Bah, mine is one of the later ones to declare. I dread waking up and seeing what country I will be in. DH as neutral is going to check the news for me and let me know. I can't face it.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 15/09/2014 22:07

also, please can we have our saltire back Hmm

MindReader · 15/09/2014 22:07

Thanks, Santana and Statistically

re the potential timings of results.

I am worried about sending my kids into school whatever the result.
The Head has made her allegiances v v clear.
If it is YES and child says anything (child would be a No) then I can imagine it would be very difficult.
If it is NO then child is likely to get flak simply for having English parents (and speaking like them)

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/09/2014 22:07

Here is a video of Sir Bob. linky

He says something like "to the women of Scotland, you all know when men's dander is up logic and reason fly out the window. It's certainly right to let your harm inform your head when you vote, but don't let emotion, that natural sense of get in the way of your head. Don't vote with your dander basically."

WildThong · 15/09/2014 22:08

Not worthy, WildThong. No one wins on this one
Agreed, however I'm sure we all know somebody who has been OTT and needs to tone it down.

OneNight · 15/09/2014 22:09

I probably have myself!

livingzuid · 15/09/2014 22:10

SlowlorisIncognito I completely agree. It's the part of the world where I am from too Smile

There have been some really thoughtful posts tonight ladies from both sides. I hate the vandalism, it's so contrary to our right to free speech. Thank you for sharing your stories. Going to spend some time with DH before bed who has been feeling neglected!

SantanaLopez · 15/09/2014 22:10

I enjoyed that Morrison article. At first I thought it was a bit extreme, but as he went on I agreed more with him.

The Yes camp have managed to make it seem like criticism of their politics is an attack on the individual’s right to imagine a better self. To do this, the Yes campaign has had to be emptied of almost all actual political content. It has had to become a form of faith.

This seems very true.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 15/09/2014 22:10

MindReader that is awful - the Head should have kept scrupulously silent

livingzuid · 15/09/2014 22:10

Or gentlemen posters Blush

OneNight · 15/09/2014 22:11

I'm unsure what to advise MindReader. Friday will be new territory for all of us whatever the result.

trixymalixy · 15/09/2014 22:12

Are all the schools not off on the 18th and 19th?

SantanaLopez · 15/09/2014 22:13

That is an outrage mindreader. Absolutely shocking.

Agreed, however I'm sure we all know somebody who has been OTT and needs to tone it down.

On a lighter note, I know this guy who has started speaking exclusively in Scots as a political protest... He's from Lenzie Grin

ChelsyHandy · 15/09/2014 22:13

Bit late on London v Scotland in terms of investment, but just wanted to say that the part of Scotland I live in is full of new sports centres, swimming pools and schools.

I have friends who live in South London near Crystal Palace and Streatham, and its certainly not as prosperous nor has nowhere near as good facilities. Finding a swimming pool is quite hard and I ended up at CP which seemed really scruffy and tumbledown compared to my choice of older well maintained pools and brand new ones, which total about 9 within 20 miles back in Scotland.

Admittedly the new ones have been done on ppi partnerships; I'm not too sure how well that works long term or who also benefits...

Fontella · 15/09/2014 22:15

This is a very telling article by Ewan Morrison - why I joined Yes and changed to No

wakeupscotland.wordpress.com/2014/09/15/ewan-morrison-yes-why-i-joined-yes-and-why-i-changed-to-no/

WOW! Shock

Thankyou so much for posting that Mrs McCurly - EVERYONE should read it!

ChelsyHandy · 15/09/2014 22:18

I've avoided the worst of the intolerance on FB, I've only had hate mail by pm from one person and insults from a bunch of men on posts, with the usual invitation to "take it off line" (why they labour under the misapprehension someone would wish to communicate with them further I don't know).

But I am already wary of political intolerance among my fellow Scots - I was assaulted a few years back by a man, who took exception to me speaking my mind.

MrsCurly · 15/09/2014 22:23

I found the article through Carol Craig, who also wrote this brilliant article I linked to a couple of threads back but is worth reposting -

www.scottishreview.net/CarolCraig172.shtml?utm_source=Sign-Up.to&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=8427-325714-How+London+may+try+to+strangle+the+infant+nation+at+birth

MindReader · 15/09/2014 22:23

Our school isn't off that's for sure.
Hopefully I am worrying unnecessarily but I do think the school (Head) should have remained silent about it. It's a primary so they are a bit young to be doing 'mock elections' or really discussing it as a class topic or anything but I think staff members should just keep schtum.

Kids have been going in wearing Yes badges on their uniforms. Hmm

Fontella · 15/09/2014 22:24

also, please can we have our saltire back

No you can't! Imagine how shit the Union Flag will look without it.

(still if you lot bugger off - we'll get the draig (dragon) on there - Centre Stage - slap, dab in the middle!

only kidding ... I want the Saltire staying on that flag!

Indyref 12 - keeping the ball rolling
MindReader · 15/09/2014 22:25

NO badges would be equally wrong, tbf, but it is only Yes that my kids have seen in school.

Still, they will DEFO have them singing Highland Cathedral in assembly on Friday: 'Scotland my country and my land of birth....'.

They sing it for EVERYTHING, even when a staff member retires Confused

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/09/2014 22:27

Really good article MrsMcCurly. Kind of crystallizes something I've been feeling for a while.

Yes voting friend sent DH a link to a Tommy Sheridan rant earlier. DH watched it and basically replied "Thanks for the laugh, I prefer my politicians without perjury convictions" and got ranted at for not watching it and pre judging (even though he had watched it). He then asked the guy how cutting corporation tax would fit with such strident socialism and got "there are different socialist ideologies" as a response. This went on for a while with his views become increasingly disjointed.

It's like some people are voting for the independent Scotland of their dreams rather than one which will ever exist or which is being proposed.

IndridCold · 15/09/2014 22:30

Just wanted to contribute another economic point, which I haven't seen anywhere so it may be crap.

I've been reading a book about Russia (for light relief Confused) and it points out how economies that rely on commodities (oil and gas in this case) are very vulnerable to fluctuations in world prices. A fall in the world oil price can drastically reduce government revenues. Obviously there can also be big booms, but a government has no control over that and it makes planning and budgeting very difficult.

Also regarding renewables which Salmond seems to be pushing. At the moment the growth of that industry is very dependant on the big subsidies. Presumably iScotland will have to pay all the subsidy for Scottish wind turbines themselves (I assume the cost is shared at the moment, but am happy to be corrected on that).

chocoluvva · 15/09/2014 22:35

Many thanks for the links to the Weight Watchers contract links Stat. (both keep crashing - is this suspicious Grin)

BOF - much hilarious so laughing. Thank you very many.

Off to watch some news. Polls?

SantanaLopez · 15/09/2014 22:36

No, I think that's a really good point Indrid. It's really worrying in light of the currency- if the BoE controlled the interest rate, the Scottish government wouldn't be able to react to these fluctuations at all.

chocoluvva · 15/09/2014 22:38

Indrid - The electricity is sold to UK at a very generous price. No reason for UK to be generous were Scotland to separate from UK.
