AIBU to think someone has made a conscious decision to delay Outlander till after the referendum? Watching in the US, and it doesn't (so far) show the English in a very good light. Set not too many years after the Union of Parliaments, it shows brutal behavior towards the Scots. I can see why someone wouldn't want it airing right now.

The programme is being sold to new countries on an almost daily basis so we're not that far behind.

IF it was due to the vote why would that stop them buying it? They could have bought it ages ago and just not shown it.

Sky etc are far more likely to have been waiting for the viewing figures to come in from the US before making a decision.

It's pretty good; some bits are kind of fake but definitely worth watching.

I doubt they're stopping a cheesy Starz TV series from airing in fear it may influence voters.

honestly, if voters are persuaded by a TV show like that, do you really want them part of your country anyway?

Bulbasaur you're totally right it's an insult to suggest we could be influenced by a show which would be seen by such a small percentage of the country. Besides we all know our history. If anyone was influenced by it they should have their vote taken off them

I am absolutely loving it, but I also loved the books. Mostly accurate historically, and beautiful to watch (and I dont just mean Jamie!)

It's above average for accuracy. Some of the clothing has gone for glamour rather than historical fact but overall I'm looking forward to watching it. The books were a good read.

I'm really enjoying it. I won't see last nights episode til Tues but I've heard it's excellent. BJR focuses largely in it. A lot of massive praise on FB for Tobias Menzies portrayal.

I am just watching it now. I go from loving Frank to hating BJR, while they obviously look the same.

I apologize; I didn't mean to be insulting at all. I'm a Scot myself, living in the US and it made me think about how the Union got started and the things that happened after that. So I wondered if it had been thought prudent to delay it. You're quite right of course, very few would see it and even fewer be influenced.

The production values are very high and the acting is excellent throughout. And the photography shows off the beauty of Scotland like no other film production I have seen. I hope people in Scotland get to see it at some point.

It is surprisingly historically accurate for the most part. They could perhaps make it a bit clearer that the Jacobite rebellion was not Scotland against England, but the Jacobites against the government.

The costuming is glammed up somewhat but not a lot. There is often pressure on costume designers to modernize costumes in period dramas, especially for the women (Tudors was very guilty of this), but in Outlander, it is more that Claire always looks well-turned out, despite somewhat harrowing conditions.

I like the fact that they have so many Scottish actors; the accents are authentic. Agree that the scenery is wonderful, and the costumes good. (I'm a knitter, and love all the use of knitted fabrics!)

Got to admit, the wool felting scene was a bit silly - I know that's how it used to be done but there was something fake about those clean healthy cheerful women singing in harmony - can't help thinking the reality would have been a bit less organized and happy!

Story is great though & I look forward to watching the rest.

How accurate were the costumes in The Tudors then? I don't know very much about medieval costume

The costumes in the Tudors were, to my eye, very modernized for the women, but in odd ways. For example, at one point Anne Boleyn wore a sleeveless dress. None of the headdresses were authentic; in fact, many of the women wore no headdresses at all, which is all wrong. Some of the women, especially the ladies-in-waiting when dressed alike, looked as though they were bridesmaids who had time traveled back from some over-the-top 1980s wedding.

I, too, love the knitwear in Outlander. I lust after that cowl scarf thing Clair wears, although as I live in Florida, I don't have much use for it. All of the knitwear was hand knitted in Scotland. The costume designer had shout outs on social media looking for knitters.

I think the cowl is great too! I've found a pattern & will have a go.

I might have to learn, kindler! My best friend is an accomplished knitter and she has offered to teach me.
