to feel happy and excited about voting YES!

I am just back from the polling booth and can say that I have never felt so positive about voting. The feeling that my vote is actually counting, rather than being swalowed up as is the case with Westminster voting, is also fantastic.

IMO a yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

I wonder where Andy Murray will choose to base his finances in the event of an inde Scotland?

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 16:50

You would hope he would support Scotland wouldn't you? And move there, I mean, actually live there, as he will be playing tennis for Team Scotland.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 16:51

Is it true there no exit polls availiable? Grrrr, we have to wait longer.

SirChenjin · 18/09/2014 16:52

the chance of something better than the fear that it won't work

And there it is again....that old Indy Central claim of fear. An inde Scotland will work, but for all the reasons given it won't work as well at the end of a difficult 5-10 years.

Brightbutchilly · 18/09/2014 16:52

Am I wrong in thinking that David Beckham has played for England while living in other countries?

Brightbutchilly · 18/09/2014 16:53

Why do you want him to move his finances? Think of all the tax he must pay?

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 16:53

Yeah it's slightly different as he wasn't banging the drum for England to go alone whilst in his LA mansion, but I like Andy so not really bothered where he hangs his hat!

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 16:54

True true.

SirChenjin · 18/09/2014 16:55

I don't want him to move his finances Confused - it will be interesting to see where he bases his financial affairs if we get a Yes vote if the rUK is more tax efficient.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 16:55

But this different!! He is living through an historical event. Scotland wants independence because they are 'different from English people' so I would think he would grab the chance to leave Surrey and support the rocky road ahead in the event of a yes vote!! He said ' Let's do it, Scotland!'. Surely he would not live in the land of the oppressors??

KidLorneRoll · 18/09/2014 16:56

@SirChenjin No. Not because of "project fear" or whatever it's called. My own, personal concerns that I'll be worse off, or I'll lose my job, or my friends in Edinburgh might lose their jobs if the banks move.

starshaker · 18/09/2014 16:57

Today I also voted for the first time ever. I feel like my vote will actually matter this time and I care about the outcome.

Brightbutchilly · 18/09/2014 17:01

mrsruffalo I don't know anyone who is voting yes because they are anti-English. Most of us have English friends, colleagues, neighbours and relations.

I've had team
Members visiting from the south this week they all managed to spend the week here without anyone considering them oppressors or being rude to them.

Wanting independence is not the same as hating the English, Welsh or Irish.

I'm sure Andy Murray doesn't feel oppressed living, as he does, in England.

SirChenjin · 18/09/2014 17:03

OK - so your own personal fears of horrendously negative things happening to you and your friends is not enough to sway you from taking a chance on something that might happen after a difficult 5-10 years?

ArcheryAnnie · 18/09/2014 17:08

I've said in public that what was said to Andy Murray (by a single person, an asshole) was outrageous. I haven't seen, in the endless retweets I've seen from yes campaigners on my timeline, any condemnation of all the endless xenophobic and misogynist shit thrown at JK Rowling.

In fact, JKR has pointed out that in the event of a yes vote, and Scotland going down the toilet, she will still be fine, as will the likes of Andy Murray, those lottery winners who bankrolled the yes campaign, and millionaire homophobe and SNP supporter Sir Brian Souter. They'll all be OK. She went with the no campaign because (as she has all along, on so many issues) she cares about people who don't have her millions.

I don't know how many times she got called "cunt" for saying it, but it was quite a lot. I saw no condemnation of this on my timeline, just more fingerwagging from people who allegedly want a fairer, better Scotland.

livingzuid · 18/09/2014 17:08

How did it feel starshaker? This imo is the only benefit out of the whole thing, more engagement. I want to say well done but that sounds unbelievably patronising Grin

KidLorneRoll · 18/09/2014 17:09

Correct. I'm willing to take a chance for a shot at what I perceive as a better future for myself and those who follow.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 17:09

Thank you Bright, that's good to know. Although I didn't actually say people voting yes would do so because they hate the English, I still find your little anecdote touching.

Brightbutchilly · 18/09/2014 17:10

Annie it was terrible and no more representative of the people of Scotland than the person who made that terrible tweet to AM this morning was of English people.

SirChenjin · 18/09/2014 17:11

Yep, I thought as much. That appears to be what the Yes vote is based on - a chance that something might be better based on nothing of substance and to heck with the consequences.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 17:11

Exactly, AA. Shocking.

mrsruffallo · 18/09/2014 17:13

Annie- I think you were right in pointing out it was the amount of abuse that JK got that was shocking the endless nasty name calling.

helensburgh · 18/09/2014 17:13

I get you, however no matter what people have voted I think they should feel the same.

Today we are part of a most exciting time, yes or no.

I'm proud to have been part of this vote. Unless you've voted in this referendum I guess you don't get what I'm on about !

ArcheryAnnie · 18/09/2014 17:14

Except it was a lot of people saying that, Bright, and so many in the yes campaign said nothing, just had their own rants at JKR. The asshole who said that awful thing to Andy Murray was at least a lone asshole, and has been condemned by everyone.
