to feel happy and excited about voting YES!

I am just back from the polling booth and can say that I have never felt so positive about voting. The feeling that my vote is actually counting, rather than being swalowed up as is the case with Westminster voting, is also fantastic.

IMO a yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

Bloody hell don't let the Welsh hear you say that!!! HmmGrin

ArcheryAnnie · 18/09/2014 15:34

Yes, twitter. It's a social media platform just as this one is, and it has real people on it. You think because it's twitter, it's ok for people to be vile on it?

KissMyFatArse · 18/09/2014 15:34

All the rubbish spouted towards English and England is out of order. However you are very ignorant if you think it hasn't been the same abuse directed at Scotland and it's voters. Just up thread someone called the op an idiot.

There's no need for that. But don't be so blinkered as to think only the English has rubbish spouted at them.

People have cast their vote, myself included and it was a very emotional and proud moment. Abuse and name calling on either side is uncalled for.

gingee · 18/09/2014 15:35

Why will no one answer my passport question??Sad

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 18/09/2014 15:36

I don't think that no. But I thought you were talking about actual personal experience. Twitter is full of utter bullshit, surely you know that.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 15:36

Oh come on Kiss, calling the OP an 'idiot' on MN is practically the law.

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 18/09/2014 15:37

Really bummed that apparently so many of my countrymen no longer want to be. OP this might be a happy day for you, but it is pretty sad for me.

corkgirlindublin · 18/09/2014 15:37

Why do you know all the English mrsruffallo? Should I name them?

ArcheryAnnie · 18/09/2014 15:38

But don't be so blinkered as to think only the English has rubbish spouted at them.

I'm not. The thing is, I wouldn't follow anyone I knew was anti-Scottish. I wouldn't willingly follow any xenophobes. But people I thought were reasonable, and who I've followed for ages without any trouble, have been retweeting this nasty stuff into my timeline, and it's really shocked me that they don't see anything wrong with it.

TBH your post, KissMyFatArse, just looks like tit for tat excuses. I'd call out xenophobia wherever it came from.

KissMyFatArse · 18/09/2014 15:38

Mrsruffalo yes your right, apologies for my ignorance in thinking we could have a discussion without the name calling Wink

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 15:39

Well, in RL are the English people you know making the vote 'all about them'. You are posting on social media, and Twitter is bigger than MN.

gingee · 18/09/2014 15:39

Erm of course twitter is full of bullshit but it doesn't write itself, these are real opinions of real people

TeamScotland · 18/09/2014 15:39

I'm happy today has finally arrived and my vote is cast.

Now the wait.

KissMyFatArse · 18/09/2014 15:40

I agree It's tit for tat on both sides, therefore you can't use it against one side to gain the moral high ground yet use it against the other ...

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 15:40

Never seen it done yet Kate!

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 18/09/2014 15:40

My favourite name to call people is 'bawbag'. Really satisfying. Or 'yah rocket'.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 15:41

No, just wondering what you are basing your cliched and generalising comment on.

noddyholder · 18/09/2014 15:41

I only know 6 people who are voting Was originally 4 Yes 2 NO All have now voted Yes

atticusclaw · 18/09/2014 15:42

gingee I don't think anyone knows yet because the whole thing will be the subject of years and years of wrangling and bitter arguments. The only ones who will benefit are the lawyers

What seems obvious to me is that there will be huge political pressure from rUK for the rUK politicians to protect the interests of our remaining country. If you're not a UK citizen you don't get a UK passport. Always been the rule and always likely to be.

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 18/09/2014 15:42

"yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies."

Sounds a lot like when a relationship goes tits up and someone lamely says "well we can still be friends". How well does that usually work?

MehsMum · 18/09/2014 15:42

Rita:
'Mehs do you have much of an understanding of the yes campaign?

It's chairman is an ex Labour mp for example.'

But I thought you were so eager to get rid of dear old dysfunctional Westminster and the establishment? Er...

As for Kid and 'it's not all about you'... maybe not but it is about ALL of us in the current UK. The reason I have been bored stiff by the omnipresence of IndyRef on the news is because I have no say at all. The other is that the omnipresence of anything will bore me to tears eventually.

If the campaign had been conducted with a bit more dignity and honesty by those at the top on BOTH sides, I'd feel less frustrated.

Charitably, if Scotland votes Yes, for the sake of the No voters I will go on buying single malt. Grin

corkgirlindublin · 18/09/2014 15:43

On my own experience mrsruffallo. What are you basing your rebuke on?

gingee · 18/09/2014 15:44

atticus but how can they just NOT KNOW? Surely once it's independent UK passports will be null and void? What are they going to do just close the borders for a few years until it's sorted?? Shock

TeamScotland · 18/09/2014 15:45

I know 4 who were nos or undecideds who went yes just yesterday. Today someone close to me who until the start of the week was an absolute solid no (lives in Edinburgh, career in FS), voted yes.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 15:46

Can I ask you to describe this experience in order to challenge it? You are suggesting that the welsh and english all have one similar personality, and Scottish people share a personality that is different from this. I am just interested in where you get that idea. Did you go to Swansea, Crumbria, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, London, Edinburgh, the outer hebrides? Where were all of these clones??
