Anewmename that list is often used, but to make a new point about it. You could say much the same, give or take regional variations, about any country. Most countries have assets after all. You could probably do a similar list for North Korea - after all, it has land, fish forestry, wind, water, etc.. More realistically, so do countries like Romania, which is hardly a success story, and Scotland is likely to lose rather a lot of its financial services and construction industry on independence, a bit in a way that those much vaunted coal reserves have gone.

dailygrowl · 18/09/2014 11:50

Chocoluvva, am no politics expert but with regards defence I doubt very much Scotland will have to guard borders on their own. With Scotland next door to England and Northern Ireland, it will be in Westminster and the MoD's interest to forge a close cooperation with Scotland's military. If an aggressor makes it into Scotland, one scoot over to the border, then Berwick and they'll be able to conquer England, so it's unlikely Scotland will be left to fend for itself. The same way the US, China, Russia, etc (for motives good or bad) keep military stations in nearby, strategically located countries.

I am looking forward to the end of uncertainty. I'm sick to the back teeth of yes ug

WildThong · 18/09/2014 11:52

Quite surprised about that Andy Murray tweet, if it's true.
I always had him down as a Unionist, what with GB and all, maybe he thinks independence will be good for his new multi million pound hotel business?

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 18/09/2014 11:52

That's me done. Marking my place to bite my fingers to the bone along with everyone else.

Roll on tomorrow & we'll all be put out of out misery!

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 18/09/2014 11:52

daily I sincerely hope so, but just as one should never underestimate a disgruntled Scotsman, I don't think we should overestimate rUK's goodwill come a Yes vote.

livingzuid · 18/09/2014 11:52

latte Smile it is particularly lovely today. I don't think I could live here again with a little one to think of and a dog that enjoys the outdoors, but I was chatting to a friend over breakfast and we were daydreaming about a move to Brighton. Which I would seriously consider if this goes yes before going back to the Netherlands. Can't go straight back for various reasons.

I'm not sticking around. You make your bed you lie in it. I so agree with the posts about this extreme nationalists stuff. I don't want that for my family. And I am gutted because it was always a dream to move and live in Scotland. It is so absurdly beautiful and until this referendum I thought it was pretty normal Grin

The Horst exhibition is particularly fine. It is real treat to be here. I am sighing over uber glamorous haute couture I could never in a million years wear. It's cheering me up though!

livingzuid · 18/09/2014 11:53

Bah, Murray is a grumpy git anyway, the yes camp can have him!

gruffalosarse · 18/09/2014 11:54

I'm retreating to the sanctuary of MN, Facebook is giving the heeby jeebies.. I'm scared of the outcome of today's vote, which ever way it goes. I've voted NO but this debate has divided my home and I feel so sad about what we have done to this beautiful Island. Yes, there are so many things I wish to change, and hope that we get the opportunity to do that as a united country. I'm feeling close to tears and trying very hard to keep positive. Good luck to everyone.

browneyedgirl86 · 18/09/2014 11:54

Whoops hit send too soon. I'm sick of yes campaigners shoving it down my throat that they are going to win, that if you dare to say no you are scaremongering.

I work for a telecommunications company and a large part of our customers are based down south. Everyone keeps asking what I'm voting and they are all saying they want Scotland to stay so that makes me happy.

IrnBruTheNoo · 18/09/2014 11:55

"Quite surprised about that Andy Murray tweet, if it's true."

I always had him down as going to come out as Yes supporter even if he can't vote in the referendum.

IrnBruTheNoo · 18/09/2014 11:55

I have never said we'll win, but I do hope so. No one can tell at this point until the final count tomorrow morning. It doesn't do either side to be smug, tbh.

Gordon Brown deserves a second watch. Scroll down to video... especially if you didn't hear him first time round.
A 'No' man showing he is a passionate 'No' and Scottish to his very core as well as British.

NeedaDiscoNap · 18/09/2014 11:57

I've just been to vote - polling station was quite quiet, with a couple of Yes and a couple of No campaigners outside who were chatting amiably to each other. They all cooed over the baby, but I whipped her away quickly in case the Yes people started trying to emotionally blackmail me by talking about her future (this has happened before and made me really angry). I've felt ok up until now as I'm hopeful it'll be a no, but I'm starting to really feel anxious now.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 18/09/2014 11:57

I couldn't give a flying f@#$ what any high profile/famous scot/expat has to say. This isn't about following the thinking/reasoning of someone I have nothing in common with, for me.

Too late now anyway, I've done the deed & it's set in ink on my ballot paper. Smile

AnnieHoo · 18/09/2014 11:58

Gordon Browns speech was very powerful. I hope it was well circulated.

EarthWindFire · 18/09/2014 11:58

Too late now anyway, I've done the deed & it's set in ink on my ballot paper.

My thoughts exactly

SapphireMoon · 18/09/2014 11:59

Does that work both ways 'Tension'? Yes or No??

ChelsyHandy · 18/09/2014 11:59

gruffalo I'm retreating to the sanctuary of MN, Facebook is giving the heeby jeebies.. I'm scared of the outcome of today's vote, which ever way it goes.

I know the feeling. I really use Facebook to keep in touch with friends from all over the world, and for the last few months its been filled with certain individuals trying to influence others over which way to vote. Some of it has been really offensive, and there are about 6 on there I would say are absolutely obsessed and have totally lost the plot.

I only haven't deleted them, because I don't believe in stifling democracy, so whatever way the vote goes, I will thankfully delete them after the Referendum.

Theres some really irritating ones. Theres a couple of lassies who quite fancy themselves who take constant selfies and videos of themselves with Yes stickers or talking about how they're voting, in the misapprehension it will persuade people to their viewpoint.

Ericaequites · 18/09/2014 12:03

Vote early and often, as they say in Chicago. I'm not sure the Yes voters have thought all the consequences through.

OneNight · 18/09/2014 12:04

It doesn't do either side to be smug, tbh.

YY to that. There's nothing for anyone to be smug about in this situation I think so I hope that anyone considering having 'Victory' parties tomorrow night for whichever side thinks again. I'm not saying that we should sink into a sea of gloom but whatever the vote outcome there's little ahead for most of us but some very hard work to recover all of this.

Andy Murray offers to fund Scottish Pension Fund

ANDY Murray has backed Scottish independence and offered to pay the country’s state pensions when everything goes to hell.

The Scot, who has not won Wimbledon since 2013, said he was attracted to the ‘Yes’ campaign because they like shouting aggressively whenever something goes wrong.

Murray, who lives near Walton-on-Thames, added: “I make lots of money and I’d be happy to give it all to Scottish pensioners if, for some unknown reason, it doesn’t work out.

“I just have to clear it with my accountant. Let’s do this!”

‘Yes’ follower Emma Robertson said: “I just love Andy’s blind faith, his use of exclamation marks and his massive, crazy promises.

“He’s really getting into the spirit of it.”

ChelsyHandy

I feel exactly the same, some of the "educate yourself' posts have been deeply patronising but I refuse to act on impulse and respond in anger. I'm leaving Facebook until the dust settles.

Can anyone tell me what the SAVVY posts mean? Is that a secret yes club mantra or something?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 18/09/2014 12:06

and another beauty from the Mash

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/09/2014 12:08

Love it fontella. I do wish celebs, especially those who don't stay in Scotland, would stop telling us how to vote tbh. Admittedly more so those who don't live in Britain at all. Yes Brian,. I mean you. And you alan.
