To think the Scottish tourism industry is going to be hugely affected by the referendum, whatever the outcome

Just been reading some of the indyref threads and it made me think about the affect on Scottish tourism, mainly from English tourists,

I know it's only one factor in the grand scheme of things but it seems damned to me whatever the result.

There is such an anti English sentiment at the moment I don't think many English people will be rushing up there for a holiday will they?

To say you have seen or experienced the odd incident, therefore the entire country is racist, actually makes you...racist. If we were a different race. Which we're not.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 22:18

Who said 'give them money?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:18

It's not minimising, just not writing off a whole people because of a few idiots.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:18

Mad eye said 'not sure I want to I give them my money'

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/09/2014 22:19

Really

It is discriminatory not racist. Because Scottish people are the same race as English people. And Welsh people, Northern Irish people, French, Spanish. Different nationalities, same race.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 22:19

I have never said the whole country is racist. BUT I do not understand the belligerent reluctance of some to accept that it exists?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:20

Anyway I am off to bed.

Disgruntled people think about it.

All we are saying are good things really.

TheBogQueen · 17/09/2014 22:20

Well it's just silly people making amounts in out of a molehill.

Loads of english people live and work in Scotland. Loads. And the vast majority of Scots dont seem to be at all bothered by this. Apart from the football.

Likeaninjanow · 17/09/2014 22:20

I think bad behaviour exists. As it does in every single nation.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:21

No belligerent attitudes or non acceptance here as far as I can see.

TheBogQueen · 17/09/2014 22:21

'Amounts in' ??? A mountain is what I meant

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:21

Yes like.

Some scots are dicks.

Many are very lovely. Like everywhere :)

wafflyversatile · 17/09/2014 22:22

We're not denying bigotry against English people in Scotland doesn't exist.

Bigotry is everywhere, including Scotland.

Likeaninjanow · 17/09/2014 22:22

Agreed fanjo!

holdyourown · 17/09/2014 22:22

YANBU fewer english people might visit as they may not feel as welcome (as previously) stands to reason imo.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:22

Off to bed,
.

We don't hate you :)

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/09/2014 22:23

Fanjo, the Barnett formula does that. As does paying into the Scottish Tourism industry, we can choose whether we do that at least. See a lot of people on here seem astounding that English people have an opinion and won't go on like before after the vote. If you want independence, I don't know why this is surprising, upsetting, if you choose to sever links then that includes the good and the bad, I'm afraid.

sleepyhead · 17/09/2014 22:23

God yes, some Scots are absolute fannies.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:23

They are just as welcome because the referendum is not about English vs Scottish.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/09/2014 22:23

Zzz

Likeaninjanow · 17/09/2014 22:24

Do you not go to Ireland either then?

sleepyhead · 17/09/2014 22:24

So are some English people. However, I have never personally met a nasty Welsh or Irish person (although I'm sure they exist).

BookABooSue · 17/09/2014 22:25

To misquote Busted: It's not all about you!

I haven't met a single 'yes' supporter who has mentioned England in their reasons for voting yes - the NHS; Trident; care for the elderly; food banks; tuition fees; commitment to international development - they are all mentioned time and time again. England isn't mentioned at all.

Everyone I know in England understands that this vote isn't about them. How interesting that some people don't appreciate that. However it does make sense of the 'no' campaign focusing on negatives. It seems like some people can only process the referendum as a rejection of the current union rather than a positive acceptance of an alternative.

TheBogQueen · 17/09/2014 22:26

And obviously scots need to be punished. Oh and also the English people who live here. And the other nationalities.

honeyroastedcashews · 17/09/2014 22:26

Totally agree Fanjo - am getting heartily sick of hearing about this supposed broiling anti-English sentiment. I live in Scotland and have seen/heard none. My husband is English, lives up here and has seen/heard none (I even double checked with him yesterday after yet another person (living in England) on Facebook wrote something about "generalised hatred of the English") There's resentment of the Westminster government up here for sure, but of the English people? Nope. To be honest, it's beginning to feel to me that there's far more resentment coming the other way these days...
