And although it perhaps shouldn't matter, it was a poor choice by the presenter to wear a jersey so thin her bra is quite so obvious),

temporaryusername · 18/09/2014 23:05

Just put sky news on and Statistically I have an indyref and bra related point Smile - either the lighting is odd at the Glasgow count or Kay Burley is wearing a white bra under a dark knit top. Perhaps she thought it would be a good trivial distraction for worried viewers.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/09/2014 23:07

It's easy to think that everyone is voting Yes, as IMO they are much more visible. The gathering at George Square last night looked huge, but in reality it was only about 4000 people. That's not to put it down, just that it can look more than it is. Lots of windows with Yes posters, but how many more have none? Mine included!

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/09/2014 23:07

Nope, not getting my hopes up on a poll either.

temporaryusername, tut tut tut! but the question is, does it fit?!

squoosh · 18/09/2014 23:08

Bit of bra cross posting analysis there! Typical Kay.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 18/09/2014 23:08

middleagedmoo - I'm sorry you are feeling a bit down about your vote - please don't. It's not 'being scared' when you look into the facts and make a rational decision. Of course it's 'sexier & more fun' to vote YES YES YES LET'S DO THIS than it is to vote 'Nah, that's not right' which is why the question should have been worded differently. Be proud - you did a really good thing, for all of the RIGHT reasons Flowers

tilliebob · 18/09/2014 23:08

I'm full of prescription meds and alcohol and need to go to bed before I end up with no Facebook friends. I'm emotional, bloody angry and finally letting rip. Wake me up in the morning. Or if it's yes and I'm about to lose my British nationality, don't rush to wake me ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused.

squoosh · 18/09/2014 23:09

Douglas Alexander has also done quite well for Labour. His hair is a bit 1950's schoolboy though.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 18/09/2014 23:09

lol at the glowing bra Grin We're going to have a lot of padding til 2am I think

Wynona · 18/09/2014 23:09

I think I struggle to understand why there is only 1 tory MP in Scotland. Is their message so abhorrent. I genuinely don't understand.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 18/09/2014 23:09

SC and WT I agree. Some city-types were muttering about the YouGov poll moving currency markets tonight if it gave a firm result one way or the other, but nothing has happened - possibly because they have now realised that the polls could be way off.

Cambiodenombre · 18/09/2014 23:09

The social media aspect puts a weird skew on this referendum. I am in a weird bubble whereas I am mostly surrounded by no voters but there is no mention of it. No posters. No twibbons. No rallies. Plus I think the 65+ demographic is expected to be primarily no and I imagine they are largely absent from twitter and facebook.

Igneococcus · 18/09/2014 23:10

tad i was just about to try and get some sleep but just want to say that I lived in Portland for 2 years and I love Oregon, absolutely fabulous place. :)

temporaryusername · 18/09/2014 23:10

Grin Doubtful, I'd have thought. Unless she has had an intervention.

tabulahrasa · 18/09/2014 23:10

So no idea why it's different programmes in England and Scotland then?

I just wondered what they were saying that was different...I mean would it not have made sense to just have the same coverage?

SlowlorisIncognito · 18/09/2014 23:10

I'm intrigued by Douglas Alexander wearing a blue tie as a Labour politician!

flippinada · 18/09/2014 23:11

As a feminist, it pains me to say this. But I want to drag NS off to SpaceNK for a makeover. Her base is so unflattering.

Note: I may regret saying this in the morning.

WildThong · 18/09/2014 23:11

Strange, I'm on another forum as well just now. Male dominated due to the subject. It started with one huge thread with Ayes and Naws battling with each other, now it has split up as well into 2 distinct 'sides'. A human behaviourist would have a field day.

starwarslegoboy · 18/09/2014 23:12

Can't agree about GB. As a former Labout voter, I find it hilarious that the Tories knew that their politicians were so toxic that they wheeled out him, even when they peddled the lie that he broke Britain. He clearly thinks that this is the path back for him. I despise DC less. And the conduct of Labour is beyond contempt.

If it is a No result, I will struggle in the subsequent GE. The Monster ravers might have it

Cambiodenombre · 18/09/2014 23:12

Possibly they keep standard programming on longer in england
