Can you afford to buy it ? Will it give you pleasure for the few months you need a pram rather than a buggy? What is the resale value like?

you are making me feel better about coveting a £280 buggy

princesscupcakemummyb · 18/09/2014 11:17

if u can afford it go for it my dh would never allow me to spend that sort of money of a pram lol i havent ever paid more then £300 for 1

roadtripper · 18/09/2014 11:19

Tell me what your savings and annul family income is and I'll let you know. Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 18/09/2014 11:20

Get it!

Who cares if it won't fit in your / house / car. I wanted one and had to settle for a Stokke. First world sob.

ChasbutnotDave · 18/09/2014 11:22

If you can afford it YANBU.
I think you can sit children up in them too so it would last longer than the lie flat carrycot stage anyway.

BlueBrightBlue · 18/09/2014 11:25

Get it if you can afford it ( or pinch one from the fairground).
It will last forever.

FelixFelix · 18/09/2014 11:25

I have one!

I have hardly used it. It's beautiful but very hard to steer around normal corners on streets etc. Also you've got no chance getting one in a shop Sad The good thing about the Kensington is that the chassis folds, but the body is very heavy and I struggle to lift it myself. I am a bit of a weakling though.

It looks lovely sat in my front room though. I use it to store toys Blush

I'd get one in a heartbeat, especially if you are going to be walking everywhere. I love traditional prams. I had a 'used' traditional pram for my youngest and it lasted her until she was 2,she happily sat in it wearing the harness part of reins, queen of all she surveyed Smile

Happypenguin2014 · 18/09/2014 11:31

I would buy second hand anyway.

but my god I feel like a twerp. Im even refusing to mention it on fb incase someone "steals my idea" and buys one before me! :(

We OH have a Balmoral and although DS has not been in need for nearly five years its proving hard to part with it. Ours was used until a while ago as a laundry basket Grin

FelixFelix · 18/09/2014 11:35

Penguin mine was from eBay. Keep an eye out for bargains! It was used once outside by the previous owner and looks brand new. Only paid £200!

icanmakeyouicecream · 18/09/2014 11:42

You would look like a dick walking around with it, so for that reason. No.

LadyLuck10 · 18/09/2014 11:47

You really seem too obsessed. Not mentioning on fb in case someone gets it before you? Really.

zukiecat · 18/09/2014 11:47

If you can afford it then get one,

The Kensington and Balmoral prams are beautiful, much nicer than any modern prams, I had a traditional but soft bodied Silver Cross for both DDs, but I yearned for a coach built one,

icanmakeyouicecream That's a bit harsh, Coach built prams are beautiful things!

TexanKenDoll · 18/09/2014 11:51

We have one, also have a Stokke....as soon as DC was big enough changed to their Pop pushchair as the others were just so big! My maternity nurse always said she had more compliments on the Silvercross Kensington than on the baby! Beautiful to look at but not greatly practical would be my advice.

littlepeas · 18/09/2014 11:57

I spent almost that amount on a pram (donkey) - it has had 3 years heavy use and is insanely practical - not sure you'd get the same value for money with the silvercross, but I agree, it is beautiful. Is it safe to use as a bed in the early days? That would be a point in it's favour!

fedupdownhere · 18/09/2014 11:57

I had one for my older children they are a blessing you can get one in it and one on it, loads of shopping on the basket under the pram and baby is lovely and warm in the winter and protected from the cold and rain and in the summer has lots of space to lie down and not squashed up and sweaty as they would be in a buggy and they are a dream to push, baby is comfortable and not bouncing about due to have fantastic suspension. My older children are grown up and have children of there own I don't think the pushchairs and prams are very comfortable nowadays I used mine for 5 babies and still looked brand new

Happypenguin2014 · 18/09/2014 11:58

I look a dick anyway because I dress in vintage clothing anf have vintage hair every day ;)

SaucyJack · 18/09/2014 12:01

YABU. Those prams will be insanely impractical. There must be something else out there that combines function and traditional style.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/09/2014 12:01

Well I think you'd look awesome with one of those prams, then, and I think you should get it!

(And this is coming from a person who thinks expensive stuff for babies is fecking stupid, and hates her friends' $1500 pram.)

icanmakeyouicecream · 18/09/2014 12:03

Oh cringe.... Go ahead then Grin

BeCool · 18/09/2014 12:04

it's super awesome - and looks very similar to the one we had as babies. I was then oldest and I can remember my baby siblings being in it and the hood kind of snapping open & shut - very turgid and purposeful.

I'm very sure ours wasn't in any way as fancy though.

jacks365 · 18/09/2014 12:06

I got lots of compliments on my coach built pram and dd who is nearly 3 still can fit in it. It suits my lifestyle because I shop on foot and nothing comes close for carrying shopping. If I look like a dick I'm in good company as 3 of my friends also use them.

Mine came from ebay for the grand total of 99p and just needed a clean up.

Asteria · 18/09/2014 12:21

My father bought me a Silver Cross Kensington when I had DS (now 12). I loved it! DS was constantly wrapped up and parked in the garden for naps (even in the winter on clear days!) just like I was in as a baby. It is still going strong having done the rounds of countless other family babies and doesn't look tired like many other makes do after over a decade of use.
I love that DS's children might be able to take their afternoon naps in it too! I never prescribed to the Bugaboo thing, I'd much rather have something that will last generations where possible.
You don't say where you live - town or country - but do be aware that although the Kensington detaches (unlike the Balmoral) the frame is hardly fold flat. If you want something to fit in the car regularly then either get a Range Rover or a different pram! For walking into and around town then they are fab - and looking different is a GOOD thing. Only dead fish go with the flow...!

lifelorn · 18/09/2014 12:25

I had a coachbuilt pram for my 5 children, it was stored in the loft for many years. When the dg was born out it came and 2.6 years later it is the only way he will nap in the day - he loves it.
The main problem I see is that 30 years ago I would leave it outside the shop but times have changed and you would need a buggy too.
Don't give up on your dream keep checking for second hand.
