Totally agree with Marmite. If you go out with one of these and you are not a nanny to a member of a royal family you look a bit of a tit in my opinion.

It's like people who expect their nanny to wear the Norland uniform. Urgh.

It's the kind of thing Russian oligarchs who were dragged up in Gorky Oblast 3 would do.

Bogeyface · 19/09/2014 16:10

And I never had problems in normal town centre shops, although our local corner shop has baskets on the end of each aisle so I couldnt get around that.

Penguin I'm assuming you've already checked eBay, but have you looked on gumtree for your local area? I saw a few on there when I was looking.

HereBeHubbubs · 19/09/2014 17:31

I never had a problem getting my carriage pram in shops or even on lowliner buses, and I had ancient and huge 50s one.

It was a village though, and I didn't drive anyway, so everywhere was accessible with the pram. Where it wasn't I just parked it up and carried baby inside the building. They're also surprisingly good off-road! I'd taken mine across rutted fields to a country show type event.
I suspect the more modern manufactured prams are going to be a lot less robust though - aluminium, plastic and cheap Chinese nuts and bolts no doubt.
Buy vintage. They've lasted this long for a reason.

That was a couple of years ago. My son was still in it aged 3! Since then, carriage pramsuit have suddenly become ridiculously trendy and popular, so I'm really glad I enjoyed being 'the only one in the village' before they become trendy.

It adds half and hour to your journey though with everyone over 40 stopping to say, 'Ooh! I pushed my children round in one of those in the old days!'

I had a 25 year old Silvercross coach pram for DD. Was second hand and great for walking into the town for a pint of milk (lived 4 miles away from the shops)

Was a teenage mum so impossible to be mistaken for posh person

Solid, comfy, tank-like things. Would get one second hand though, they scrub up beautifully, don't spend all that money just to get one new

Viviennemary · 19/09/2014 17:34

Why not. If you love it and can afford it then buy it.

Is this what you're looking for OP?
This one is £50

IamHelenaJustina · 19/09/2014 17:37

I saw a reconditioned one from the 1930s once. The kind of thing the queen swanned around in Grin Drop dead beautiful and practical too as long as you have a huge hallway , garage or other space to keep it in.

CariadsDarling · 19/09/2014 17:39

Go for it. They are absolutely gorgeous and extremely practical.

Tapewormuprising · 19/09/2014 17:42

Do not get this!

I used to watch a woman at the weighing clinic struggling in and out of the door with one and i just used to think 'there is a reason why people don't use these any more!'.

Also they are heinously expensive!

They are very pretty though!

Happypenguin2014 · 19/09/2014 17:44

omg I want that!!!! im not on preloved though :.(

Looks a bit hipster. My mum had a silvercross for us in the 70's/80's before the shop aisles became stupidly crowded. I'd think it impractical nowadays.

Also...fuck me it's expensive!

Wherediparkmybroom · 19/09/2014 17:49

Happy penguin, try e bay and give it a good clean up!

I left both my boys out side shops the oldest is 7, with the dog!

splendide · 19/09/2014 18:10

They're really nice looking and if I saw you pushing it with your hair all in rolls I would think you looked amazing. I wouldn't want to push one round the shops myself though, they're really wide.

Happypenguin2014 · 19/09/2014 18:15

ekkkk taking husband to go and look at a new Kensington tomorrow just to make him fall in love. But definitely going second hand x
