AIBU to think someone has made a conscious decision to delay Outlander till after the referendum? Watching in the US, and it doesn't (so far) show the English in a very good light. Set not too many years after the Union of Parliaments, it shows brutal behavior towards the Scots. I can see why someone wouldn't want it airing right now.

I've been naughty and downloaded a few episodes of this as my friend from college plays Rupert. So far I really like it. Despite being a firmly 'yes' expat (so I don't have a vote anyway) Scot I doubt its delay is due to politics.

CoreyTrevorLahey · 14/09/2014 17:17

Every time my DH sees anything related to it, he shouts 'Outlandaaah!!' like Malachi in Children of the Corn.

Same with that bloody Mitsubishi car as well! Grin

I think the cowl looks easy, Scone; thick wool, big needles and just knit stitch. Might be a bit warm for Florida though!

Also, I'm persuaded re. the politics - you're right that there's no connection. Just idle speculation on my part really because of how the show made me feel.

This is a bit of a yes, no and maybe. There are rules governing what can and can't be shown in the run up to an election. This is why programmes like 'Have I got news for you' disappear as soon as elections are announced. I can therefore see how UK broadcasters would not be able to show it on light of the Scottish referendum as a series portraying the lead up to the '45 rebellion could be seen as inflammatory. However I would have expected a channel to announce that they had bought it to broadcast in the future.

I think the broadcasters may be either waiting until the referendum is over, or and I think it is more likely that they will want to show all 16 episodes as a complete run, rather than show it in two blocks with a gap in the middle, and therefore we will see it as a complete series sometime next year.

Bonazoid Grant O'Rourke is great as Rupert. Smile

That's interesting, Sunnymeg - not saying it happened with Outlander, but it does happen sometimes.

Ok. I gave the first episode a go... Dear god it's boring, they rely too much on narration, and the main character is basically useless. She just sort of drifts along helplessly with the plot.

It's not the worst thing I've seen, but it's not the next Breaking Bad either.

Redglitter · 16/09/2014 00:55

IF it was to do with the referendum - and I don't for a second think it is - why on earth would that stop a channel buying it. They could have bought it months ago and not shown it

if anyone is stupid enough to be influenced by a TV show seen by a small percentage of the country then they should have their vote taken off them

Redglitter · 16/09/2014 00:56

Bulbasaur stick with it Smile

steff13 · 16/09/2014 01:13

We don't watch it live, my husband downloads it because we don't have cable. He told me we have a new episode today, I guess it aired last night?

I love the knitwear, too! I just added a "Claire's Shawl" pattern to my knitting library on Ravelry.

It's being filmed in our village at the moment.

Oooh, if you see the guy who plays Jamie, snatch him and send him to me. I'll totally reimburse you for shipping. ;)

wobblyweebles · 16/09/2014 23:13

It's working on findtv dot net if anyone's looking for it.

I know his mummy. I doubt she'd want him posted though.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 16/09/2014 23:50

She must be bursting with pride, babyboomersrock. Smile He is a very fine actor, and in his interviews comes across as a really nice guy.

babyboomersrock · 17/09/2014 00:14

Don't want to say too much but his mother is a lovely woman who overcame some tough setbacks to bring her children up. She's the reason he is a down to earth lad - though the artistic talent runs through their family in one way or another.

Redglitter · 17/09/2014 00:18

What does she make of his slightly more scary fans lol

Bulbasaur · 17/09/2014 03:05

Bulbasaur stick with it

I tried. My adhd got the best of me. It's a lost cause now. Grin

I was just expecting more of an action series like Walking Dead or something, and this is a drama with a time traveling backdrop.

Outlanderfan · 17/09/2014 09:51

There are various Facebook groups that have sprung up eg Outlandish UK that are providing information about this series. Heard that BBC Canada may have picked it up. Still no news in the UK though!

Just to resurrect an almost zombie thread.

This keeps coming up on my Amazon prime account saying it's available from the 26th March. Been waiting to watch it for a while.
