to feel happy and excited about voting YES!

I am just back from the polling booth and can say that I have never felt so positive about voting. The feeling that my vote is actually counting, rather than being swalowed up as is the case with Westminster voting, is also fantastic.

IMO a yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

I will be up as well. I have bad insomnia anyhow and will be watching the Scotland Decides programme. I'm up at 5 anyhow for work.

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 19:14

No I don't think for that reason a UK vote would have been fair.

grovel · 18/09/2014 19:15

giraffescantboogie, sorry you're ill.

I send you Cake, unless cake would be detrimental to your health.

browneyedgirl86 · 18/09/2014 19:17

Happybubblebrain- I didn't vote for Alex Salmond but he's first minister.David Cameron will not be in power forever. Why is it stupid to vote against Alex Salmonds version of independence but perfectly acceptable to vote yes to get rid of a tory government?

Both are elected in a democratic process.

giraffescantboogie · 18/09/2014 19:29

I feel cake would very much help as it would take my mind of the pain in my lungs. In fact I think it would be dangerous to refuse cake!

SirChenjin · 18/09/2014 19:34

David Cameron will not be here forever - an independent Scotland will be (and the resultant fallout...). Use your intelligence and vote for independence for many reasons - but not because of David Cameron.

TheBogQueen · 18/09/2014 19:42

Just home from work in the centre of Glasgow. Blue and white Yes posters everywhere . Such excitement in the air.

I have to go to work tomorrow but will have a few Wine then get up at 5am to see the result.

It's been really great seeing young people in their twenties so passionate about politics. Everyone is talking about it . It's an amazing experience even for an English person.

SirChenjin · 18/09/2014 19:48

That's Alex promising free fish suppers to all weegies Grin

pinterestcherries · 18/09/2014 19:51

5-10 years of difficulties? Sorry, that's my daughter's childhood, or the rest of it. No Thanks. And yes, YABU OP for being so excited to have voted for something that will drag us all into economic chaos, for decades possibly, and will make society's poorest even poorer. Well done you!

Tinkerball · 18/09/2014 19:56

I find it quite offensive that people state "oh not another referendum thread" and "yawn". If you're not interested don't open the thread- its not rocket science. Its offensive to the people who it does matter to.

Chapina · 18/09/2014 19:58

I felt sick voting.

It isn't 'just' 5-10yrs of difficulty. That will have affected one generation's healthcare, education and employment, which will have known on effects for decades after. And it will completely change our relationship with the rUk who certainly won't view us favourably.

And the UK will plod on. I'm not British, but DP is, the DC are, my first experience of living in the UK was NI and for more than a decade, Scotland has been my home. It is divided on both sides, heavily so, and there is real intimidation from the Yes campaign, which is minimised and laughed off imo. I will be very, very sad if it's a Yes, although will work towards a fair independent Scotland if it comes to it. I'm already sad that half the population sees independence as the only answer.

FindoGask · 18/09/2014 19:59

I felt happy and excited, yes! Fingers crossed, OP.

Fontella · 18/09/2014 20:06

If it's yes Scotland will flounder for a while and then be fine.

What do you think Scotland would use for currency then - monopoly money? Groats? Yen? Do you think the EU will rush through their application so they can join the Euro?

'Flounder' is a bit of an understatement when you've got no currency surely?

TheBogQueen · 18/09/2014 20:10

Maryhill is absolutely jumping according to a friend Grin

FindoGask · 18/09/2014 20:12

Fontella, we won't have no currency - we can use the pound! Why don't people understand this. The Westminster government has said it doesn't want a currency union, which is a promise it may or may not stick to in the event of a Yes vote. But Scotland can use the pound for as long as it wants to - any country could.

SantanaLopez · 18/09/2014 20:14

we can use the pound! Why don't people understand this.

Why don't the yes campaign understand that this is a really bad idea? You don't want to use a currency that you can't control.

Tinkerball · 18/09/2014 20:17

The Bog Queen, I left work earlier in Partick and was amazed at the extra signs that had appeared in the windows of the flats at my end of Dumbarton Road. Plus in the short distance to the Clyde Tunnel numerous cars with flags.

Actually quite confident of a Yes vote now. But if its a No we will just get on with it.

TheBogQueen · 18/09/2014 20:24

Yes there were some lovely young men holding yes placards at Charing across as I walked home. And lots of Yes stickers walking the other way into town.

here is the George Square web cam if anyone's interested

Tinkerbell, you must have gone past my flat!

shadowbox · 18/09/2014 20:32

Westminster must immediately abandon all this nonsense about not allowing Scotland to use the pound. On the right terms, monetary union between Scotland and the rest of the UK is perfectly feasible.

FindoGask · 18/09/2014 20:35

We are not the only country in the world to peg its currency to another. After independence, the republic of Ireland used sterling for many years and then pegged their own pound to it for some more years yet. Plenty of other countries are using the dollar either instead of, or alongside their own countries, without having any of Scotland's resources.

My vote's been cast now. I'm sure you've had this exact argument before, as have I - but I'm happy with how I voted: in good faith, and a clear head. We'll see.

areyoureallysure · 18/09/2014 20:37

tinkerball actually I apologise for my earlier yawn. It wasn't so much the thread itself - as a Welsh person I am watching the potential independence of Scotland with interest. The yawn was more to do with the utter gleeful ignorance with which the OP stated her case in particular wrt interdependence. It ain't gonna happen if the vote is a yes and I'm tired of people telling us how they've voted on something they clearly have a limited understanding of.

I do apologise though. I should have explained that.
