To think the Scottish tourism industry is going to be hugely affected by the referendum, whatever the outcome

Just been reading some of the indyref threads and it made me think about the affect on Scottish tourism, mainly from English tourists,

I know it's only one factor in the grand scheme of things but it seems damned to me whatever the result.

There is such an anti English sentiment at the moment I don't think many English people will be rushing up there for a holiday will they?

Why shouldn't i? I started the thread to gauge opinion on this and it's very clear that those who disagree with me arent potential tourists.

Well said Lego As a Scot travelling to (and also briefly living/working in) England, I had my fair share of "fucking jock" comments and piss-taking of my accent etc. Did I decide therefore that some sort of majority of English people were therefore anti-Scottish? No, I just decided that these people were fucking arseholes and it's fair to say all nations have their share of those.

If people want a holiday they will just book it.

IME Scottish holiday accommodation is really good quality, that is what keeps and will continue to keep people going back, none of the tattiness you get in the West Country where they don't need to try.

This is just another one of those scaremongering threads, what the entire No campaign is built on. Fear, threats and patronising bullying. Independence will not be a tragedy, the Scots won't be as stupid as to let that happen. All parties will get an equal say and there will likely be a lot of coalitions and compromise between the different groups.

The thing they will build on is the great resource which is the well educated Scottish people, both as workers and as community spirited volunteers. Not oil, tourism or forestry although those will help.

The UK constantly undercuts the workforce with cheap labour from abroad. I-scotland won't have to do that.

It actually wouldn't sway my decision to visit anyway. I wouldn't choose to holiday there unless my circumstances changed - it's too cold.

Well I also wouldn't get worked up about a Welsh independent parliament. As it's not about me.

What you repeatedly fail to appreciate daughterdilema is that a person from England choosing to holiday in Scotland is not under the control of those living in Scotland.

Your blind faith that Scoland will be just fine and it doesn't need any English money is astoundingly arrogant and completely wrong.

I have frequently been to Scotland and would go for a weekend again but not a holiday. Just because it wouldn't affect my decision to go doesn't mean I can't see that it might affect others decision.

So Bear you're frothing and getting worked up about tourism in a country you have no wish to visit. You really couldn't make it up grin
