I'd not have said they looked, erm, chavvy. (I'm not keen on the word either but hey ho). I think they're rather beautiful, even if not practical for lots of modern lifestyles.

Can I draw an analogy with Hunter wellies/Barbour jackets? They've acquired cache in circles other than those that which they started out in but are still brilliant products. And do the jobs they were originally designed to do very well indeed.

awfulomission · 20/09/2014 22:16

Sorry long blah sentence in the middle there. You get my point though.

annoyedofnorwich · 20/09/2014 22:18

And yes stealth potato, those are all quite nasty things to say. In fact, saying that sort of thing makes you sound... cheap... or tacky... take your pick!

StealthPotato · 20/09/2014 22:20

Or all of the above? Grin

annoyedofnorwich · 20/09/2014 22:23

Well possibly but I wouldn't like to judge!Grin

StealthPotato · 20/09/2014 22:26

Don't worry. It's mumsnet. You're legally obliged to judge Wink

annoyedofnorwich · 20/09/2014 22:37

Oh ok! I judge anyone who doesn't use a coach built pram then. Impeding their baby's physical development don'tcha know!

StealthPotato · 20/09/2014 22:43

Of course. Explains a) the rapidly increasing popularity of that pram type Hmm and b) the shockingly high number of physically impaired children who have been oh so cruelly subjected to the horrors of other prams.

Grin
annoyedofnorwich · 20/09/2014 22:48

Yep I can tell you're up to date with recent thinking on child development! Grin

getdownshep · 20/09/2014 23:04

God I would love that John Lewis pram, shame dd is 26Grin
Dh says his mum put his sister in the pram, him on the little pram seat and his brother laid on his front in the basket underneath with the shopping!

Bogeyface · 20/09/2014 23:32

I am as far from "chavvy" as you can get. No aspirational angst, blinged up Range Rover or fake tan here! It was just a lovely pram that was comfy for the kids and I could get a weeks worth of shopping in the basket. How is my choice that fits in with my lifestyle and was bought on practical grounds "chavvy", but a designer bugabicandynted bought to impress is not so?

I would go so far as to say that anyone who judges me on my purchasing choices clearly cares far more about "what will everyone think" than I do and therefore they are the "chav" not me. :)

"" used because I dont like the word and wish it know that I am only using it in response to Stealths comments.

Bogeyface · 20/09/2014 23:34

And I am trademarking Bugabicandyntedâ„¢ for future use!

bogeyface and felix snap! Mine is exactly the same as yours.

I'm still laughing at the thought that they could be considered chavvy...maybe the blinged up ones leave a lot to be desired, but how on earth can a traditional coach built pram in navy or British racing green be considered anything other than a classic design? The mind boggles.

The reasons behind me choosing one were

I thought that physically, it was the best thing for my baby
Where I live you can walk for miles pushing a pram
I have local shops in walking distance
I had 18 months maternity leave so knew I'd have plenty opportunities to get out walking with it

Wherediparkmybroom · 21/09/2014 14:09

Chavy??????
Not to everyone's taste but I love mine! Warm, dry and the baby can nap in the garden, what's not to love!
Plus you can carry a sack of spuds under it and a toddler on the top!

squoosh · 21/09/2014 14:15

If I saw someone with this monstrosity I'd definitely ask 'so.....is it a boy or a girl?'

I had one and loved it. DM was going to buy me a brand new one when she saw an advert for one in perfect condition for £100. She was round there so quickly the woman didn't have time to change her mind Grin

It has lasted 3 kids. The baby went in the pram, toddler on the toddler seat and biggest child in the shopping trolly underneath. Fantastic. You'll get so many little old ladies (and men) stopping to admire it.

I'm refusing to get rid of mine. I'm keeping it for the grandchildren.

Bogeyface · 22/09/2014 10:39

Its lovely happy!

This website is great for spares and accessories, if you are not sure what you need then ring them. They were really helpful when my Tenby wheels were falling apart (a common problem apparently), but eBay is good for stuff too, thats where I got my vintage 1960's fringed sun canopy. :)

CariadsDarling · 22/09/2014 12:29

Im 56 now but I can still recall the sheer delight of being put in the pram when I was very little, and also being tucked in down at the bottom end when my sister was a baby.

Fab memories and lovely times.

BomChickaMeowMeow · 22/09/2014 12:40

The only people I've seen with that sort of pram locally are the Romanies and Irish traveller mums.

With big fat gypsy wedding blankets and parasols to go with.
